ZARA, 12 YEARS OPHTHALMOLOGY Zara was admitted to the Hospital when she suffered a particularly serious nosebleed and her eye began to swell up. She was diagnosed with peri-orbital cellulitis, a rare and potentially dangerous infection of the eye tissue, as a result of a nasty sinus infection. She needed immediate surgery to drain the build-up of fluid below and behind her eye, across her nasal passage and through her cheek, or risk losing her eyesight. Zara’s three hour long operation to drain fluid from the area closest to her brain was successful, and she was sent home on a course of antibiotics. “We were so impressed with the fantastic facilities at Sydney Children’s Hospital. You just can’t put a price on good health, and I am so grateful to the Infectious Diseases, Ophthalmology and Ear Nose and Throat teams for treating my daughter and saving her vision,“ said Zara’s mum, Juliana.

CONOR, 11 YEARS CYSTIC FIBROSIS As a baby, Conor was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, a lifelong condition that affects the lungs and the digestive tract. He is a long-term patient of the Hospital, taking regular medication and doing physiotherapy to keep him happy and healthy at home. A few times a year, he has to spend time on the ward being treated for chest infections and digestive problems. With the help of the Hospital, Conor can manage his condition and stay well. “Every time we come to the Hospital we know that Conor is in safe hands, and that when we leave, thanks to the Hospital team Conor feels so much better,“ said Conor’s mum, Linda.

Cate, 5 years Cerebral Palsy Cate’s mum, Lisa, became concerned when her little girl was about to turn two and still hadn’t learned to walk. Cate was diagnosed with a mild form of cerebral palsy, spastic diplegia, which affects the lower extremities of her body and resulted in abnormally tight muscles and a turned-in gait. Cate began immediate treatment at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick to manage her condition and received a lot of intervention to allow her to walk. Cate’s happy and resilient nature means that she takes the challenges of her treatment in her stride. ”Cate’s condition will need to be managed for the rest of her life, so the people caring for her at the Hospital really do make a big difference to our family. We don’t know what her health will look like in the future, but we’re happy knowing that Sydney Children’s Hospital is here to look after her,“ said Lisa.

Illyana, 5 years genetic condition Five year old Illyana has been treated at the Hospital since 14 months of age. Illyana was born with a rare genetic condition which causes her to suffer from a variety of health problems and requires ongoing care. From their home in Coffs Harbour, Illyana and her mum Amy have travelled to the Hospital many times over the years to be treated by numerous teams, who have all become close to their hearts. “It’s the people at Sydney Children’s Hospital that help to make this experience so much easier. I will never forget how lucky we are to be treated at the Hospital. I am so grateful towards the wonderful staff who care for Illyana; without them, I don’t know where we would be,” said Amy.

Ali, 3 years epilepsy Three year old Ali was born with severe Epilepsy, suffering up to 50 seizures a day. At just five months old, Ali underwent a functional hemispherectomy, a major, complex and rare surgery where one third of her brain was removed in an attempt to eliminate the seizures. Since the operation, her brain has rebuilt itself, finding new paths for brain waves to control her speech and movement. By the time she is five years old, her brain function will be the same as any other child her age. “Thanks to the surgery, she’s right on track. We’re watching her grow more and more every day,” said her mum Amy.

Ezekiel, 2 years respiratory When Ezekiel was born prematurely with chronic lung disease, his parents knew that his first few months would be very hard for the family. “We spent two and a half months in the Intensive Care Unit while our tiny baby was battling for his life needing around the clock breathing support,” said mum, Madeleine. After only two months at home, they were back at the Hospital again for nine months as doctors tried to get the lung disease under control with ongoing medication, ventilation and more dark days spent in Intensive Care. Now, Ezekiel can breathe on his own and enjoyed his first holiday to visit his cousins in Queensland. “It’s amazing to see him grow and get stronger everyday,” said Madeleine “We owe it all to the life-saving work of the Hospital.”

The Hospital’s expert medical staff touch the lives of more than 315,000 critically ill and injured children every year through the Hospital’s Inpatient, Outpatient, Emergency and Outreach services. Our award-winning, world class Hospital is a leader in its field and continues to work to improve the treatment of, and care for, this and future generations of sick children.

Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation fully aligns itself with the core aim of the Hospital – to care for the state’s children: first, foremost and for the future. Our number one priority is to provide significant financial assistance to Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. As the principal fundraising body for the Hospital, the Foundation works with individuals, businesses and organisations in the community to support the Hospital. Over the past three years, the Foundation has contributed more than $15 million to assist the Hospital. • Our Hospital was established in the 1870s - that’s almost 140 years of healthcare for kids • Over 15,000 children are admitted to Sydney Children’s Hospital each year • 24 children undergo surgery at our Hospital every day

• 1,748 staff work tirelessly to provide the best care for our children • 758 dedicated people volunteer to help the Hospital and our fundraising efforts • This year, 36,719 children went through the doors of our Emergency Department • Almost 75% of our patients live outside our local area, including many from rural NSW • We provide over 600 outreach services and some 13,000 hours of clinical care to patients living in rural and regional NSW • 700 children receive specialised, around the clock care in our Intensive Care Unit each year • Up to two litres of bubbles are used every day by our play therapists to distract and settle children during procedures

Jack Ford, Chairman Despite relatively tough conditions for fundraising during the 2010/11 financial year, $6.7 million was transferred by the Foundation to the Randwick campus of the newly created Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, representing a 36.7% increase year on year. This money will help improve clinical services, train 21 paediatric Fellows and purchase numerous items of essential equipment necessary to keep our campus in front of the curve in its mission of saving and changing the lives of our state’s children. As I write, the first sod has just turned in the construction of the new Clinical Services Building (CSB) on Hospital Road. With a projected completion date in early 2013, this building will provide a much needed facility for vital paediatric care across a range of disciplines including brain injury rehabilitation, child protection, respiratory, mental health and general surgery. Further information on the CSB appears on page 30. The CSB commitment will be the single largest

one in our history, and we will soon be asking for your help in raising up to $15 million that we have agreed to contribute to the project. During the year, we welcomed the new CEO of the Network, Elizabeth Koff, onto our board, as well as Dr Matthew O’Meara, head of the Hospital’s Emergency Department. Richard Alcock, Terry Clout and James Greet were among our retirees, and we thank them for their contributions. Thanks also to our staff, again ably led by our CEO Adam Check. Most importantly, thanks to you, our donors, for your financial support. We are conscious that competition for fundraising dollars is increasing, and we value the trust and confidence you have placed in us with your funds. Signs from worldwide financial markets are, at best, concerning; we have set ourselves challenging targets for the 2011/12 year, and it will only be with your continuing support that we will meet them.

Jack Ford is a lawyer and consultant to the media industry. His clients include Telstra Corporation, the TV1/Sci-Fi Partnership and the City of Sydney. He is a director of Ignite Media Brands and deputy chair of AVCS. He was previously a partner at Blake Dawson and a senior executive at Sony Pictures in Australia. Jack is a member of the Foundation’s Audit and Finance Committee.

Skye Leckie has been in public relations and marketing for over 20 years, working primarily for a national retail chain and subsequently running her own public relations firm, Skye Macleod Enterprises, consulting to various companies on marketing. Skye has been on the highly successful Gold Dinner Committee for 14 years and was the Chairman of the Committee for three years. Skye is a Member of the Taronga Park Zoo Foundation and supports the Chris O’Brien Cancer Centre at Camperdown.

Chris Jordan is the Chairman of Partners for the NSW office of KPMG and is the Chairman of the Board of Taxation, an advisory body to the Federal Treasurer. He is a Board Member of the Bell Shakespeare Company and a member of the Audit & Risk Committee of the Art Gallery of NSW. Chris is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Taxation Institute of Australia. Chris is Chair of the Foundation’s Audit and Finance Committee.

Simon Hickey In May 2007, Simon Hickey was appointed Chief Executive of Qantas Frequent Flyer and is responsible for establishing the Loyalty business as a separate segment within the Qantas Group. Previously he was the Head of Group Strategy after joining Qantas Airways in 2004. Between 2001 and 2004, Simon was Chief Financial Officer for Lend Lease Americas. Simon is currently a director of Air Pacific Limited, flag carrier of Fiji. Simon is a member of the Foundation’s Audit and Finance Committee.

