Preventing and Reversing
CANCER with seaweeds and mushrooms BROWN SEAWEEDS Traditional Usage
Brown Seaweeds and Mushrooms
While seaweeds have been a staple food in Asian countries for thousands of years, brown seaweeds have only been the focus of research for the past decade. Fucoidan, in particular, has received the most attention.
Recent Research Seaweeds are used to treat swollen lymph glands, goiters, cough, some lung abscessed, edema, as well as fibroid tumors, lumps, and certain types of cancer. Seaweed has long been thought to regulate toxins in the body, absorbing any substances that are potentially harmful to the body. These traditional uses are also being verified in modern Asian labs and universities. For example, in 1985, Dr. Yamamoto and colleagues took a recipe from traditional Chinese medicine using a hot water extract of brown seaweed powder and found that it inhibited cancer cell 1 growth in rats up to 95%.
Lung Cancer and Fucoidan More recently, fucoidan has been shown to have antitumor and anti-carcinogenic effects. Fucoidan's therapeutic properties may come from its ability to act as natural killer cells and regulate substances involved in cell growth. Research published in the March 2011 issue of Phytotherapy Research suggests that fucoidan stopped some lung cancer cells from proliferating and triggered the programmed death of cancer cells. A study published in the October 2011 issue of International Journal of Biological Macromolecules also found that fucoidan killed lung cancer cells. Additionally, it improved the activity of white blood 2 cells, the natural killer cells.
Research and additional well-documented evidence has showed that certain elements in seaweed, like Fucoidan, have:
Anti-tumor activity Anti-mutagenic activity Anti-carcinogenic activity Apoptotic properties (cell selfdestruction) Angiogenesis inhibition Immune enhancement properties Gastrointestinal protection

MUSHROOMS Shiitake – Alpha-glucan AHCC® Agaricus blazei Murill – Beta-glucan Long-chain polysaccharides, particularly alpha- and betaglucan molecules, are primarily responsible for the mushrooms’ beneficial effect on your immune system. In one study, adding one or two servings of dried shiitake mushrooms was found to have a beneficial, modulating effect on immune system function.

For instance:
In a Japanese animal study, mice suffering from sarcoma were given shiitake mushroom extract. Six of 10 mice had complete tumor regression, and with slightly higher concentrations all 10 mice showed complete tumor regression.
2
In Japan, the top two forms of alternative medicine used by cancer patients are a mushroom called Agaricus subrufescens (aka Agaricus blazei and Agaricus brasiliensis) and shiitake mushroom extract.
