UVD Robot was developed in 2016 by Blue Ocean Robotics with the objective of global commercializing robotic based UVC Disinfection Robot for Hospitals. The incorporation of the company followed a Private Public Innovation project starting in 2014, where Blue Ocean Robotics and Odense University Hospital OUH in partnership with other hospitals in Denmark, developed the first prototype of the UV Disinfection Robot, with the objective of preventing Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI’s) for the benefit of patients, hospital staff and associated healthcare costs.
The UVD Robot is used as part of the regular cleaning cycle, and aims at preventing and reducing the spread of infectious diseases, virus, bacteria, and other types of harmful organic microorganisms in the environment by breaking down their DNA-structure. The robot is safe, reliable and eliminates human error. Furthermore, it is user friendly and is designed to be operated by every-day cleaning staff. There are mainly three types of UV rays A, B and C. UV-C which consists of a more energetic and shorter wavelength of light is particularly effective at destroying genetic material whether viral particles or in humans. This type of UVC is filtered out by ozone in the atmosphere long before it reaches us. On discovering the use of UVC to kill microorganisms resulted in artificially produced UVC to be used in hospitals as a form of disinfectant.
The UVD robot uses UVC light of wavelength 254NM and has 360 degree coverage with a Wi-Fi based connectivity. UVC tubes used in the robot are Ozone free. It has software and sensor based safety system with an emergency stop button. It is a fully Autonomous Disinfection Robot for Hosp itals and corporate offices. This technology coupled with proprietary disinfection tracking software, makes the UV-D Robot a supreme disinfection technology for these applications. The UVD Robot is capable of destroying bacteria, fungi and spores with a minimum log 3 reduction and up to a log 7 reduction (99.9999%) with as little as 5 minutes exposure time
The UV-D Robot was the proud recipient of a top international award in 2019, namely the IERA Award. The IERA Award is one of the world's most prestigious awards in robotics. It honors the collaboration between science and industry in the production of robots and is awarded by the International Federation of Robotics, IFR, and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (IEEE/RAS), which is the world's largest professional tech organization with 420,000 members in 160 countries. The UVD Robots can work in both small and larger rooms within hospitals and can also deployed in Airports, shopping Centre’s, places of work and hotels.
