THE MEETING PLACE FOR EVERYONE WHO PLANS TO BUILD OR IS ALREADY BUILDING TOMORROW’S HOUSING AND CITIES The city is often called ‘mankind’s most important invention’. And nowadays, cities are being discussed more than ever. The growth in urbanisation proceeds apace and there is no indication that it is slowing down. Why is this? How, in fact, do we plan our cities? Do we plan too much or too little? How do we create well-being? Why do some places thrive while others are reduced to ghost towns? And what part does the architecture – the actual buildings and the spaces in between them – play in the matter? Only 15 years ago, the removal vans were heading for the spreading residential areas. Today, the flow has reversed. And the cities are growing; the majority of the world's population now lives in urban areas. Will there be room for everyone? The Nordic Architecture Fair is the Nordic region’s face-to-face meeting place where these issues will be discussed.

• New suppliers that can help them make the transition to the architecture and urban planning of the future.
AREAS OF FOCUS 1.ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN PLANNING Buildings constructed today will provide space for living and working for decades to come. The need for more housing and increased urbanisation requires intelligent solutions that quickly be put into practice. At the same time, higher demands are being made for climate-smart solutions. Demand for housing is rising considerably faster than supply, especially in city centres. How can we meet this demand in ways that focus on people?
2. DIGITAL BUILDING In the future, digital building technology will be included in architectural standards. Computer-aided manufacturing will open up enormous economic potential in areas from design and construction site logistics to construction processes and recycling.
3. INNOVATIVE MATERIALS Energy-optimised, sustainable, recyclable: Today’s façades, floors, and doors etc. are innovative systems with many functions that must meet increasingly complex demands. The technological advances are both multifaceted and exciting – and pose a challenge for architects, planners and building material manufacturers.
4. SMART BUILDINGS Energy savings, higher safety and greater convenience: Digital building technology and network connection allow optimisation of aspects of buildings that was previously inconceivable. It will be possible to install smart digital technology not only in individual buildings but also in groups of buildings and even entire urban districts.

”An architecture and community building fair can help different players in the construction industry to engage in dialogue that does not focus on the needs of a specific building project but on setting a framework for future urban life and living environments. It gives us an opportunity to stop and reflect on where we are headed.”
“We’re faced with an environmental challenge that is a major influence on our profession. And it’s a challenge that architects, especially those in the Nordic countries, have to accept. The consequences of each and every project must be looked at and evaluated. The Nordic Architecture Fair can help to bring this about.”