In September 2010, Elizabeth Koff was appointed Chief Executive of the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network. Previously, Elizabeth held a number of senior roles in the NSW health system, including Director of Population Health, Planning and Performance for the South Eastern Sydney Illawarra Area Health Service (SESIAHS) in 2005, and Director of Clinical Operations for SESIAHS in 2007. Elizabeth holds a Master in Public Health and commenced her health career as an Allied Health professional.

Duncan Makeig is the Group General Counsel, External Relations & Sustainability Director of Lion Pty Limited. He is the Lion representative Director on the Board of Bevchain (Linfox joint venture) and Chairman of Heineken Lion. Duncan has been practising law in Australia, New Zealand and the USA for over 25 years.

Justin is the Chairman of Pie Networks Ltd, Deputy Chairman of Quickflix Ltd and Non Executive Director of Tabcorp Holdings Ltd. He is also Chairman of the National Basketball League and a board member of the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network and of Basketball Australia. He was Group Managing Director at Telstra BigPond, CEO of The Microsoft Network and of OzEmail. He is a past board member of the SA Economic Development Board and a past President of the Internet Industry Association.

Dr Matthew O’Meara is a paediatric emergency physician and is the Director of Emergency at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. He began his paediatric training at the Hospital in 1989 and was appointed as staff specialist in 1995. He has been an advocate for the emergency care of children through roles in the Greater Eastern and Southern NSW Child Health Network, NSW Ministerial Taskforce on Emergency Care and Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Kathy Shand is the former Publisher of the Australian Jewish News and has been involved in media and publishing for over 20 years. She is a past Board Member of the Royal Hospital for Women’s Foundation and the Steering Committee of the RPA Foundation, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Since completing her Master of International Relations she has been working at the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney.

Prof Les White was appointed as the inaugural NSW Chief Paediatrician in September 2010. He is the former Executive Director of Sydney Children's Hospital (1995–2010), Convenor of the Greater Eastern and Southern NSW Child Health Network (2001– 2010) and the John Beveridge Professor of Paediatrics (2005-2010). In 2007 he received an Order of Australia award for service to medicine, medical administration and the community in the field of paediatrics.

Term of office: June 2004 – October 2010 Richard Alcock is the Managing Director of Investment Banking at Merrill Lynch International (Australia) Limited. He is a former Senior Partner, Head of Governance, and Chairman of the Ethics Committee at Allens Arthur Robinson, Lawyers. Richard is also a Governing Board Member of Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, a Director of The University of New South Wales Foundation Limited, and a Director of Art Exhibitions Australia Limited.

Term of office: June 2005 – September 2010 James Greet is CEO of Mindshare Australia. James’ extensive media industry experience spans over 25 years at leading media and advertising agencies across the globe, including the UK, China and Australia.

Term of office: July 2008 – October 2010 Terry Clout is the Chief Executive of South Eastern Sydney Illawarra Health, taking up the position in October 2007. From 2004, Terry headed the Hunter New England Area Health Service. Terry is an experienced Senior Health Administrator, with past roles including Director Operations and Deputy CEO of the former Illawarra Area Health Service and Area Director of Corporate Services at the former South Western Sydney Area Health Service.

Adam Check, CEO SYDNEY CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL FOUNDATION It is fitting that the theme of this year’s Annual Report is THANK YOU, for it is you – our incredibly generous and staunch supporters – who have made this past year the most successful in the history of Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation. Thank you! While we continued to positively impact on the lives of sick and critically ill children right across New South Wales, we also laid the platform for our most significant capital works project to date – the majority of funding of the Hospital’s new Clinical Wing to be completed in 2013. This wing will make a tremendous difference to the operations of our wonderful Hospital, not to mention the precious lives of children and adolescents under our care. As always, we will require your ongoing support to ensure this vital project is delivered on time and without compromise so, in advance of any support you lend, thank you. With such an audacious project in front of us, I want to reflect on this year and all those people who made 2010/11 such a tremendously successful one for our Hospital.

