HISTORY OF SITE

01

The site that been given to me as a Unit B group is located I Beirut, Lebanon. Beirut (/beɪˈruːt/ bay-ROOT;[4] Arabic: ‫ بيروت‬,romanized: About this soundBayrūt) is the capital and largest city of Lebanon. As of 2014, Greater Beirut has a population of 2.2 million, which makes it the third-largest city in the Levant region. The city is situated on a peninsula at the midpoint of Lebanon's Mediterranean coast. Beirut has been inhabited for more than 5,000 years, and was one of Phoenicia's most prominent city states, making it one of the oldest cities in the world. The first historical mention of Beirut is found in the Amarna letters from the New Kingdom of Egypt, which date to the 15th century BC.

INTRODUCTION OF SITE

02

The site is 3KM length that located at the Port Of Beirut , where the previous function is only for the port operation for the private government sector. The Port of Beirut is the main port in Lebanon on the eastern part of the Saint George Bay on Beirut's northern Mediterranean coast, west of the Beirut River. It is one of the largest and busiest ports on the Eastern Mediterranean. The new purpose idea is to design a functional building and landscape that can connect the city citizen of Beirut ( Public Space ) with the Port of Beirut ( Private Space) .

03

SITE • CON • DITIONS

In 4 August 2020, Beirut suffer a significant lost on it port site. That time there is a massive explosive happen and destroy the part of the Beirut . Part of the land is damage . The trapezium shape and form of the and the semi circle is highly damage .

04

ISSUE OF SITE

To understand the different types of problems and issue at the site.

“VEHICULAR CIRCULATION”` The existing road circulation is construct to follow the building and site circulation with consider then waste of the space and the limitation of the car road then can lead to traffic congestion issue.

“DISORGANIZED PARKING SPACES” The existing parking spot on the site was unorganized and randomly located around beside a building or located around the road site. Even worse is , from the studies and research , the driver even park at the bicycle lane.

“LACK OF PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY” Even before the port of Beirut exploded , the site is always full of disorganized parking spaces will full capacity of vehicular circulation without any concern of the pedestrian walkway . For the pedestrian , they only use the car road as the walkway..

“LACK OF INFRASTRUCTURE ” The lack of infrastructure is focus on the bicycle lane. Base on research, 40% of Beirut resident has less income to effort a personal vehicle . As for it bicycle is their best choose , but due to lack of infrastructure and planning from the government , no idea was brough up

SITE STRATEGIS & SOLUTION

05

To respond the different types of problems and issue at the site.

“VEHICULAR CITCULATION”` After understand the site, a new road have been design a linear ways and connected with roundabout for a better traffic road circulation.

“DISORGANIZED PARKING SPACES” Parking space is design next to building that attract people , to avoid clustered and illegal parking

“PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY” The new pedestrian walkway circulation is created around the main off from the vehicle circulation and connect to new infrastructure of public transport and public spaces.

“BICYCLE LANE ”

The new elevated cycling lane is proposed for the bikers to use a safe cycling path and a guide lane for users.

PROGRAM STRATEGIS The yellow colored structured are emphasized because the port of Beirut is very important to the people of Beirut in terms of food, cloths and resources are dependent on imported from overseas

Starting from the lower part of the board, the destruction land is to illustrate the exploded land after the catastrophe that happen to Beirut. The destruction left a lot of overhanging building materials and part of the port taken over by sea water. The shape are also distorted as the explosion shaped the land at the port

06 Broken pipe to represent the Beirut water problem since the explosive happen

To solve the water problem in Beirut :Water generated from the machines to generate seawater to fresh water and keep in this container for the Beirut resident.

PROGRAM STRATEGIS Greeneries and trees are located around the areas as Beirut lack of vegetation. To create better city and reduce humidity by adding parks and trees. Other then that, it also act as a barrier to avoids cars park illegally at the bike and pedestrian lane.

