Laindon War Memorial Relocated

S

wan have moved the War Memorial and Jubilee Fountain to a temporary location so that they can work on creating the new public space that will form the heart of Laindon Place. They commissioned fine art and antiquities removal experts Momart (www.momart.com), who have a Royal Warrant, to carry out the removal and temporary re-instatement and they will return to install both of these much loved memorials to the centre of the new high street. The Swan team worked with local historian Ken Porter to create a bespoke hoarding around the War Memorial which highlights the names of all veterans who lost their lives from Laindon and the surrounding areas during WW1 and WW2. It is planned that the names will be recorded permanently once the memorial is sited in its final position. Whilst plans are to be finalised, Swan are working with Building Crafts College Stone Masons in Stratford to ensure a fitting reminder remains. Laindon Place | December 2019

Remembrance Sunday

Local Historian Ken Porter commented; “I would like to thank Swan Housing on behalf of the residents of Laindon and District for not only relocating our war memorial, albeit temporary, but also for designing and placing a banner on the hoarding of the development site next to the memorial, listing those that lost their lives in the two wars from the local area.
