Project Description

Team Menis Architecture, Masterplan 2014 Conceptualisation of the program and space. Demolition of the existing ground structure and erecting a steel structure which was independant structurally and did not depend on the existing building. Developing concept and working drawings. Material selection for easy maintenance. Co-ordination and execution on site. The school acts as an attractor in the residential area of Jogeshwari, in Suburban Mumbai. Apart from educating students till the 10th grade, this school also hosts many extra curricular activities for the society around, and many social gatherings and events take place here. Being a resident myself, I got a chance to work on this project in our locality. The process involved addressing issues like maintaining hygiene in the canteen area, bringing in more light and also create storage space as a part of the design. The school authorities also wanted to create a space for events and cultural performances.

2.3 Fernando Menis Architects 3 Villas Rehabilitation, China Collaborators Scale/type Year Scope of Work

Project Description

Team Menis Architecture, 3 Villas 2014 Concept Design Model Making Working Drawings The houses are designed such that it is one with nature. The exterior and interior are overlapped and merged, blurring the distinct edge between them. Nature also plays a role as a connector since the vegetation and position of rocks create a sense of unity between the houses and their exterior spaces. There are three villas – Water, Hill and Tree villa. Each of the houses includes a water element in its design. Everything in the valley appears to be connected but the entrances to the houses are protected and independent. The ramp leads to the entrance gate (control point) for cars while the staircase is for the pedestrians. Further down are five parking slots with a shelter embedded in the landscape that includes the services for the house. The houses are also built keeping in mind the privacy that will be required from the north side which holds the public part of the lake. The protective wall which has new planted trees will control the view from and to the villas.

3.1 TMD Cell Kila Sarai and Jaageshwar Mandir Precinct, Madhya Pradesh Sangwamal, Harda, Madhya Pradesh Collaborators Scale/type Year

Scope of Work

Tapan Mittal-Deshpande, Niket Deshpande, Riddhi Shah Conservation Project 2014 The project was approached with a few sessions of detailed Historical readings and discussions with Ms. Tapan Mittal-Deshpande (Conservation architect) and another colleague. Measured drawings of the precicnt. Studies and diagrams to narrate the entire story of the Sarai. Structural analysis, condition mapping, Material Extant drawings and Room inventories were prepared with the guidance and notes of the structural consultant. 3d modelled the entire site of Jaageshwar which was further used for studies and diagrams. The precinct of Kila Sarai & Jaageshwar Mandir is located in Sangwamal village (also known as Sangwa) in district Harda approximately at a distance of 250 km from the cities of Bhopal and Indore.

Project Description

The site is enclosed by a series of inner and outer fortification walls, the remains of which are spread beyond the fields on almost all sides and within the settlement. The outer fortification ramparts suggest a large enclosure with fruit orchards, farmlands and plantations onthe eastern area extending into the historical forest landscape. Presently, private landowners with their cultivated lands occupy majority of this area. The remains of these fortifications at several locations within the settlement indicate a larger territory occupied by the historic site. The Jaageshwar temple stands on the southern side of the open courtyard along with the samadhi next to it. A small and simple structure with a square sanctum with the entry facing the north, is known for its east-west orientation of the yoni unlike the normal axis and also shows a wateroutlet on the eastern wall. And though the feature is not so very rare, has given room for formation of local legends emphasising on the svayambhu nature of the linga and yoni.

Apartment 74, Mumbai Client & Collaborator Scale/type Year Scope of Work

Project Description

Kulsum Shahiwala Residential Interior 2017 Design and Execution of a 3BHK (1000 sq. ft.) Apartment The apartment is home to a young couple, who wished to have a very minimal set up, with enough natural light flooding all the spaces. The design of the house sees, pops of colour in each space, in an otherwise white interior. The bathrooms were finished in IPS-oxide and treated as monochrome boxes. One can explore or experience each space thorugh the various levels created with teakwood shelves and platforms. Clean soffits, continous lines and concealed details, led to a clean and warm aesthetic. Bespoke furniture, closely detailed to blend with the aesthetic of the spaces.

