Retail Admin Assistant (Volunteer Position)

State Council Offices, 2C West Street, Lewisham

Primary position objective

To provide admin assistance to the Retail Manager. This will include general admin tasks such as filling, processing data, conducting online research with a focus on op shop trails, handling telephone complaints flowing from retail division, handling issues related to stock take in the supply Centre among others. Specific training will be provided, however successful volunteer will need to meet the essential criteria listed below.

This is a voluntary position. The successful volunteer will benefit from acquiring further retail knowledge and making a difference in community services. Part - time, 2 days a week (Flexible), minimum 12 hours a week commitment. Three (3) months The preferred candidate will be required to complete a Volunteer Application Form and sign a Good Character Declaration Form. Two (2) referees will also be required for this role.

Volunteer Retail Admin Assistant – 2010

Departmental Overview Retail Department is a support and resource team that encourages the development of professional and appropriate practices in the Society’s Centres State wide. The Retail Manager is based at the State Office, Lewisham and is responsible for administration and efficient functioning of all NSW retail centres. The role of volunteer Admin Assistant is fundamental to efficient functioning of this department as it will involve research and documentation of market trends, handling customer complaints over the phone and other admin duties as directed by the Retail Manager. The successful volunteer will be knowledgeable in retail including having an interest in charity centres, skilled or capable of conducting research, and record keeping. The role is office based, working in our new State Office facility, in a large open plan environment with close proximity to other departments of the Society.

Filling - This will involve changing files from an old filing system to a new one recently introduced (training will be provided). Handling Customer complaints over the phone. Conducting and clearly documenting online research outcomes. Other adhoc admin duties as directed by the Retail Manager.

Essential Criteria • • • • • • •

Knowledge of retail and in particular familiarity with charity shops operations in NSW. A high level of computer literacy with intermediate to advance skills in, MS Word, Excel and Outlook. High level on-line research skills including ability to document research outcome. Excellent communication skills including ability to provide excellent customer service and solve problems. Excellent record keeping skills particularly manual and electronic filing. A friendly, flexible and proactive approach with a willingness and ability to see tasks through to completion. Willingness to work within the ethos and vision of the St Vincent de Paul Society.

Desired Skills •

Previous experience in retail, administration or customer service.
