With some big-time players gone after graduation, returnees have to step up their play and new players have to make an impact. Glen Rose finished with a record of 14-9-1 last season and a district mark of 6-2. The Lady Tigers nearly won the district title, but Hillsboro pulled off a 4-2 victory for all the marbles. The Lady Tigers return three all-district players. Cheyenne Harton was 7-3A Offensive Player of the Year, Destenie Lewis was a first team selection at shortstop and Page Green was a second team selection in left field. This year, Harton is slated to primarily play catcher, but first base and outfield are also options. “Cheyenne has big power potential at the plate,” said coach Kiel Miller. “Right now, she’s doing really well at catcher. The quickness of her release and her arm strength have really developed. She’s been able to throw out some runners early on.” Lewis overcame a knee injury last year to find success. “Destenie is hitting the ball hard and doing a good job so far of getting on base as a leadoff hitter,” Miller said. “She gets a good jump on the ball defensively. I think her quickness will continue to improve as the season goes on and her knee injury gets

I think she’ll move from left to centerfield this year. She’s a good bunter, but also brings some power.” Amber Ponce plays third base. “Amber brings three years of experience to the position,” Miller said. “She may have some pitching duties. Her bat is coming around, and Amber has the potential to be a bigtime hitter.” Hannah Morales will play

several roles. “Hannah will be a key pitcher this year,” Miller said. “She’s well-rounded and can play multiple positions. I see her playing some third base and second base. She’s a good hitter with some power.” Sierra Armstrong has outfield experience. “She may get some work in centerfield and can also play shortstop,” Miller said. “Sierra’s speed is down some coming off a knee injury. Her bat is coming along, and she just needs more at bats to hone her skills.” Sydney Stegint mans first base.

“Sydney is an experienced player,” Miller said. “She’s done a good job handling poor throws to first base. Her bat is picking up and she brings some power.” Bryse Brownen’s role could increase as the season goes. “She’s dealing with an arm injury early on, but Bryse could pitch when she’s up to it,” Miller said. “She can play first base and third base. She’s off to a good start with her hitting.” Kensy Massey is an option at second base. “Kensy has a solid bat and her power is improving,” Miller said. “She’s quick on

the bases.” Miranda Metker is another candidate for second base. “Miranda runs well,” Miller said. “She could become a solid hitter.” Taya Vasquez could become a key pitcher in her first year with the program. “Taya has good potential as a pitcher and she can play third base,” Miller said. “Hopefully she brings a powerful bat and gives us some key hits.” Sabrina Watson is an option in the outfield and at shortstop. “Sabrina brings good speed and she’s working on her bat-

ting,” Miller said. Madi Gibson gets another shot to contribute after her freshman season was cut short due to injury.
