LAINDON NEWSLETTER
Summer 2021 www.laindonfutures.co.uk
NEXT STEPS TO A NEW LAINDON At the beginning of June Swan Housing Association sent local residents a letter outlining the plans to pause work on the Laindon Place regeneration whilst we obtain an updated planning permission. As set out in that letter, we would like to reassure the local community that Swan remains committed to delivering a new high street and moving their staff from Billericay to our new Laindon office which is the building on the corner at the Laindon Link end of the site. The updated planning permission will reflect changes to the highways required by Essex
County Council; the change to steel-framed modular construction (to address changes to regulations since the original planning consent was granted) and a number of design efficiencies (because of the change to steel framed modular construction) which may allow us to include additional homes. Swan is committed to making the plans for Laindon Place work harder and for example, we hope that we can now replace a number of the smaller studio flats with one-bedroom flats. After all, lockdown has reminded everyone how important it is to have a bit of extra space in our homes. Please do be assured, Swan has no plans to put a tower block on the site!
STEEL-FRAMED MODULAR CONSTRUCTION
Shared ownership properties at Landmark, Laindon
Swan was one of the first UK based housing developers to produce precision engineered modular homes. We now have two modular housing factories in Basildon and, if planning permission is granted, the steel framed modules used at Laindon Place will be manufactured locally. UPDATE TO HIGHWAYS Swan has received technical approval from Essex Highways for the proposed changes to the layout of the High Road. We are continuing to work closely with Basildon Borough Council’s officers and Councillors in order to submit the required planning application for the new layout. We thank everyone for their continued support.

BACK YARD NATURE Helping protect your nature in Laindon Swan is committed to Loving the Planet and so has partnered with housing associations from across the UK to help children and their families protect nature where they live. Throughout this summer the Back Yard Nature Project will be working with communities in
Laindon to improve the quality and increase the use of the local green spaces. Swan has already supported residents on Churchview estate by supplying them with waste materials from the Laindon Place regeneration site that will be recycled into planters and birdboxes.
Backyard Nature is a grassroots campaign to inspire all children aged between 5 and 12, to spend more time outside and enjoy protecting nature, through the planting of wildflowers, the creation of new habitats for insects and increased awareness of how nature works. Backyard Nature aims to inspire and empower children to become nature guardians, by exploring and protecting their own ‘backyard’ nature.
