RECREATION issue Activities are an important part of everyone’s lives as they help keep us entertained and connected to other people. Going out to eat at a local restaurant, shopping with friends, and checking out museums and exhibits are all things that students enjoy doing. This issue focuses on everything from the best brunch places in Cincinnati to possible summer activities individuals can be apart of or try out.

Sometimes the struggle of finding new things to do is not knowing what is out there. Our goal is to communicate to people interested in trying new things and going to new places what is out there to do. Experiences are vital to living life. They create excitement, happiness, and curiosity. So try exploring new places and bring your friends or family with you to make the best memories you can make.

We provide information and editorial leadership concerning school, national and world issues. We also provide a public forum for the exchange of ideas and viewpoints and give coverage to newsworthy events directly related to our diverse school population. These viewpoints are purely from the staff of The Leaflet, and not the administration.

Breakfast is... Sugar n’ Spice Cincinnatians have bellied up to the counter at Sugar n’ Spice for more than 75 years. French Crust Café

Taste of Belgium

Chef Jean-Robert de Cavel is synonymous with good food in Cincinnati, so of course his Parisian-inspired café ended up on our list. Go for breakfast favorites like quiche and pain au chocolat, or dine on elegant lunch options like duck leg confit salad and creamy chicken soup.

With each waffle baked individually in a specialized cast iron press, the food at Taste of Belgium is taken very seriously. This is a restaurant of Belgian-inspired eateries that take American classics and “Belgianize” them.

Scrambler Marie’S

Sleepy bee Café

Scrambler Marie’s offers breakfast food items that contain only fresh ingredients. Staying away from carton eggs, they crack their own eggs themselves. In addition, they make their pancake batter from scratch, not powder.

Sleepy Bee is a charming addition to the Oakley dining scene. And since the owners are committed to serving local, pesticide-free options, you’ll find new items on the menu all the time—including plenty of gluten free and vegan choices. With a second location now open in Blue Ash, there’s so much more to love. Get there early (like, before 10 a.m.) to beat the crowds.

Around cincinnati

The Echo This unassuming spot in Hyde Park is the brunch go-to for East Siders, and you will be hard pressed to find an open table on any given morning (but do not lose hope: turnover is quick). We keep going back for the Belgian Bird breakfast sandwich, Oktoberfest omelet, and the chicken feta chopped salad—and the phenomenal, friendly staff that makes you feel like you are part of the family. Best places to go shopping target The clothing section of the store is fairly high quality for a multidepartment chain store and is always well stocked. As spring and summer come around, shop in the swimsuit and warm weather section for affordable but still fashionable choices.

kenwood towne center A popular favorite for SHS students due to its convenient location and multitude of stores. The mall includes many different types of stores, ranging from clothing to technology to home furnishings and more.

12

Cincinnati Premium Outlets The shopping center has over 100 stores. The mall has outdoor walkways and a variety of stores, including designer stores where you can purchase products at discount prices that are difficult to find elsewhere, such as Coach, J Crew, and Michael Kors.

Rookwood Commons Home to 70 stores and restaurants, Rookwood incorporates large retail franchises with more local retailers. One popular store that draws visitors to the shopping center is Joseph BethBooksellers, a large bookstore that holds popular book signings and other events.

Do not lose sight of how others can influence your buying decisions. This phenomenon is often referred to as “group-level consideration, meaning that the group, not you, establishes the spending norms and defines what is acceptable.

Do not let the store seduce you. Retailers operate on the theory that the quickest way to our credit cards is through our senses. These so-called atmospherics entice us so we linger longer and spend more, but they will not improve the value of the merchandise.

how to shop smarter

Some psychologists say that most of us fall into one of two categories: Low self-monitors are not too concerned with social feedback and make purchases based on their preference for a product, while high self-monitors buy to fit in. In general, you will make smarter purchases if you stick to your shopping temperament. Ignore these thoughts and quite a few buys will never make it out of your closet.

Indulge your needs. Narrowly defined, the only things we really need are food, clothing, and shelter. But there are other needs that relate to our emotional wellbeing. Self-reward is not a crime; just stick within your budget.
