ˆ n Memories Sw ˆn Atgofion Sw

S

ix years down the line, we like to think that Sw ˆn Festival has given you some memories that you’ll never forget. So, to coincide with the release of a number of short digital Sw ˆn Festival stories (see below), we asked you for your best memories of Sw ˆn’s gone by!

“Seeing Summer Camp and Benjamin Francis Leftwich perform for the BBC Radio Wales sessions at Kuku Club was breathtaking. It was so intimate and world’s away from any other gig. I loved that.”

“My favourite Swˆn Festival memory would have to be having the privilege to DJ during the Silent Disco. It was fantastic getting around 1,000 people to sing (badly) in unison while trying to show Steve Lamacq how it was done as he spun the other decks. That was a great night.”

“I was there when Yeasayer played during Sunday afternoon in Buffalo. Me and my friends didn’t know who they were, but got a tip-off to watch them so we did. It was packed, and understandably so. Thanks to whoever told us to stay, as I’ve been hooked to Yeasayer ever since!”

“One of my favourite-ever gigs was Truckers of Husk at Swˆn Festival 2008. It was in a small, cramped venue with a makeshift stage in one corner and I ended up standing on two sofas to get a good view. They were really bloody loud, sounding incredible. Oh, and there was lots of dancing.”

10 Feet tall, 5.30PM - 6.00pm, Saturday mab Jones is an award-winning spoken word artist from right here in Cardiff. Her performances are famed for focussing on entertainment and audience entertainment, so you’ll be sure to enjoy this. mabjones.com

O’Neill’s (trinity St) - 4.30pm-5.00pm - Saturday He has a breathy, wizened delivery which recalls James vincent mcmorrow that is at ease with the blues-influenced acoustic songs he plucks, reminding you of when you first heard Jose gonzalez’s mix of delicate guitar and deep, affecting vocals. marcoreillymusic.com @Marcoreilly

lUKe Sital-SingH 10 Feet tall - 7.00pm-7.45pm - Sunday Luke sital-singh is more for the subtle and low-key rather than overpowering. His soft, multi-tracked vocals recall Justin vernon and manage a timeless quality that hints at 70s Americana and fleet foxes’ wistfulness. He’s special, alright. lukesitalsingh.com @lukesitalsingh

REP DAT

SIMPLY RAD

repdat.com south London’s Rep dat have served as a media conduit for black British culture in fields as diverse as music, charities, film, sports and fashion since its formation in 2009. Having produced a third series of urban music show One mic or OH.Tv, Rep dat continue to develop links with both visual and online media. presenting national and local grime artists at this year ’s sw ˆn, Rep dat are proud to be associated with this now legendary annual event. Undertone / thursday

repdat.com simply Rad started at one of the last ever dananananaykroyd gigs where Jen Long of BBC Radio 1 and matt and isaac from Barely Regal got really drunk and dJ’d a lot of emo and Rihanna. They decided that it was so much fun they should do it all the time. since then they’ve put on some amazing bands from dry the River to dolfinz, to savoir Adore to splashh, and had a lot of fun promoting in both London and Cardiff. Expect awesome bands and probably a post-gig paramore singalong. it will be, quite simply, rad. Dempseys Fri / Buffalo Sun

TRAIL OF PRESS trailofpress.co.uk Trail of press is a Londonbased pR company that works predominantly with punk and indie artists, or whatever else catches their ears. The ever growing artist roster includes bands such as Trash Talk, We Are The Ocean, fidlar and Taken By Trees. Globe / thursday

THE LINE OF BEST FIT thelineofbest.com The Line of Best fit focuses on the best new and alternative music from around the world. A uk-based website with a truly international audience, it’s risen in the last six years to become an online taste-maker and branched out into video production, club nights and stages at some of Europe’s best festivals. Buffalo Sat / O’Neils SM Sun

WE ARE CARDIFF wearecardiff.co.uk We Are Cardiff is a voluntary project collecting the stories of people that live in the fine Welsh capital. starting out as a blog, we’ve recently decided to make a We Are Cardiff movie. Cardiff might be a little city, but it’s a great one. Through stories, poems, music and pictures, we’re unveiling what makes up this fair capital. 10 Feet tall / Saturday

ello, I’m zoë; this year ’s volunteers coordinator for Sw ˆn Festival. I started off as a volunteer in 2010 where I quickly learnt that it’s a great experience and something that I simply can’t recommend enough. You really get out what you put in and are rewarded by working with some amazing people, being able to see great bands and get a behind-the-scenes insight of this brilliant festival. For me, the best part is being around a bunch of people who love what they do. Sure it can be hard work, but it’s also so much fun - every year. Being part of our team is great for your CV and you’ll make some strong contacts for the future. i’ve made some amazing friends, collected unforgettable memories and fallen in love with new music.

“I love the fact that being part of the volunteers team last year felt more like being part of a huge family. I made so many good friends and listened to some amazing music. Being a Sw ˆn volunteer is one of the best things I’ve done.”

"Volunteering last year gave me a great taste of Cardiff's alive and thriving music scene. Everyone involved with Sw ˆ n is great fun to work with and I've got some great memories from it all." adam Soley, volunteer 2011