Living Room

As one enters the living space, the large opening floods the space with light which is refleced by the white walls, thus make room a bright and vibrant space. The Teak wood platforms add warmth and tend to balance the ambience. The living and dining spaces, spill into one another, which could transform to become one for a social gathering. The wainscotting along the entrance wall guides to the first space of the house. The matte grey wall forms a backdrop for artwork and posters, that would animate the space further. The swivel-double arm sconce, transforms the corner of the room into a relaxed, reading nook.

Dining Area

The solid wood dining table, sits alongside the dining unit which gets flushed with the other vertical surfaces, due to the minimal details and avoids visual clutter. The air conditioner sits within a wooden grill, to allow for a clean space without additional elements.

Adding a pop of colour in the bedrooms, with teak wood shelves, makes for a vibrant space.

Lekha Washington Lighting, Products and Furniture 2017 Design and execution of the various products and furniture pieces Vendor Development Market research and survey

A glowing, neon squiggle, made from LED lights that last significantly longer than their fragile glass cousin, the Beam is our newest offering in cutting edge playful meets post modern lighting. Available as a chandelier or a floor piece, the Beam offers the perfect accent in mood lighting.Â

Moonlight A touch sensitive mirror reveals stages of a moon cycle as the light increases in brightness. Available in variable sizes, this dramatic form masquerades as a spherical reflective accent when not lit.

The Spin

A horizontal tornado of spinning tungsten bulbs, Spin plays with movement. This piece is a fluid moment in time, illustrating motion with fluid form. No two Spin lights are alike as each piece is hand welded to create it’s own unique play of light.

The Raven

With form derivative of a flock of Ravens flight, this piece is distinctive in its look and feel. The Raven is also distinctive in its function, as each of it’s joinery details are tiny magnets, which hold the “wings” together, allowing for user manipulation of it’s shape.

Square Sink A variation of the Pink Sink, the Square sink is very comfortable while being very playful. Flat until you sit on it, the square sink has removable covers and a quiet sense of humour.

Winning Entry for the Facade Design Competition Collaborators Scale/type Year Scope of Work

Pooja Katara, Quentin Charial Installation/Facade 2014 Design and Execution of the installation at Circulo De Bellas Artes (Awarded 1000 Euros for the execution of the installation)

Calle Castillo, a street in Santa Cruz, Tenerife, since the seventeenth century, Project always contained with a lively crowd, movement, excitement, passion for Description purchase, a space exhibiting ‘ART for free’. The colours and the banners that catch the eye of the pedestrians, take away from this humble space, and it goes rather unnoticed. Most times, during movement, what we forget to give importance to, is the stillness, and this space is that important part of the street. The concept of the installation was mock the commercial craze of this bustling street. So all the waste produced from the high end stores was physically collected and made into an installation for people to look at and experience.

6.1 YEAR 5_EXCERPTS FROM DESIGN DISSERTATION ‘The City & The Explorer’

The city is a labyrinth of stories and narrations and the device allows each individual to create a personalised version of their environment. It helps make the ‘daily life’ of a commuter/traveller, in the city, interesting by adding layers of information in an imaginative space. These layers would be personal to every user and each can be recorded as a bank of individual imaginations and recreations of a particular frame. The ndividual recorded walks can then be shared with the city, in an interactive space, ‘The Kiosk’, which acts a bank of these experiences.

6.2 YEAR 4_TREASURE IN 2050 The project involved the selection and analysis of an event, placed in the past or in the future in the timeline of the city of Mumbai, once Bombay. The concept of the event was fleshed out further using a storyboard and a stop motion animation movie with characters that tied the past and the future together. Event : 2050_Treasure of the Abandoned Church

Medium : Stop Motion Animation Film Site : SEEPZ Industrial Estate, Andheri, Mumbai

Programme : Treasure Hunt through the Musuem (extension of the dilapitated Church) for the Holy Grail

The studio was designed to measure draw and document the Almeida Villa, an old Portuguese heritage structure. The house is located in the Versova village and is given out for films shoots etc., on a regular basis, hence the program of a film making institute was decided upon. A part of the existing stucture was asked for us to retain, as part of the design brief. The design was conceptualised with a physical crack throught the lenght of the building/mass, letting in a sharp shaft of light and creating dramatic light conditions, which would enhance the experience of the institute.
