31st August, 2009 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CEO’S ROUGH IT FOR HOMELESS FUNDRAISER The St Vincent de Paul Society in South Australia will hold its first CEO Sleepout in Adelaide in June 2010, in conjunction with a similar event in all other states. More than 80 Chief Executives and Company Directors will sleep out in Adelaide overnight to raise money for the homeless. The group includes at this stage the cream of Adelaide’s business community ranging from CEO’s of our local Radio & TV Stations and long time supporters of Vinnies in South Australia such as businessman Michael Vaughn (Adelaide Central Plaza) Phil Rundle (CB Richard Ellis) and The Advertiser. The event aims to challenge participating high profile CEO’s and opinion formers to sleep out for a night and experience homelessness first hand. The sleepout means braving the cold on cardboard mats in order to raise awareness and money in support of Vinnies homeless services. More than 100,000 Australians are homeless and the number is expected to increase. Recent research has stated that South Australia had 53 homeless people per 10,000 of the population (7,962). (RMIT University). The onset of cold winter nights can make life very uncomfortable without a roof over your head or a bed to sleep in. For some this is a day to day reality and the St Vincent de Paul Society hopes this event will help alleviate the suffering of those who are marginalized in our society. As we finally put this cold Winter behind us, now is the time to think about next Winter and how we can help those still affected by homelessness by committing to next June’s CEO Sleepout. The event will be timed to run throughout Australia on the same evening in June 2010. More details on the actual event will be rolled out in the next few months on our website www.vinnies.org.au St Vincent de Paul will be launching the CEO Sleep Out event at Parliament House on October 20th 2009 – invites will be sent out shortly.
