Interview with a bear If you thought Togademus was just a lovely toy shop on Poplar Road in Kings Heath, then think again. It is also home to an extraordinary bear whose name just happens to be Togademus too. What a co-incidence! Togademus the bear is occasionally seen in the shop and whenever he’s there he insists on giving every customer 10% off. If you follow him on Twitter you’ll always know when he’ll be there, or keep a close eye on the shop window where he loves to sit. We sent along our lead reporter to find out more. Christmas is a very busy time for a toy shop how do you think you will cope? Oh, the shop is most fun when it’s full of people so we don’t mind at all. It is lovely to see happy children playing with the toys. What kind of toys do you have on your shelves this year? Proper toys! The kind for children to live with, play with, learn from and enjoy, especially lots of traditional and wooden toys. The shop looks quite up-market from outside – is it expensive? Not at all. Some of the toys are only £1 and most of the toys that people buy are between £5 and £10. But we do have some really special toys too that cost a bit more.

So, Togademus, is it your shop then? I couldn’t really say that, my family do most of the work. I see. And can people find out about the shop before arriving? Well there’s the website. It’s www.togademus.co.uk and I know they are always putting photos on there so people can see new toys when they arrive. And it’s got opening times and directions as well. Cool. So, finally, what are you hoping for this Christmas? Oh I’m easy to please – I just like to see happy faces.

Riverford Organic's recipe of the month Wok-fried Brussels Sprouts with Ginger (serves 4) By Jane Baxter, Riverford Field Kitchen Taken from the Riverford Farm Cook Book

Heat the oil in a wok, add the shallots or onion, plus the garlic and chilli, and fry quickly for about 2 minutes, without browning. Add the shredded sprouts and the fresh and crystallised ginger. Cook, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes. Add 3 tablespoons of water, cover and steam for 3 minutes. Season to taste and serve.

Priya arrives in Moseley Have you noticed the new restaurant in Moseley? Well we did and we couldn’t wait for the opportunity to go and sample their culinary delights. Priya, which opened on St Mary’s Row in August, has been tastefully refurbished to combine contemporary style with a traditional twist. We went along to check them out on a chilly evening in October and were met with a most warm welcome from the attentive and friendly staff and we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. I got there first and sat in the comfortable reception area with some Bombay mix to nibble on while I waited for my other half. It was very calming sitting by the stunning water feature that is set in the wall between the reception area and the restaurant itself. 16
Then we went through and sat by the window with a good view of the whole restaurant which stretches right through to the back which has access from the pay and display car park. As you walk through Priya there are different areas which are decorated uniquely giving it a fresh feel and creating natural rooms within rooms. To the rear they are able to accommodate larger parties without separating them completely. The menu has a good range of Indian and Bangladeshi inspired dishes with a number of specials developed by the restaurant owner Paul Mazumder and his chef that you will not find
on any other menu. Priya also have a gorgeous children’s menu which is the perfect way to help introduce your little ones to Indian food. Priya is licensed which I always find refreshing - and we had a nice dry white wine (me) and pint of Cobra (him) to accompany our food. After lovely crisp popadoms with home-made relishes we shared our starters of Sag Paneer (from the side dish section) and Tandoori Chicken which arrived sizzling on a hot platter. They were beautifully presented and tasted fantastic too.
we thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful and will definitely be going back again. Priya is open Monday to Sunday from 5.30pm to 11.30pm. They also have a takeaway menu and cater for larger groups of up to 25 people.

Moseley in Bloom Awards Night Moseley in Bloom Awards night took place on 6 November at the Cross. This glittering event celebrates Moseley in Bloom’s achievements over the past year and thanks and rewards local individuals, businesses and organisations. In the Heart of England in Bloom, Moseley again won Gold, and, for the sixth time, was Best in the Urban Communities category. After the RHS judges have visited Moseley, the in-Bloom team makes its own awards to those who have contributed to make Moseley cleaner and greener. Coveted trophies designed by Samantha McKewan, a local artist, were presented to the winners. Moseley rings to a new tune this Christmas St Mary’s Church in the heart of Moseley has a new voice with the installation of ten new bells in October. The old steel bells were nominated as worst ring in Britain on a recent Radio 4 Broadcast. After three years of campaigning and fundraising following a launch in July 2009, Moseley now rings to a different tune thanks to the £140,000 raised by the church and the local community. Local volunteers helped in the mammoth task of putting the new bells in after the old steel ones had been removed in January 2012.
Listen for the new ring: Practice nights are on Mondays from 7.30pm with ringing for the service on Sunday mornings from 9.30am.

Dignity in dementia Behind the beautiful and slightly grand façade of Sunrise Senior Living in Edgbaston you might simply assume there lays an efficient, high quality care home. You would be right to think high quality and efficient, but in reality this care home is much more. It has been designed to be as homely and comforting as possible. And the “Reminiscence” neighbourhood, which is where the residents with dementia live, is a home from home even down to the friendly dog Zack along with a budgie and tropical fish.
