You won’t only learn the Portuguese culture, but you’ll learn the worldwide culture! Why the “worldwide culture”? Portugal: an wonderful country which deserves to be visited. It may be little on map but its culture is bigger than anything. We will start showing to you what are the main Portuguese symbols in each region of Portugal: The North The Center The South

Fado If you travel to Portugal, you have to watch one Fado concert, at least one! Fado is a Portuguese type of music which has born in Portugal. In this type of music its used one Portuguese traditional guitar, named “Guitarra Portuguesa” , which was born in Portugal too.

Amália Rodrigues was one Portuguese fado singer, and she is considered the most iconic person of Fado. She sang in various places, most of them very well know. She died in 1999.

Mariza is one fado singer too. She’s considered too, one of the most iconic person of Fado. She has sang in various places worldwide, like USA.

The north of Portugal is the coldest region of Portugal, but that doesn’t mean it is not friendly! Well know for its wines and gastronomy, visit the North is a good option!


Alto Douro Wine Region

The Alto Douro Region has been producing wine for nearly two thousand years. Since the 18th century, its main product, Port Wine, has been world famous for its quality.

The cultural landscape of the Alto Douro is an outstanding example of a traditional European wine-producing region, reflecting the evolution of this human activity over time.


Historic Centre Of Guimarães Guimarães is one of the country's most important historical cities. .

The city is often referred to as the "birthplace of the Portuguese nationality" or "the cradle city" (Cidade Berço in Portuguese), because that it also been the birthplace of Dom Afonso Henriques, the first Portuguese king. The early history of Guimarães is closely associated with the establishment of Portuguese national identity and the Portuguese language in the 12th

ďƒ˜ The Center

The center of Portugal is full of culture! You may visit such beautiful places and cities, and if you went into the country you will find snow between November and March, on the highest mountain of continental Portugal; the Serra da Estrela.


University of Coimbra – Alta and Sofia Situated on a hill overlooking the city, the University of Coimbra with its colleges grew and evolved over more than seven centuries within the old town.

Notable

university buildings include the 12th century Cathedral of Santa Cruz and a number of 16th century colleges, the Royal Palace of Alcáçova, which has housed the University since 1537, the Joanine Library with its rich baroque decor, the 18th century Botanical Garden and University Press.


Monastery of the Jerónimos and Tower of Belém Standing at the entrance to Lisbon harbor, those two monuments exemplifies the Portuguese art at its best, showing us the Manuelino style.

They were built to commemorate Vasco da Gama's expedition. They’re a reminder of the great maritime discoveries that laid the foundations of the modern world.

 The South

We are absolutely sure that you’ll never find beauty like this. The South is the warmest region in our country. In the Summer, travel to Portugal and you’ll find out why the Algarve beaches are ones of the bests in the world!


Garrison Border Town of Elvas and its Fortifications The fortifications of the city of Elvas have their origins in the Arab period; these were substantially upgraded during the Christian period up until the 16th century.

Elvas

is an outstanding example of a garrison town and its defense system, which developed in response to disruptions in the balance of power within 17th century in Europe.


Historic Centre Of Évora This museum-city, reached its golden age in the 15th century, when it became the residence of the Portuguese kings.

The

Temple of Diana in the center of the Centre of Évora take us to the ancient Roman times before Christ. The whitewashed houses around it are decorated with tiles which color is white and blue.

 The Islands

They may be a little bit far away from continental Portugal, but we have to admit you’ll never feel far from Portugal! In those two archipelagos, Madeira and Açores, you’ll find landscapes that you had never seen before!


The Laurisilva Of Madeira The Laurisilva of Madeira take us to a magical place, where the landscapes are breathtaking!

This

Portuguese Symbols it’s the only Portuguese natural marvel considered world heritage. The Laurisilva of Madeira is a place of importance for its biological diversity. This forest contains an unique suite of animals and plants.


Landscape of the Pico Island Vineyard Culture The Pico Island landscape reflects a unique response to viticulture on a small volcanic island.

This

long tradition of viticulture has been evolved since the arrival of the first settlers in the 15th century. The extraordinarily beautiful man-made landscape is testimony to generations of farmers who, in a hostile environment, created a sustainable living and much-prized wine.
