Position objective:

Assist students that are disadvantaged or at risk of being disadvantaged acquire skills that will become a foundation for their future learning.
How it Works:
•
Study buddies sit with learners and assist them to follow instructions from the course facilitator.
•
Assisting disadvantaged people (18yrs and older, men and women) within a social justice context that supports learning as a pathway to independence while respecting the rights of clients including confidentiality. Building self esteem, courage, confidence, and a sense of commitment and belonging.

Key areas of responsibility: Supervisor:
Good computer skills Patience with learners who may have higher learning needs (e.g. resulting from previous addiction to drugs, poor education experiences in primary and secondary school) An understanding of disadvantage prevalence among our learners (e.g. ill health, unstable family lives due to frequent relocation, poor models, etc). A “can do” attitude that will drive your commitment to continue in the role when challenging behaviour occurs; an ability to see setbacks as short term and ‘human’. Where possible and relevant, an ability to build a professional mentoring relationship with your assigned learner

Train basic computing to disadvantaged students or those at risk of becoming disadvantaged.

Centre Manager Wednesdays 1.00-4.00pm; Thursday 9.00-1.00pm Commence as soon as possible
