St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria appoints new State President Following an election by the State Council, Tony Tome has been appointed as the new State President of the St Vincent de Paul Society in Victoria. Tony has been involved with the Society since 2000 when he joined the Donvale Conference. The following year Tony became the Ringwood Regional President and progressed in 2004 to Eastern Central Council President. He is currently Chair of both the Vinnies Centres State Board of Management and the Fundraising, PR and Marketing Committee. Until this appointment as State President, Tony was Deputy State President for four years. In addition to these roles, he has also been a member of the Finance Committee since 2001 and involved in the Society’s contribution to World Youth Day in 2008 and a member of the bushfires taskforce. Tony’s vision includes developing a closer relationship between the two arms of the organisation – the St Vincent de Paul Society and St Vincent de Paul Aged Care & Community Services, as well as continuing to develop a model of governance that is effective in achieving good outcomes that align with the mission and values of the Society. He has identified key issues and opportunities in Vinnies Centres, governance, membership, youth, finance, fundraising and PR, mental health, social justice and technology to embrace in this new role of State President. “It’s the responsibility of the State Council to develop and monitor the changes necessary to take the Society forward. No work is foreign to the Society” he said. St Vincent de Paul Society CEO Brian Dalton welcomed the result, saying “I look forward to working with Tony to fulfil his vision for the Society. This is a critical time for the Society, when we face unprecedented demand on our services. I’ve known Tony for many years and we’ve worked closely during his tenure as Deputy State President. He will be a great leader for the organisation.” The St Vincent de Paul Society is governed by a State Council of which eight are elected and up to seven appointed, representing the members and volunteers and overseeing the direction and strategic guidance of St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria Inc made up of conferences, Vinnies Centres and its subsidiary company St Vincent de Paul Aged Care & Community Services.
