Vinnies Centre celebrates one year of service to the Dandenong community. Volunteers, staff and customers of Dandenong’s Vinnies Centre will celebrate tomorrow, marking one year of service to the local community. The Centre provides furniture, clothing and household goods to families and people who are in need and are being assisted by local trained volunteers, known as conference members. In the first year of operation, the Centre has provided $28,790 worth of items across the greater Dandenong area. Centre Manager Ray Oliver said “It’s an exciting milestone for us that seems to have come around very quickly! We’ve been so pleased with the support we’ve had from the community, including donors, customers and volunteers. “Over the course of the year we’ve grown into a great team behind the scenes too. Our volunteers come for all different reasons but what they share in common is the desire to be part of their community and contribute to it. There’s a real family atmosphere here, which is great.” The Centre is in need of additional volunteers to assist with the great range of work required to operate six days a week. “We’d love to hear from people who can spare some time to help us out. And you just might make some great new friends along the way” said Oliver. The Centre is located at 119-123 Lonsdale Street, Dandenong and is open 9am– 5pm Monday to Saturday.
