The T wo minute drill The Indians ended the 2013 season with a 3-7 record (2-7 if you are not counting the game against Corsicana as a win. Waxahachie had the 20-15 lead before the game was called off due to bad weather). The Indians also finished last in district play, winning just one district game by beating the 4-6 Red Oak Hawks 21-7. After losing some valuable players from last season, including the majority of its offensive line and starting quarterback Avery Jackson this year’s squad has a long road ahead of them if they want to prove to their opponents that they are a contender. The Indians 2014 season will kickoff on Aug. 29, when they look to get revenge against the rival Midlothian Panthers at Lumpkins Stadium, for the 49-14 loss from last year. The Indians will also make their first appearance in the Dale Hansen Football Classic game on Sept. 6, when they take on a new opponent, the Frisco Raccoons, who finished 9-4 last season.

The Two minute drill Greg Hayes returns as the head football coach at OCS for 201415. Ovilla Christian started the football program last year, Hayes led the squad to a 5-3 winning record in their inaugural season as an independent team. For the 2014-15 season the program will compete in a district in TAPPS D-1 6 Man.

The Battle of 287 is one of the Waxahachie Indians biggest football rivalries against the Ennis Lions. Currently the Lions lead the series (3-9) in all-time meetings between the two towns, most recently winning last season. The Indians look to win the series this year, with a younger offensive line and a fresh quarterback at the reigns. The Indians will be on the road for this season’s Battle of 287, which takes place on Sept. 12.

Avalon is going to have to get by without last season’s starting quarterback, Blake McCulloch. McCulloch signed to play football at SAGU after graduation last year.

Milford lost a lot of key starters, including QB Eric Evans, that took the Bulldogs to the state title game during the 2013 season.
In all-time meetings between the two schools the Indians hold the record in games won (4-20-1), with the first recorded meeting being in 1927 when Waxahachie won with a final of 19-0.
This will be head coach Lee Wiginton’s fifth season with the Midlothian Panthers football program and his 15th season being a head football coach overall.

The Bulldogs will have their starting quarterback, Ty Mitchell, on the team for one more season. Mitchell was recognized as a 2013 All-District second team offensive player for District 12-2A Division I at his position.

The T wo minute drill Red Oak ended their 2013 season with a 4-6 record, only beating two of their seven district opponents. Ironically both of those district wins were just one-point victories. Their first being a 21-20 final over the 2-8 Mansfield Lake Ridge Eagles and the second being a 35-34 win against the 6-5 Arlington Seguin Cougars. These weren’t the only one-point victories that the 2013-14 Hawks had, they started their season with a 23-22 win over the 5-5 Wylie East Raiders, the same team they will begin this season with.
So what’s different about this season? Last year’s head coach Mike Shields left for another coaching join in Terrell. This year the team is under the direction of head coach Brian Brown. Brown is joining the program with 21 years of experience and two state championship titles in coaching, with his most recent tenure being at Liberty-Eylau. The Red Oak Hawks will be facing off against the Azle Hornets to get the third annual Dale Hansen Classic started on Friday Sept. 5.

The Maypearl-Italy Rivalry
One of the biggest and longest standing rivalries for the Panthers is against the Italy Gladiators. These two teams first faced each other 90 years ago, in 1924. Italy currently leads the Maypearl-Italy series 21-5-0.

The T wo minute drill The Ennis Lions were one of two Ellis County football teams that made an appearance in the state finals last season, after posting an impressive 14-1 record. Had they have won, it would have been the Lions fifth state championship (1975, 2000, 2001, 2004). They are ranked as the No. 16 team in the state of Texas and No. 124 by MaxPreps.com going into the 2014-15 season. The Lions also have a key player returning to their squad this year, defensive end James Lockhart (No. 9). The 6’2, 253 lbs senior has already committed to play for Texas A&M after graduating this year.
