A day trip to the gorgeous islands of Sanibel and Captiva feels like a vacation, even for lifelong residents of Southwest Florida. It’s the perfect beach escape for solo travelers, families and more.

Start your day with a delicious (and punny) breakfast at the Island Cow or try The Sanibel Café. Then rent bikes at Billy’s Rentals so you can spend the rest of the day exploring the island on two wheels. Keep your eyes peeled for fun shops, including Gene’s Books, She Sells Sea Shells, and the eclectic boutiques in Periwinkle Place Shops. If you want to spend all day on the beach – you can! There are plenty of options to choose from. Bowman’s Beach is a secluded, peaceful spot with white sands, no hotels overlooking it, nature and fitness trails, canoe and kayak launches and barbecue grills.
