MEDIA RELEASE 6 May 2010
COMMUNITY RESPONDS TO VINNIES PLEA In response to a recent article printed in the Kalamunda Reporter, the Vinnies Retail Centre in Midland now has another six keen volunteers on the books, much to the delight of existing volunteers.
The Centre located on Great Eastern Highway is a very busy shop, attracting many customers but recent bouts of illness and other personal reasons meant volunteers were struggling to keep the shop open on certain days.
The addition of six new volunteers means shifts can be distributed more evenly amongst those who already generously give their time in kind.
New volunteer Cathy Goodwin said she recently moved to Perth and wanted to help out any way she could. Cathy used to volunteer at a Vinnies Retail Centre in Victoria.
“I was going to come into the Midland shop and put my hand up to volunteer, but the article in the local paper made me do it right now,” Cathy said.
Cathy said she volunteers because she likes to help out in the community and feel useful.
Another new volunteer said she was interested in gaining experience and had already met some very lovely ladies at the Centre.
The St Vincent de Paul Society can’t commend highly enough the time and effort of volunteers for their dedication, enthusiasm and hard work. They are an essential part of the Society being able to deliver essential services to those in need and the wider community.