Beirut is a hot summer country with blazing sun so to add solar to support the sustainable energy

The chains, bicycle and wheels representing the city is moving on with the use of sustainable aspects. Therefore to strengthen the use of cycling as a main transportation by connecting and making the cycling path better to allow easier cycle around the city. As the city are quite packed and crowded, using cycling around cars are distressing, therefore by creating proper cycling lanes, it would able proper cycling safety`

07

For the cable car, to create better transportation, the cable car is proposed to allow easy connection in all areas, to be able for sight seeing and create something new in the city Other then that , cable car can save spaces also by building it at the exciting building, don’t even need to destroy a lot of building

Due to the strong winds at the Mediterranean Coast, a proposal to create wind turbines to be introduced near the cost to generate sustainable energy

To solve the water problem in Beirut :Water generated from the machines to generate seawater to fresh water and keep in this container for the Beirut resident

PROGRAM STRATEGIS The use of wind turbine also to create an idea of using sustainable energy and to have a sustainable connection between the second board

08

Water generated from the machines to generate fresh water would also be used and being stored with the silo water tanks.

Flying car is vision of how the future is where they in no limit in the transportation industry

The circular covers at the protected pod are to be used to generate food for the people, cows and chicken are farmed and paddies being farmed by robotics. The explosion in Beirut cause poisonous outcomes where the nutrients that is not absorb by the plants and soil flows to the water source creating a poisonous aquatic life. Due to the explosion, big amounts of the gas pollutes the soil surrounding the site which would eventually degrade the soil’s nutrients.

The circular cover is also to have the sense of protection, when human don’t really feel threatened but this accident.

PROGRAM STRATEGIS “HYPERLOOP TRAIN”

11

In term of public transportation The purpose idea of bring in the hyperloop lane to Beirut and the transit hub is to connect the whole middle east countries for easy connectivity for example :China with its Belt and Road Initiative.

“NERVE SYSTEM CABLE CAR” For the cable car, to create better transportation, the cable car is proposed to allow easy connection in all areas, to be able for sight seeing and create something new in the city

“SUSPENDED BIKE LANE” To fix this problem and agree to all this parties , I purpose the idea of elevated/ suspended bike lane and to links all of the of the city major Residential , Entertainment, Business districts / area with enter and exit on ramps. The bike path would solved the problems of the government and driver.

12

PROGRAM STRATEGIS

In term of renewable energy “SOLAR PANEL PARKING ROOF” I purposed the idea of solar panel roof to take full advantages of the Mediterranean climate , where solar energy can transfer to electrical energy to charge the battery power cars

“BLADELESS TURBINE ” Bladeless Turbine is located next by the yatch docking area where it is able to generate energy through the sea wind to create a sustainable energy to power the light around the area

“WATER RESEARCH AND TOWER CENTRE” To solve the water problem in Beirut :Water generated from the machines to generate seawater to fresh water and keep in this container for the Beirut resident and for the building in my chosen site

The transportation approach from the main new design road and connect a by using the concept of in and out , and pass by the building that have relationship with the Design Building

SITE CONTEXT 3D “GREEN POCKET & LANDSCAPE”`

Since the site is bold with any green spaces, The parks and garden are focus mainly at the building surrounding area. With pedestrian and bicycle lane going into the site itself

“SUSTAINABLE ENERGY & WATER CONTROL”`

Bladeless wind turbine is located mostly at the west sides of the site as the studies of wind path is identify most coming from the west site. Hence the location is the best to get the maximize wind .

20

CONTEXTURAL STUDY

21

The idea behind the design building is to build a Transit Hub for the people of Beirut in term of Land, Air and Sea transportation The site that I chosen is for my further design is the CORRESPONDENCE LINK where the site is in a trapezium mix rectangular shape. The north point is facing to the sea view. There is two mainly view to focus on which it the sea view and the city urban view. The building for my semester 5 design that I wanted to purpose is Transit Hub, the reason I chosen this particular site is to focus on 2 main view elements which the sea view facing the north, west and east to focus on sea transportation which is the : Cruise ship, ferry , boat , yatch and the hyper x landing platform. The land view is focus through the city which is for the land transportation : Buses , Hyperloop and Cable Car.

CONCEPT & PROCESS FEATURES CLASSES / LAYER

To understand the connectivity and the different types of transportation mods , trying to connect the road or the transportation routh link to connect in one spaces or area

To investigate the flows and movement around the Port of Beirut site and using flows of movement to bring to the building intention

To create green pocket around the empty area for providing ample views towards the sea and city view. To use this as an advantages of park scape for human activity advantages

22

CONCEPT & PROCESS “SPOKE AND HUB”

By using the spoke and hub concept paradigm that apply towards my building strategies which form of transport optimization in which will create an organize routes as a series of “spoke” that connect to the outlying points to the central “hub” where it is applied in the system.
