Handi Quilter 2 Day Education Event & Sale August 28-29, 2015 Handi Quilter Educator Vicki Kerkvliet from Kansas City, KS Vicki Kerkvliet comes from a long line of quilters, and began herown quilting journey in 2000 when she enrolled in a class. As an elementary school teacher, she set the goal of piecing one quilt top a year in between her teaching responsibilities. Vicki's dream of owning a longarm machine was realized in 2011 with the purchase of an HQ18 Avanté® with HQ Pro-Stitcher®, and she recently acquired an HQ Sweet Sixteen®. After 27 years in the elementary education profession, she joined the Handi Quilter education team and is thrilled to merge her love of teaching with her love of quilting in a new career path. Vicki is a member of the Starlight Quilters Guild in Kansas City and hopes to enter quilts into a local quilt show this year. Vicki has two adult sons and enjoys traveling with her husband and granddaughter each summer to explore national park

Learn how to draw and stitch feathers by several different paths, add fills and adjust feathers to a variety of geometric spaces. Saturday, August 29 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Quilting Circles and Curves Learn the tricks for making half circles and flattened circles, as well as making perfectly curved lines. Crea beautiful quilting designs using swags, clam shells, ovals, arc and half circles. Then discover endless ideas for filling internal and external spaces with additional designs. 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Exploding Out the Block: Extending Designs Explore a basic design element from fabric within a block, to the sashing and borders by extending the lines and embellishing with a wide variet of textures and fills.
