Small Luxury Apartment Project Statement:

The objective of this project is to explore and address the challenges of residential interior design at the compact scale, incorporating issues of ergonomics, human behavior, context, cultural awareness, and special needs. In addition, the project introduces a basic method for approaching the design of a Residential environment.

Client profile:

Husband around 30s that works as a scientific illustrator with a focus on botanical drawings. He collects interesting textiles and tapestries and loves to cook exotic foods. He spends most of his time at home so he wants the space to feel comfortable and homey. He is originally from Lisbon, Portugal so he loves having warm colors such as reds and gold’s. His wife is around the same age and works as a sous chef at a fancy restaurant so she works many late nights. She also loves to cook exotic foods and entertain. She is originally from Boston, Massachusetts so she likes the more upscale feel in her home. They both would like an open floor plan to easily entertain friends and family with a nice kitchen to accommodate their cooking needs.

Concept Statement:

The concept I went with for my clients is a country rustic chic. It combines modern aspects with old rustic aspects giving it a more artistic look. Having the husband from Portugal, it provides the homey feel he’s looking for with the more modern touch that the wife wants. I created an open concept for the main living areas, with a change in floor levels for the separation of space without physically separating the space. I provided lots of wall space for decoration of art and tapestries as well. The bedroom and office are separated from the other spaces, separating the public and private spaces. The master bedroom, master bathroom, and office are all interconnected providing a master suite with a walk in closet.

Rendering Project Project Statement:

The objective for this project is to explore rendering techniques through various views. I was given a floor plan with furniture and kitchen elevations. They were all line drawings with no detail or patterns or color. My objective was to create a modern space that is clean and comfortable. I did this by adding textures to all furniture and flooring, along with shading and highlighting to make the plans and elevations seem realistic.

Luxury Mansion Project Statement: Design A fully functional home for the LaSalle couple (Andre and Iris) and Andre’s mother (Aisha) who is currently undergoing chemotherapy. The objective is to create a private space for the couple as well as a separate space for Aisha that is physically and acoustically private. There must also be a space dedicated to the artwork and achievements that the LaSalle’s have acquired as well as a historical modern interpretation. Their property is located in Wayzata, MN facing woodlands.

Concept Statement: For my design I wanted to have a light airy feel, while still being structured and inviting. Keeping gray paint throughout the house and adding pops of colors such as blue and yellow showed the historical interpretation of Greece. The overall concept for the dining and living rooms are to be much warmer and inviting. Bringing in the warm colors from the outdoors with the rich hardwood flooring yet keeping it modern with the white precise furniture. Glass walls were also important to show the spectacular view of the outdoors. The entry is one of the most important areas of the home.

Retail Store- Ceaseless Project Statement:

The objective of this project is to explore and address the challenges of residential interior design at the compact scale, incorporating issues of ergonomics, human behavior, context, cultural awareness, and special needs. In addition, the project introduces a basic method for approaching the design of a residential environment.

Client profile:

Our Client was Caroline Bailey, a fashion design student here at Iowa State University. She presented us with her clothing line that she was creating called Ceaseless. Ceaseless is a active wear line that demonstrated a lot of geometric shapes and flexibility. Her main focus was to combine fashion, fitness and versatility into one. Her main inspiration came from clothing lines such as Lululemon Athletica and Lucy. Her ideal customer is a woman around the age of 25 who likes to be active in her daily life.

Concept Statement:

Our concept for this space is to emphasize fashion, fitness, and versatility into one. We hope to accomplish this by transforming the space into a natural and industrial environment. We would use jewel tones to reflect the ceaseless clothing line. We plan on incorporating 3 dimensional forms and features that resemble an abstract structure of jewels to areas such as the cash wrap, walls, and displays. This would include forming the structure of the counter tops and displays to show the cohesiveness between the store and clothing line. By using a light color pallet mixed with slightly muted, yet bold colors and materials, we hope to motivate the customer to want to lead a more active lifestyle and to look good doing it as well. Overall, we would like the customer to experience a fresh, simple design which would create an emphasis on the clothing line as the main focal point.