Adam Check was appointed Chief Executive in January 2008. He has worked in a variety of senior roles and been an advisor to a number of leading non-profit and private sector enterprises including Red Cross, St Vincentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Hospital, The Millennium Foundation and the State Library of NSW Foundation. Adam has two young daughters and is passionate about his role and the impact of the Foundation on the health and wellbeing of children.

Rebecca Havas began work at the Foundation in 2005 and in October 2008, she became Head of Fundraising. Rebecca holds a Science/ Law degree from the University of NSW and previously worked at corporate law firm Minter Ellison. Coming from a philanthropic family, Rebecca has a passion for fundraising and finds her role extremely rewarding and fulfilling.

Edward Wales joined the Foundation as Finance Manager in May 2010. Edward has worked as a qualified Chartered Accountant, as well as working in a variety of senior finance roles with large US multi-nationals such as The Gillette Company, and The Seagram Company with their operations in New Zealand, USA and Australia. Edward also spent three years at the State Library of NSW as Accountant Operations. He is excited to be working for a highly motivated and professional not-for-profit organisation.

Kate Meikle joined the Foundation team in 2005 and was appointed to the Communications Manager role in 2007. Before this she worked in TV production, as well as media management for a national not-for-profit organisation. Kate graduated from the University of NSW with a BA (Media and Communication) in 2003 and is currently studying a Master of Arts in Communication Management at UTS. Kate is passionately committed to building the Foundationâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s brand awareness in the community.

Sally Long joined the Foundation as the Manager, Operations, People & Culture in 2005. Prior to this Sally worked for global investment bank Goldman Sachs as Vice President Corporate Services, working in the Hong Kong, Tokyo, London and Sydney offices. Sally holds a Business Diploma from the Metropolitan Business College, Sydney. Sally has two young daughters, and thrives on working in a children related environment.

Elizabeth Koff, CHIEF EXECUTIVE Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network `Thank you’ is a fitting theme for this years annual report, as it expresses the sentiments of the many children, families and staff who attend and work at our Hospital. Every year, more than 36,000 children present to our Hospital’s Emergency Department. While many go home within a matter of hours, more than 17,000 children are admitted for more intensive and often life-saving treatment. Caring for children can bring its challenges, however, our longstanding motto of Children First and Foremost remains at the heart of our work. I am privileged and incredibly thankful to work alongside a team of staff who are experts in their field and who are passionate and committed to caring for some of our State’s youngest and most vulnerable. As a hospital, we are extremely thankful for the generous support we receive from the community. Our work would not be possible without you. There is currently

no better example of what we can achieve together than the Hospital’s new Clinical Services Wing. The Foundation has pledged an incredible $15 million towards the development of this new five storey wing, which once complete, will result in a bigger and better hospital for our kids. In addition to freeing up space in the existing building, the new wing will house a number of critical health services, including an eight bed Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit, a Child Protection Unit, a Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre, a Surgical Day Unit, a Family Centre and a Respiratory Department. The health outcomes of current and future generations of children is reliant on the experts we trust to care for our children and the partnership we as a Hospital share with the community. With a new $28 million Clinical Services Building, we can continue to uphold our vision of providing excellent health care to children: first, foremost and for the future. When our new Building opens in early 2013, it will include: • Four levels on a 1,220m2 footprint • Key purpose-built facilities and best practice services, including: – Brain Injury and Cerebral Palsy Rehabilitation Unit – Respiratory Medicine Outpatient Service – Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit – Short-stay Surgical Unit – Shared Therapies Unit – Child Protection Unit – New Family Facility • 30 additional beds

