The staircase is very well lit and the small space by the window was client’s favorite corner since the very beginning. To make this space accessible a narrow passage was created without compromising the headroom below. The Jaisalmer stone flooring, metal and wood railing binds the entire staircase space together making it the most striking feature in this home. The foliage of the trees outside the windows, ambient sunlight and ventilation gives a feel of an extended garden, making this reading corner the most sought after space.

The geometric pattern tiles inspired from old temples separates the mandir space from the rest of the staircase. This space features a beautiful red sandalwood mandir, cherry wood laminate ceiling and brass accessories which accentuates the palette. The partition with laser cut motifs and brass bells creates a visual barrier between the mandir and laundry space next to it. Opposite the mandir there is a small extended seating space which can accommodate 4-6 persons during some puja/bhajan.

Son’s bedroom 2 is dressed in wooden tile flooring, tan leather headboard and grey wainscoting which forms a perfect backdrop to the orange tv console. Metal balusters of the old staircase railing has been reused as the legs of the console.

The master bedroom features a bed back frame which has been added to achieve the look of a two poster bed. The peacock green painted wall and plum upholstery adds a good contrast to the muted palette of grey, beige and wood. The space opens up to a terrace with extensive greenery outside, that offers a great sense of interaction with nature. Built-in granite seating, patterned tiles and rigato finish wall cladding makes the terrace a perfect cozy spot for the entire family to relax.

SEN RESIDENCE
There are lots of constraints while designing your own home on a very limited budget. Reusing old furnitures plays a very crucial role here. The yellow painted tv unit has been made using the materials of an existing cabinet. By simply painting and adding a leather cushion, an old metal trunk was converted to a beautiful seating for the balcony. The dining table and chairs were painted in shades of yellow and blue to give a fresh look. Both the bedrooms were revamped by simply painting the existing furnitures and adding some new upholstery.

MUKHOPADHYAY HOUSE
The gorgeous black entry door of this 820 sq ft apartment is inspired from old Victorian arched doors. To achieve this look, the external frame has been projected out with a corbelled molding that continues as an arch at the top. The dummy metal grill with the mirror panelling inside the arch has been added to give an illusion of a window. The horizontal panelled cement fiber board with artificial plants and accessories brings in lot of character to the boring entrance lobby. The main entry does not open into the living area directly, instead there is a small passage which was indeed a blessing. This space has been converted to a beautiful waiting area with a leather upholstered metal chair and cluster of frames on the adjacent wall for displaying family pictures/artwork.

The open plan accommodates the living area, dining and kitchen that opens up to a small landscaped terrace with a mandir. The slatted wall panel continues from the waiting area till the kitchen window, and from the tv unit till the terrace, on the opposite side. These panels seamlessly conceals the two bedroom doors within the grooves.

The mandir shutters have been panelled with bevelled mirrors that reflects the greenery and landscape outside, creating a significant impact on the overall feel of the space.

The client wanted to transform this 645 sq.ft 2bhk to a lavish 1bhk apartment. Being a very small house, optimization of space was top priority.

The entrance lobby is very narrow, with an adjacent apartment door just next to the entry. To make space for an additional shoe cabinet, the dining area wall has been taken down. The entry door features wooden slats with a metal grill and the adjacent wall is cladded with techlam slim tiles. The living room is extremely small, due to this reason one of the wall has been panelled with mirror that doubles up the space making it look much bigger.
A wood tile flooring laid in herring bone pattern has been used throughout the living room, kitchen and den area. Different shades of green used in the living area and the kitchen gives the space a very soothing feel. There is a built-in cabinet in the dining which has multiple usage. It has a small serving counter, storage for crockeries and other miscellaneous items, encloses a rainwater pipe and also serves as an additional shoe storage. The custom made dining table with metal legs and marble fits perfectly in the space. Legs of the chairs has been painted red, which adds a dash of color to the space.

The yellow overhead cabinets in the kitchen gives a good contrast to the green tile and black countertop. The space opens up to a balcony which houses the laundry and janitor storage.

The bold tropical print wallpaper, offers not just a refreshing contrast against the black and white striped floor but also brings in lot of drama to the space. DUTTA RESIDENCE
The interiors of this bedroom has been designed, such that it blends with the existing wooden tile flooring. Due to very less natural light, the walls have been kept bare white to make the space look bright. French moulding panels aesthetically breaks the monotony of these plain walls with a classic touch. The bold emerald green headboard with the warm greys sets up the mood for the space.
