Swanline’s next-generation HP Scitex FB10000 Industrial Press, the first installation of its kind in the UK, allows you to experience the very best a digital flatbed press can offer. Productivity, versatility, quality and value have all reached new levels of excellence thanks to our collaborative agents at HP.

The HP Scitex FB10000 Industrial Press uses ultra-small ink droplets to print at a quality approaching that of offset litho - surpassing all previous UV inkjet flatbed capabilities. This, combined with the high speed proficiency of the press, opens up markets in the packaging sector previously exclusive to shorter run offset litho, post-print flexo and screen print markets.

also means that we can print on substrates ranging from corrugate to polypropylene - with the crucial potential for faster, more efficient lead-times. Used in conjunction with our Esko Kongsberg cutting tables, this press also allows Swanline to specialise in short-medium production runs, eliminating any need for excess unit purchases that may have proved an issue in the past.

The development of ‘HP Scitex High Dynamic Range Printing Technology’ will vastly enhance your market capabilities through the unique capacity to print in a 16 grey-level format.

The HP Scitex FB10000 Industrial Press is perfect for high-impact graphic packaging and displays, as well as shorter-run POS and retail graphics, and its unmatched media versatility

And, with longevity ensured thanks to built-in upgradeability courtesy of HP’s ground-breaking technology, Swanline is well-placed to cater for all of your digital needs for the foreseeable future.

D i g i ta l F i n i s h i n g Kongsberg XP Digital Production Cutting Table The speed, versatility and accuracy of our Kongsberg XP digital cutting table combine to offer radical new levels of productivity and throughput, ensuring that whatever your finishing needs, we can meet them head on with quality and efficiency. Designed to handle corrugated board and other rigid or roll materials, the Kongsberg XP is ready to run jobs ranging from a single unit to a full scale production with up to 1000 units a day. Its extraordinary production power is fuelled by a

very short set-up time and range of versatile tools, meaning that for corrugated short runs, digital finishing now challenges the throughput on manual clam-shell die cutters. Kongsberg XN Digital Sample Table Our Kongsberg XN finishing table is one of the most adaptable devices of its kind on the market. Its wide range of speciality tools offer the speed, power and flexibility needed to handle a wide range of media – offering you the perfect solution for cost-efficient mock-ups and ultra-short run productions.

Litho Printing

0. 21 1

Litho Printing Litho print is outsourced to a number of trade partners, thereby giving Swanline the flexibility to utilise the most competitive press size for each individual specification. Printed sheets of any size can be sealed with aqueous coatings or a UV varnish. Film laminates can also be applied to some printed sizes giving added durability and quality of finish. Swanline source the paper, which is typically 210gsm coated white lined chip, 160gsm coated white kraft or 175gsm silk art paper. Paper is supplied through UK reel stocks or mill makings from European paper mills, though other grades can be sourced if desired. Print sheet can also be supplied by customers if required.

E m b o ss i n g & D e b o ss i n g Embossing Embossing is a technique which creates a raised, 3D image on a paper substrate or similar material. It is typically accomplished with a combination of heat and pressure on the paper using a metal die and a

counter die, which form the fibres of the substrate into the corresponding die design. The combination of pressure and heat ‘irons’ the design into the paper giving attractive results, particularly when combined with offset lithographic print or metallic blocking.

Debossing In contrast to embossing, the debossing effect creates a depressed impression on stock. Utilising the same technique, only in reverse, debossing pushes an image below the surface level of a material.

31

32

Foil Blocking Hot Foil Blocking

Cold Foil Blocking

Hot foil blocking is the application of a foil (often gold, silver or bronze – but can be other colours) to paper. A heated die is stamped onto the foil securing it to the surface and leaving the design of the die on the paper. Hot foil blocking can be combined with embossing or debossing to create a more striking 3D image.

Cold foil blocking is similar to hot foil blocking, but as implied by the name, doesn’t involve applying the foil by heat. It is an inline process that runs in conjunction with printing, and the design is applied via UV activated adhesive rather than a heated die.

33

O P P (Oriented Polypropylene) Film Lamination Swanline’s Billhofer OPP film laminator applies a gloss or matt film to litho printed sheets and paper substrates. Its durable, scuff-resistant surface is ideal for pack or display purposes, and offers a great alternative to UV varnishes and sealants. With the laminator, we are also able to apply Metalized PET films to paper that can subsequently be screen printed, spot varnished or digitally printed for high quality packaging products. Max Sheet Size: 1020 x 1400mm

34

Spot UV Spot UV varnish can be used to great effect in highlighting specific graphic or text areas, and in helping to create a premium appearance. It is also possible to add texture to the varnish, giving a luxury feel to the print.

35

36

Speciality Gluing Swanline offers a gluing service using an Andrew & Suter Supernova speciality gluer, which broadens our ability to offer a one-stop-shop for your packaging and point-of-sale requirements – all with confidentiality guaranteed. The machine can be used for many box styles and size combinations, including four corner and crash lock glued cartons. We also operate a semi-automatic hot-melt gluing machine that caters for most large format display and packaging requirements. Swanline’s Bickers Gluejet 17.25 X/Y geometric pattern gluer significantly increases productivity and helps alleviate the bottleneck normally associated with hand gluing. The large format size of the machine allows precise application of adhesive and therefore gives Swanline’s creative design team a broader scope to exploit its manufacturing capabilities.

TOP SECRET FACT: Swanline’s complete ‘design to delivery’ service offers a full hand finishing and assembly service as well as fulfilment, packing and distribution.

37

38

Never Say Never Again! Swanline has introduced ‘Fast-Track’, a free service that ensures ultra-fast production lead times. New and repeat litho lamination specifications can be produced and delivered in 5-7 working days or less; and digital or screen print jobs can be produced and delivered in as little as 2 working days. Job complexities vary, so project lead times are agreed between both parties and any external suppliers at the outset and a critical path is configured. The ground-breaking lead-times include artwork preparation, PDF proof approval, corrugate and paper supply, print, laminate, diecut, glue and delivery.

Undercover Logistics Swanline has a fleet of plain liveried vehicles which can act as your own vehicles for direct deliveries to your client, using your paperwork. This reduces costs, carbon footprints and timescales for deliveries. Also, if required, our Transport and Sales Co-ordinator Margaret Munt can liaise directly with your client to ensure booking-in procedures are followed without any complications. Our drivers are professional in their manner, wearing suitably plain uniforms. When required, transport is sub-contracted to a local haulage company who adopt the same professional manner.
