About Our Program A summer program where students shine their brightest. Summer is a wonderful time for all learners to engage in new opportunities, while participating in academic experiences integrated with challenging, interest provoking activities. Summer Explorations provides a safe, stimulating and supportive environment for all students to improve academic skills in reading and writing while offering enrichment activities in art, technology and crafts for three weeks in July. Our program utilizes the OrtonGillingham approach to maintain school-year gains and prepare rising 1st through rising 5th graders for the coming school year. Language learning challenges are admired, but not required.

Campers will become familiar with Swift’s style of classroom instruction, Orton-Gilllingham certified faculty and campus. Through participation in the summer program, new friendships with both Swift students and students from other schools in the area will develop. Discoverers Rising 1st and 2nd Grade Students

Young learners benefit significantly from continued contact with academic learning as their abilities broaden in small classes taught by experienced and talented teachers. The highly respected OrtonGillingham approach to written language and practice with written expression are the core of our program. Focused academic experiences are interspersed with exciting, multisensory activities which make the daily program fun-filled and dynamic. Upon completion of the Swift Summer Program, students should find themselves well prepared to enter into a new school year with skills and concepts intact and a renewed love of learning.

Daily Schedule • Morning Meeting • Orton-Gillingham Coding • Snack / Brain Break • Enrichment Activities • Framing Your Thoughts Writing Instruction • Lunch / Recess • Comprehension/Fluency • Camp-Wide theme day activity

Explorers Rising 3rd graders

Grade three is a turning point in a learner’s life. Thinking becomes more abstract, ideas and concepts presented to the student are more complex and more time and practice are required to conquer material presented. No longer are students learning to read; rather, they are reading to learn which, requires a very different skill set. Time is provided throughout the day in our summer program to allow third grade students to develop competency in this type of thinking, while practicing their language skills. Recognizing that these newer academic skills can be overwhelming to a student,

the day is interspersed with multisensory experiences that allow the student to process information, while enjoying those areas in which the learners have already shown competency. Upon completion of the Swift Summer Program, students should find themselves well prepared to enter into a new school year with skills and concepts intact and a renewed love of learning. Daily Schedule • Warm Up • Orton-Gillingham Coding • Snack/Brain Break • Reading Comprehension/Fluency • Enrichment Activities • Lunch /Recess • Writing Instruction Framing Your Thoughts • Camp-Wide theme day activity

Investigators Rising 4th & 5th Grade Students

Fourth and Fifth graders will enjoy a program that includes multi-sensory reading curriculum centered around a small, student-led/teacher-guided discussion group in the form of a book club. The students themselves determine the course of their conversations, but they will occur through meaningful social interaction that fully integrates reading, writing, speaking, and listening. They are given the opportunity to complete their summer book report/project. Students will also learn how to segment words into prefixes, root words, and suffixes and will gain their knowledge through the use of Orton-Gillingham techniques and strategies through comprehensive instruction.

They will then transform and manipulate the word parts to help connect to the meaning which in turn connects to spelling. This is critical to expanding one’s vocabulary. Daily Schedule • Morning Meeting • Interactive Reading • Reading Comprehension/Fluency • Snack /Brain Break • Lunch/Recess • Enrichment Activities • Writing responses to Literature • Camp-Wide Theme Day Activity
