VV Mineral India Is Not Involved In Any Illegal Mining Activity, says Vaikundarajan The Mines and Minerals Act of 1957 suggests that the beaches of Orissa Sand Complex, Manavalakurichi in Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu have been identified as the main source of monazite. In 2014, it was reported that 2.1 million tons of monazite had disappeared from the shores of India. VV Minerals India, a sand beach mining company owned by S Vaikundarajan, was accused of illegal mining.
A committee has been set up by the government to look into the matter; however, the locals have shown little of no faith in the committee. They have requested for a CBI enquiry. Ashish Kumar, the district collector of Tuticorin, was one of the members looking into the matters. On receiving transfer orders, many pointed out the connection VV Minerals India and the ongoing investigation. Ashish Kumar, however, never even mentioned the link.
No evidence has come to light to prove that VV Minerals had anything to do with the illegal sand beach mining. Vaikundarajan, who set up the business in late 90s, insists that his company is not involved in any illegal activities. He continues to offer his support to the investigating committee and hope that justice will prevail soon.