The new Building will also have significant clinical benefits for our patients, such as: • consolidation and co-location of multidisciplinary services resulting in improved patient flow; • improved infection control; • ease of congestion in existing facilities; and • continuing to meet internationally recognised standards of care achieved to date The Foundation has committed $15 million to the development with the NSW Government contributing the balance, an arrangement which will ensure the new Building is built on time and without compromise to the Hospital’s service to our community. GOLD WEEK TELETHON 2011 On Monday June 13, the 2nd Gold Week Telethon for Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation was broadcast from 9am to 4.30pm live on Channel Nine. Thanks to the generosity of the community, this year’s Gold Week Telethon raised an impressive $1.68 million! The money will go towards the purchase of vital equipment and services across a range of areas in the Hospital including Surgery, Emergency, and the Intensive Care Unit. Highlights 2010-2011 Silver Party’s Record-Smashing Success On a balmy February evening, Sydney’s hottest young A-listers enjoyed the fun and frivolity of the 11th Silver Party at Woolloomooloo’s Otto. Top chefs from restaurants collaborated to serve up the finest canapés, including Otto’s Richard Ptacnik, Matt Moran (Aria), Michael Moore (Summit), Peter Gilmore (Quay), Darren Simpson (La Scala) and Warren Turnbull (Assiette). Thanks to the generosity of the guests, the hard working Silver Committee, event patron Paspaley and numerous sponsors, this glittering night raised a record $325,000 for our Emergency Department.

Day celebrates the success of our partnership - the commitment, generosity, energy and enthusiasm of BIG W associates, management committee and the store teams. 40 representatives from the NSW BIG W fundraising stores and Head Office visited the Hospital to see firsthand the difference their support makes. They also enjoyed meeting Kelly Latimer and her son Blake, whose life was saved by the cardiac team at the Hospital.

Gold Week With five Gold Week Events in prominent restaurants around Sydney, a regional bike ride, designer singlet exhibition, over 300 Gold lunches and mufti days held across the state, and the Gold Week Telethon as the grand finale – Gold Week 2011 was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who played their part in helping to raise $1.68 million. There are so many highlights from this special time, including:

• The sold-out Gold Events which provided great food, wine and fun, hosted by fabulous MCs from Channel Nine. • The inaugural Richmond to Randwick one-day bike ride challenge. 36 riders joined the Onya Bike 4 Kids team who had been riding across regional NSW on their final leg into Randwick. • The amazing philanthropic and caring spirit of kids across the state who donned gold hats, t-shirts and jewellery and held a Gold Coin Mufti Day at school. Hats off to Clovelly Public School who raised $1,174, and were featured on the Gold Week Telethon! • The 10 day Marquise Designer singlet fundraiser held at Westfield Bondi Junction. This collaboration saw Australian designers come together to create a beautiful collection of framed and ready to wear Marquise designer singlets.

Regatta Sets Sail The Rotary Club of Sydney Cove held their 16th annual Charity Regatta on November 12. It was a great day on Sydney Harbour, with the Southern Swan’s pirate ship joining the Regatta with families from the Hospital onboard. Fun was had by all, and a fantastic $91,000 was raised to purchase insulin pumps for children with diabetes.

Harvey Norman Gives a Smile On the weekend of 19-20 February, Harvey Norman held their inaugural Give a Smile Weekend, raising $90,000 in support of our Cancer Centre. 56 stores across NSW and ACT participated in the fundraiser, asking customers for a gold coin donation in return for a family photo taken in-store. Harvey Norman also donated a percentage of all sales on the weekend to the Hospital.

ArtEx – Art Experience workshops This year the Art Program launched a new initiative – the ArtEx Program. Short for “Art Experience”, this project brings amazing artists into the Hospital to run art education workshops with patients and students from the Hospital School. ArtEx provides an invaluable opportunity to integrate art into the daily healthcare services of our Hospital, working in partnership with Play Therapy and the Hospital School. This year 10 ArtEx workshops were thoroughly enjoyed by patients and invited public school students, who were given a very special art education experience under the guidance of a professional artist. We’d like to thank this year’s invited artists for giving their energy, creativity and time and providing patients with a window to an external world that is creative, educational and inspiring!

New look SCHF Gift Shop The SCHF Gift Shop got a makeover this year! With a new doorway, signage and merchandise display, the shop looks bigger and brighter than ever before. Visit us at the Barker Street entrance on Level 0.

Don’t Blame it on the SunSCHine! Party-goers welcomed the beginning of summer on the lawns of Nielsen Park at the inaugural sunSCHine on the beach cocktail party. Trading stilettos for sunSCHineinspired Havaianas, the crowd enjoyed the relaxed evening, hosted by MCs Peter Morrissey and Laura Csortan.

