making a difference From June 2014 to July 2015, Sustain STEPSÂŽ for Health Visitors facilitators have delivered 62 internal courses to 661 delegates. By the end of 2015 more than 1000 delegates, 8% of the national Health Visiting population will have attended this course. 98.6% of delegates agreed the course would improve their performance in the seven core outcomes.

It is designed to be delivered in-house by accredited internal facilitators who will benefit from annual development and course updates. Sustain STEPS® to Excellence guarantees a robust quality assurance process through course evaluation and external audit.

The Sustain to Excellence Programme The complete Sustain STEPS® to Excellence programme is comprised of five linked components that equips your organisation with the expertise to deliver and continuously improve the three-day client course for their staff. The five elements are as follows:

The Sustain STEPS® to Excellence quality assurance programme Quality assurance processes are embedded to guarantee each organisation continues to benefit from the programme with excellent return on their investment. This includes monitoring course evaluation feedback and onsite quality appraisals The Sustain STEPS® client course An engaging and interactive three-day personal effectiveness course for staff at all levels which forms the basis of the Sustain STEPS® programme The Sustain STEPS® facilitator course A four-day course which gives individuals the expertise and knowledge to deliver the internal course to colleagues. Potential facilitators must complete the client course before seeking accreditation via this course

creating positive change The Sustain STEPS® facilitator support day This unique element provides each facilitator with one day of support from a Sustain facilitator as they deliver their first Sustain STEPS® internal course The Sustain STEPS® continuous development process A comprehensive continuous process is in place to ensure the content is updated to reflect the changing needs of the individual profession giving the Sustain STEPS® facilitators access to the latest knowledge and tools required to successfully deliver the course

East of England success story supports best practice MARCH 2013

The first Sustain STEPS® course is adapted for Health Visiting. East Coast Community Healthcare is the first service to pilot this unique programme

Four internal facilitators are trained and successfully complete the task of rolling out the course to 100 members of ECCH’s Health Visiting teams

Health Education East of England provide funding for any Health Visiting service committed to implement the Sustain STEPS® to Excellence Programme

34 facilitators from seven Health Visiting services across the East of England were trained to deliver the Sustain STEPS® courses internally

A total of 10 out of 13 services in the East of England have subsequently enrolled

The programme is now available for School Nurses, Children’s Centre Staff, Health Care Assistants

Developments are in progress for CAMHS, Adult Mental Health Nursing
