Susie O’Neill of Australia was nicknamed “Madame Butterfly” after she broke the 19-year-old world record of the original “Madame Butterfly,” the USA’s Mary T. Meagher. O’Neill won eight Olympic medals, including two gold: 200 fly (Atlanta 1996) and 200 free (Sydney 2000).