Comedy for Kids The 5th annual Comedy for Kids put on a huge night of laughs on 20 May at the Randwick Racecourse. After performances by three of Australia’s leading comedians, the 900-strong crowd was keen to dance the rest of the night away to the number one ABBA cover band Bjorn Again. The mood was light but the guests

Gold Dinner

On the day of the Telethon, Hall of Champions partner Kids with Cancer Foundation pledged an impressive $1.5 million over five years to build a Child Cancer Research Centre. This new clinical research centre will be built within current available space at the Hospital and will focus on the negative effects of cancer. The research will encompass implementation of drug discovery, therapeutic trials, ethics, outreach clinical and support care, and prediction and prevention of health problems in one centralised space. Having this dedicated Centre will ensure that our trained researchers are able to perform their essential research in close proximity to the treating patients. This is an important and exciting

More than 200 invited guests gathered at John Symond’s home at Point Piper on 9 June to celebrate the 14th annual Gold Dinner, proudly supported by NAB Private Wealth. Hosted by MC Mark Ferguson, The Gold Dinner broke from tradition, with an exciting new format and surprise entertainment by Scot Finnie, Jack Vidgen, Guy Sebastian, Cle Morgan from Hairspray – the Musical, and Bernadette Robinson. Three quarters of a million dollars was raised in support of our Trauma Service.

Sydney Kids Film Fest Sydney’s newest dedicated children’s film festival kicked off the spring school holidays with a jam packed program, from 25 – 27 September at Hoyts Entertainment Quarter. The Film Fest featured a wide array of new and well-loved local and international

children’s films and also short films created by some of our patients. We were thrilled to have David Wenham open the festival, alongside Film Fest Ambassador, Natarsha Belling.

Sell & Parker’s Car Crush Tours Hall of Champions partner Sell and Parker gave our families a very special treat! On November 19, a group of patients, their families and staff attended the annual Car Crush Tour at their Blacktown scrap metal recycling plant. This special tour was repeated in May especially for four year old car enthusiast and cancer patient, Koby and his two brothers. The boys loved seeing the action and helping crush up cars, which was filmed as part of the Gold Week Telethon. Thank you Sell and Parker for your continued generosity throughout our partnership – it’s days like these that are so precious for our families.

St Spyridon Golf Day Anniversary In September, we were honoured to celebrate St Spyridon Golf Day’s 20th anniversary. This special Golf Day is dedicated to raising money for SCH, raising over $25,000 every year. A number of areas at the Hospital have been touched by St Spyridon’s generosity, which has helped fund an Endocrinology Fellowship position.

Touched by Olivia On May 21, 650 supporters danced the night away `Viva Las Vegas’ style at Touched by Olivia Foundation’s annual Butterfly Ball. This marvellous event raised a huge total of $185,000 for the Touched by Olivia Vascular Birthmarks Clinical and Research Fellowship. Launched in 2009, the Fellowship funds two key dedicated experts for three years, including a paediatric dermatologist and researcher.

Amber Affair On 26 August, more than 500 friends of the Hospital raised $70,000 at Amber Affair, an evening of boutique beer and wine tasting at James Squire Brewhouse. Our enthusiastic guests not only enjoyed their beer, wine, and nibblies, but also showed their good spirits by bidding hard in the auction, buying up big on raffle tickets and dropping their business card in a massive lucky draw.

Art Exhibitions continue to grow 44 exhibitions were held in the Hospital this year, and the Hospital environment was greatly enhanced by the diversity and quality of the artworks. This amazing turnover of high-quality art is largely due to the support and generosity of our major partners: the Friends of the National Art School, the College of Fine Arts (UNSW) and select leading commercial galleries such as Stills Gallery and Art 2 Muse.

Diamond Event Dazzles It wasn’t just the French champagne that sparkled on 14 October during the inaugural Diamond Event! Dazzling diamonds drew a crowd to the Ivy to enjoy a cocktail party where the chance to win beautiful pieces of diamond jewellery was on the menu! MC John Eales, a performance from Deni Hines and $85,000 raised for the Emergency Department made it a night to remember.

