INTRODUCTION Part of the Bachelor program in Landscape Architecture at Universiti Teknologi MARA is to follow 4 to 6 months landscape architecture practical training. This practical training can be pursued either at a design office, a governmental organization of a t a NGO. And the aim of practical training is to have a working period and working experience outside the academic university environment in addition to allow the student to be expose to the professional working world in the domain of landscape architecture. My internship started officially on the 5th September 2016 and this report shall give an overview learning goals before the start of my practical training, as well as an insight onto the internship process and design part, a description of the company and most importantly on illustration of the projects I was involved on within Urban Garden Design Sdn. Bhd. Learning goals/ objective : • Expose me to the landscape architecture practical work procedures and to improve my problem solving skills • Working in a multi-disciplinary environment to improve my communication skills and to cooperate with different professional backgrounds. • Exposing and familiarizing the office organization and structure in a coordinated environment • Upgrading my self-reliance and understanding a project work flow and situation from the beginning till finish.

ABOUT URBAN GARDEN DESIGN Acknowledgement To start, I am very thankful for the opportunity of doing my practical training with Urban Garden Design SDN. BHD as the experience is really new and opened my eyes to learn and participate in professional development regarding the landscape architecture industry. Meeting wonderful people and professionals from different background and scope of work through this internship period was also a chance for me to learn and adapt to the reality of my work scope and I am truly grateful for the opportunity. The highest acknowledgement of respect goes to Mr. Yeap Soon Lee, Senior Landscape Architect of Urban Garden Design SDN. BHD who have been guiding me throughout the whole internship process in spite of being extraordinarily busy with his duties. Consequently, I want to express my deepest gratitude and special thanks to Mr. Alex C. K. Khaw who although I wasn’t in his guidance for the internship process but he took time out to hear and guide me to the correct path especially regarding horticultural and planting design. Furthermore, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to M. Zulfadli M. Zabidi, Miss Khadijaton binti Othman and Miss The Xin Eu for always guiding me and taking part in useful decision and also giving important advises and detailed guidance for me to successfully complete my internship period. Their advises and guidance were extremely valuable for my study both theoretically and practically and it would be useful after I venture the working path of being a Professional Landscape Architect.
In addition, it is my radiant sentiment to place on record my best regards to Miss Laura ooi, , Contract Director of Flora Art SDN. BHD and Joanne Hum, General Admins, for their careful and precious guidance especially regarding the organization scope of work . Finally, I can conclude that this period of internship as a big milestone from being a student to experience my career development in the industry. I will strive to use these gained skills and knowledge in the best possible way, and I hope to continue cooperation with Urban Garden Design SDN. BHD and Flora Art SDN. BHD in the future.

ABOUT URBAN GARDEN DESIGN introduction Urban Garden Design SDN BHD is a private landscape architectural firm located in the heart of Georgetown, Bangkok Lane. It was conceptualized through the partnership of landscape architect, Mr. Yeap Soon Lee and horticulturist Mr. Alex C. Khaw respectively. It is a multidisciplinary design and consultancy landscape architecture company. The company has established it’s name with numerous project despite still newly found. The company was established in 2013 with the aim of providing design services and consultancy to both the public and the private sector in landscape architecture field. It’s mission is to create innovative and contemporary outdoor spaces that complement the architecture as well as fullfill the unique requirements of our clients. Excelling in all types of development ranging from commercial, community, residential, institutions for local as wells as international client. Their services range from landscape design & development as well as landscape maintenance that includes landscape architecture, master planning, and also site furnishings recommendation. However the Urban Garden design team takes the initiative to be actively involved in all aspects of a project, from design through construction observation, facilitating a hands-on approach to project evaluation. Their office is situated in a heritage two storey building on the 1st floor, sharing the vacinity with Flora Art Sdn.Bhd on the Ground floor. The relationship of both company is in good terms as the company director manages Flora art Sdn. Bhd. By respecting the nature of work and bussiness relationship, the space is fully achieved by both parties.

