WHAT IS NEW IN DNS? DNS 2013 started their DNS education on 1st September. They were welcomed in an euphoric atmosphere and got songs, speeches and presents from all in Tvind. Page 7 - 8

When you jump to the drivers´ seat for the first time for sure you notice how different is from a car: a lot of buttons and levers; you notice how far you have to go with your arm by using the gear, and do it while you are driving implies a lot of attention in your movements.

Julius Just started. Number 12 in the DNS-2014-Team. Julius write: "Twenty three years ago I was brought up on this lovely planet earth. I barely remember anything significant from my childhood or early adolescence. But I must admit that it took me quite a long time to become a mature person. I was not a problematic child or had any serious behavior issues, I was just an irresponsible, light-headed young fellow. Luckily I was raised by my grandparents which were and still are intelligent, strict but right, with a conservative attitude. They forced me to get a proper education and to think about my career. Nothing unusual. I was not a rebellion. I submitted their authority and got myself into a boring business study. It was a mistake. I was not satisfied with the study program itself as well as the whole education system in Lithuania. Sir Ken Robinson had once told that "Human intelligence is richer and more dynamic than we have been led to believe by formal academic education", so I wanted to explore this dynamic of my mind and enrich my intelligence with alteration in my studies at first. I needed to find a right place to do that. I was irritated by mainstreamers, noneducated greedy people who prefer a silly lifestyle with alcohol and wasted time. I was a part of this kind of environment and I needed to escape. It took me more than a year to find an option, - DNS. I wasted my holy time and could not let that happen again. So I quit my business studies immediately. And decided to move to Denmark. From what I have seen so far, my interest in becoming a DNS student had only expanded. Even I am here only few days and I feel a bit lonely and somehow a bit shy
(usually I am never shy). I strongly believe that this is the place I belong to. I know that there will be many difficulties, challenges and obstacles. But with a passion and enthusiasm everything is possible. I am feeling ambitious and excited. I am ready to go through! I have many expectations from my future in DNS. I want to become a pedagogue, I want my mind to be trained for a proper thinking. A correct way of thinking. I want to explore knowledge in as many things as possible. I´m ready to learn Danish and other important languages. My first future challenge will be saving up job. I´m looking forward to that! I really think that after a hard hard time, DNS will award me with a specific set of skills and I will become well-equipped teacher who is going to be able to help others from all his heart."

Mette from 2nd Year back from 6 months in England Coming back from the awesome “European Field of Practice” in Manchester and then immediately jumping into the three months “Study Period” in Tvind has been quite of a turning point for the whole team. knowledge. So far the knowledge we gained from the last period of the European Reality is there. But it is still raw, unprocessed and not accessible. It is relatively full of unanswered questions. This is why we have 2,5 months to dismantle and put together our valuable experiences and studies from our Second Year in the European Field of Practice. DNS 2011 is trying to fill in and make the most out of the period. Here we have the privilege to focus and dig into the studies using our tools to frame the period using the fundamental studies, the specialization and finalizing the second year´s exams. Laura Preto: Taking Bus Driving License 5 students from DNS´s 1st Year, Edvinas, Algis, Laura, Milo and Francesca are taking driving license for bus. Laura tells: "Another challenge for some of us in the DNS education: taking the Bus driving license! Would easier if we could do in our own language (in my case Italian), but we live in Denmark and actually after 6 months living here we found the proper occasion to learn this difficult Danish language. Everybody was busy with jobs, so we didn't really find the time to study grammar, or to follow organized Danish lessons; we had to learn it together with the studies of mechanics and road rules! Everyday we go to the driving school, from 8.00 in the morning until 15.00, where we follow lessons with teachers and on a web program. When we started, we couldn't understand and talk so much; but working hard until late every night, having continous tests together and translating word by word, we improved a lot! We are five from 2013 team in this challenge and we support eachother studying together, organizing studyactivities to learn (and memorize) all the necessary terms and theory of the bus. Yes, because the theory is the main challenge. Our lessons in the driving school are also based on practice (luckily), so we had a lot of fun learning how to drive a bus, that is really an experience. When you jump to the drivers´ seat for the first time for sure you notice how different is from a car: a lot of buttons and levers; you notice how far you have to go with your arm by using the gear, and do it while you are driving implies a lot of attention in your movements. Buses are huge creatures on the road and you
cannot allow yourself to lose attention or control. The first practical lessons were mainly in the city center and out of the city, focusing on how to make turns in the right way that is one of the most difficult things. But the great experience was our extreme driving day, in which we had to learn how to manage the driving in difficult situations like on wet ground or during the night. We tried the hand-break on a wet downhill road with the consequent slip- turning of the bus, and we had to set in the straight position again, very fast, and get out of the wet road. Simply amazing! We will go to Africa, so it is useful to control different kinds of road states, cause there won´t just be big roads and highways. Our time now is centered on theory because our exam will be in oral danish, so all our energies are focused in listening and test activities. After hours and hours of studies, practice and fun we can say that we hope soon to receive our licences and scream together "LET'S DRIVE!" :)

Welcome to DNS-2013 .... Bus group 1 ....
"Learning is much more than studying in a classroom. It is travelling in a bus to other countries that are different from our own and experiencing the real world of the poor and the very rich and posing the “why questions! It is investigating the situation and letting people teach us from their life experience."