Little Lights – Lights up our Lives Our first ever Little Lights Christmas Appeal launched in December 2010, engaging old friends and new in the community by giving them the opportunity to interact with the Little Lights of our Hospital - our patients. Supporters were encouraged to make a donation and to create an inspiring message which were then posted on our digital Christmas tree or at the Hospital for patients, families and staff to share.

M•A•C World AIDS Day

We were honoured to be the charity recipient for a special preview performance of the awardwinning musical Mary Poppins on April 30. The Capitol Theatre was sold out and the atmosphere was Supercalifragilistic! The event raised $123,000.

On September 16, Champions for Children was hosted at the National Art School in Darlinghurst. At this annual event we thank and acknowledge our supporters for their ongoing dedication to our Hospital. The evening was also a wonderful opportunity for our major supporters to meet each other and hear updates about the Hospital. This year’s presentation highlighted Allen Arthur Robinson’s 13 years of support of the Neurology Fellowship program. We were also delighted to induct four new Hall of Champions supporters: Humpty Dumpty Foundation; The Turnbull Family; Variety, The Children’s Charity (NSW); and Westfield.

M•A•C Cosmetics are a major supporter of Positive Kids Camp Goodtime and keeping true to M•A•C Cosmetics’ long-standing dedication to HIV/AIDS, on December 1, 14 makeup artists and staff members from M•A•C Cosmetics volunteered at the Hospital in a company-wide effort to commemorate World AIDS Day. The staff brought immense joy to our patients, parents and staff by giving them gorgeous makeovers. The volunteer initiative was part of a worldwide effort including nearly 1,000 M•A•C employees in 23 countries and was organised to complement the staff’s commitment to the global fight against HIV/AIDS.

Rio Tinto supports Back to School Program This year, Rio Tinto Aboriginal Fund came on board with a three year partnership to fund the Teenage Aboriginal Mothers’ Back to School Program. This exciting new partnership will ensure the continuation of the program, which is vital to improving the health of teenage Aboriginal parents and their children, and empowering them with continuing educational opportunities, health awareness and parenting skills. Based in the La Perouse Community, having the support of a philanthropic organisation like Rio Tinto has made a very real difference to these young mothers.

Our volunteers Our volunteers have big hearts and big smiles. Some come to us as generous individuals wanting to make a difference. Others come with their colleagues under our Corporate Volunteering Program. And others help out by doing community service as part of a high school program. They all play an important role in almost everything we do, and for that we are forever grateful. At our fundraising events, they sell raffle tickets, bucket collect, and spot for auction bidders. In the Hospital, they help out in the BigPond Star CafĂŠ kitchen, cook barbecues for special occasions, decorate the wards for Gold Week, and spend time with our patients to relieve their families for short periods of time. Thank you to all our volunteers for their service to our Hospital family.

Gold Week Telethon Volunteers We had a mammoth turnout of 175 volunteers at the Pinpoint call centre for the Gold Week Telethon 2011 â&#x20AC;&#x201C; the largest gathering of volunteers in the history of the Foundation! Teams of enthusiastic volunteers manned the phone lines for nine hours on Monday June 13, taking 5,887 donation calls from our supporters across NSW. Our call centre volunteers included: Tony, our trusty IT guy; Dot, a ward granny from the Hospital; Lauren, from our wonderful mailhouse iGroup; and Janis, Karen, James and Bob, friends and relatives of Foundation staff.

Children’s Hospital Foundations Australia (CHFA) Children’s Hospital Foundations Australia (CHFA) is the national partnership of five of Australia’s leading Children’s Hospital Foundations, working towards excellence in child health. Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation is the proud NSW partner of this important national alliance. In 2010/11 CHFA grew to its strongest financial position to date.This year, Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation was the beneficiary of $200,000, which was directed to a variety of areas within the Hospital. This year CHFA was joined by new supporters including

Street Commodores Magazine’s `Cruise for Charity’ national event and Gloria Jean’s Coffees `Cappuccino for a Cause’ campaign. Contributions were also made by loyal supporters at BOQ, whose `Banking on our Kids’ campaign is now in its 5th year. CHFA continues to benefit from the support of other long term partners Partylite, Collins Foods Group, Australia Post and AHL. As the CHFA partnership continues to forge ahead, we see great potential in national fundraising opportunities with strong financial outcomes.