PROJECTS
Over the course of 18 weeks, I have concluded the projects into two categories which is major and minor involvements. Major involvement consist of major participation from me and the duration of work is longer through out the process.

PROJECT 1 : MIRA RESIDENCE
This project workload was in a simultaneous period with the Prominence Condominium and I continued handling this project through out the the practical training. Mira Residence is a luxury condominium situated at Tanjung Bungah, Georgetown and it has gained OC (Occupancy Certificate). During my period of internship, the progress of Mira Residence was throughout 50 percent till it’s completion as the Submission Plan was already submitted. My task was : Task 1 Preparing a planting plan for the landscape at the Podium area. Task 2 Preparing a landscape conceptual design landscape for the entrance. Task 3 Preparing a planting plan for the basement area including the slide to be presented to client.

Task 1 Preparing a planting plan for the landscape at the Podium and Ground level and also the detail drawing for basement area. The planting selection was selected by Mr. Yeap and was already approved by the client. My task was to prepare the documentation to be sent to the contractor.

3. Product
Preparing a landscape conceptual design landscape for the entrance.
The construction completed on December 2016 and a site inspection was conducted. And I was given the opportunity to visit the completed design.
I was instructed to design a second entrance proposal for the client. The aim of the concept was to design an entrance that is not too prominent with the spaces for the users to wait for pick up. 1. Objective • Design an entrance statement that is not too prominent • Provide waiting area / sitting area 2. Conceptual The design compromise of five steel fencing entrance statement that blends the “MiRA” logo within it accompanied with four 500mm of curved pebble wash seating. After completing the design, a slide proposal was done for the approval of client.

2. Planting Plan
Task 3 Preparing a planting plan for the basement area including the slide to be presented to client. After completing the design proposal for the entrance of MiRA. I was instructed to design the basement area. The design aims to provide green landscape to the parking area. 1. Conceptual design Design intend which is using palm tree that exceed through the 1st floor accompanied with hardy shrubs beneath it. Four planter box was proposed with seating for the users. After that a proposal slide was done for the approval of client.
After the proposal was finalized, a planting plan was conducted. In A1 size, two drawings of trees and shrub was done. The selection of palms and shrub was discussed with the client and I consulted an arborist for the planting specifications.

4. Bill Of Quantity
5. Product
With supervisions of Mr. Yeap, I learned how to produce a softscape Bill of Quantity. There are several key requiremens to complete the BQ for example the planting media, accurate specifications, maintenance fee, signatures and exact amount of fee.
Together with the site inspection for the entrance proposal . We continued the inspection to the basement also. The design was completed with minor changes from the original proposal and the design intend was overall succesful with no defects,

PROJECT 2 : Prominence, Bionic Development
Permai Villa Show Unit is a small project requested by a client. This project is a repeat client from an ongoing project that Urban Garden design has handled before. The aim of this project was to design the landscape of a show unit for the client. The cliient requested a modern and inviting design for potential buyers to be intrigued by. With the guidance of Miss Teh, I was instructed to : Task 1 Preparing a landscape conceptual design
Task 2 Preparing the set out plan, material plan and planting plan.

PROJECT 3 : Permai Villa Show Unit
Permai Villa Show Unit is a small project requested by a client. This project is a repeat client from an ongoing project that Urban Garden design has handled before. The aim of this project was to design the landscape of a show unit for the client. The cliient requested a modern and inviting design for potential buyers to be intrigued by. With the guidance of Miss Teh, I was instructed to : Task 1 Preparing a landscape conceptual design

PROJECT 5 : Ru Yi Orphanage
Urban Garden Design also gives a hand to the needy and participated in many charity works. The company helps what they are able in their field of work which is by help improving the landscapes. One of the charity work done by Urban Garden Design was for the Ru Yi Orphanage located at Mount Erskine in Tanjung Bungah . The aim of this project was to develop a sustainable edible garden for the children of the Orphanage. By providing the space, the children can grow their own crops and lessen the expanses of the orphanage.
