I’m Swetha, currently purusing my fourth year bachelor’s degree in Architecture at Misrimal Navajee Munoth Jain School of Architecture. Art has always been my keen interest and I wanted to explore that on the real world, hence architecture became an outlet for me on that note. During these four years, I have understood that how architecture could be used a connecting tool between the human emotions and the buildings. It is a disciple that is about human experience and context. I believe “Architecture is a visual art and buildings speak for themselves.” Through my internship, I would love to meet a new team, apply my knowledge to the most and push my boundaries to learn new concepts and techniques.

A student almost spends 8 to 9 hours in a day at campus so designing just don’t stop by building classrooms and studio. Influencing the users mind, is a curial role of a architect while designing a campus. The design should be in such a way that it ensures a very energetic and a productive environment. A design school is not only for studying, it is a place where students learn through interacting with each other.
FORM DEVELOPMENT
The evolution of the form for the campus design is with the concept of creative diversity.
The site plan shows the wide openess around the buildings, and also making the academic blocks as the centre element of design.

GROUND FLOOR PLAN
The concept of this design is to replicate a densely packed forest space in between a busy city centre. The building is designed with the concept of “Walk inside the forest” by creating a sense of calmness. The plot coverage of the design is about 40% giving much scope to creating open and social interactive spaces.

The main motto of designing with only 40% plot coverage for built-up is to create a visually pleasing landscape space around the building. The building is surrounded by gardens and play areas; the facility refers to the ideas of growth and nature, but also at the same time helps enrich the public realm. The building celebrates nature and the ideas of growth and life.

He was in the cinema field for more than 30 years, giving us great films. He has inspired us the most that has led us to design a memorial for him, which is about the skill beyond the soul. The planning of the project is same as the above. It talks about the concept of “Skill beyond soul.”

During the 4th year, 8th semester I was introduced to the urban design study. Urban design is about making connections between people and places, movement and urban form, nature and the built fabric. Urban design draws together the many strands of place-making, environmental stewardship, social equity and economic viability into the creation of places with distinct beauty and identity.

3 Urban design is the process of designing and shaping the physical features of cities, towns, and villages and planning for the provision of municipal services to residents and visitors. More specifically, urban design is about creating public friendly environments such as, charming streetscapes, bustling markets, distinct town centres, safe neighbourhoods, beautiful parks, trails, and public squares.
We chose to study about the urban development of Perungudi. It is a neighbourhood of Chennai in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is bordered on two sides by the Old Mahabalipuram Road and the Perungudi lake.
I was into hydrology and ecology group through which I got to know about how the aquifers function and the hazardous impact on the environment due to urbanization.

I have participated in a few competitions during these four years of my undergraduate program. Competitions has always given me the freedom to design without any limitations or restrictions. It gives us the space to come up with creative ideas; allows us to explore. Here I’m attaching few of my competition sheets along with this portfolio. Few of the projects added are team works and credits are given to the respectives.

MIDAS COLLEGE DESIGN COMPETITION Team Design: Swetha.S - Kapileshwaran.T Project type: Market design Site: Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai
Kadaitheru the micro open-air market is designed which is convenient, portable and constructed using recycled materials of low cost. The site chosen for this project measures about 0.6 acres, is an existing park named (Thiruvalluvar nagar park, Thiruvanmiyur RTO). This site is chosen because parks are the green breathing spaces of a community and is also present at the centre of the community making it easily accessible. The project is designed with the concept of “Human behaviour.” The design goes along with the site context by not disturbing the cultural aspects of the surrounding.
