MULTI MEDIA OFFICE

AXONOMETRIC VIEW

PROJECT DEFINITION:

Is to design an innovative Multi – Media office for Buzzfeed, inc, they are an American Internet media, news and entertainment company with a focus on digital media.

THE SITE:

The site is located in Pondicherry in a site area of 17,000 sq.m. The most significant value of the site is the shimmering blue waters of the Pondicherry Marine beach on one side and the backwaters on the other.

FOURTH FLOOR

THE CHALLENGE:

Was to design a Meta architecture building Meta architecture is architecture using traditional building concepts to modern architectural designs Meta architecture features: • Courtyard • Jali for facade (terracotta) • Stepped well

THE CONCEPT:

THIRD FLOOR

This green land has a rich vegetation and opens up to the urban main road – these two facts became the starting point of the design, and hence lead to the basic strategies of the multimedia office: one is to elevate the main body of the building in order to maximize the open green space on the ground floor and to have an unobstructed view of the beach and backwaters; second is to establish an intimate and interactive relationship with the vegetation while protecting them in the site

SECOND FLOOR

THE FAÇADE:

The façade for the Multimedia office has been done using Terracotta blocks of size 8 X 8 X 2.5 (inches) to form a Jali to emphasize and recognize the building from afar and to create a landmark to the area The use of terracotta blocks gives the façade a ornamental pattern and helps to break the rigid form of the structure and it is also gives the building warmth and character with beautiful, rich, earth tone colors. The façade not only acts as an aesthetical elements but also aids as a shading device for the building while creating interesting shadows within the structure during various times of the day

The completed building is composed by 4 independently suspended structures that are linked by bridges. The 4 suspended volumes stretch themselves horizontally with “Y” or “L” shapes among the old trees It is under the organization of time (or path) that these spaces (room and courtyard) realize an environmental experience where time and space interact. It is a work collaborated by both architecture and nature. 5 pieces of combined steel and concrete walls support the upper structures, they are all covered by reflective stainless steel panels, which contains all the vertical ducts and reflect the surrounding green environment. The essential goal is to establish balanced and dynamic relevance among humans, nature and society

PERFORMANCE ARTS ACADEMY PROJECT DEFINITION:

The project is a proposal to build a performance arts academy in Cubbon Park, Bangalore on a site of 16.6 acres Cubbon Park is a landmark lung area of city, located within the heart of the city in the central administrative area

THE CONCEPT:

The site holds a very dear place in the hearts of the people of Bangalore for its green foliage and vibrant ecosystem The intent of the design was to look for visibility, a beacon in the city and eventually an architecture that speaks aloud The design is powerful and coherent. The ambition was to integrate architecture with a strong synergy between the different parts

THE FORM:

The idea here is to create a form that stands out rather than blend in and has a stark contrast from the surrounding administrative buildings around. The layout of the campus was realized with the greatest care and the association with the surroundings was considered. To create as much green space as possible and to keep the lush greenery of Cubbon Park intact, the building is a single unit rather than multiple buildings which will take up a lot more area This created a sound screen, an intermediary zone and also a visual buffer between the busy traffic axis and the green campus. The limited occupation of the site has its own logic and is based on a vision of social relevance, through this layout; I was able to optimize public visibility. The site given a strong additional public dimension through the provision of maximum greenery and parking spaces The atrium is an important place in the campus. Here the network comes into being, and you strongly and actively relive the space in the build-up of experiences.

SECTION CC’

The site is Located in Hulimavu, Bangalore and is surrounded by commercial, Residential Developments and institutions The most significant value of the site is the shimmering blue waters of Arekere Lake and lush greenery of the area and the project has the ability to become an important node in Bangalore My approach was to analyze the surroundings and the users in order to have a better understanding of the topic

THE CONCEPT:

The concept is to design an artist housing that will also serve as a space for inspiration and will break the barriers between the site and surrounding and will also improve the interaction and communication through the surrounding neighborhood and will act as a major node for the area

SECTION OF APARTMENT The functional elements such as the toilets, storage, utility are grouped in one concrete volume that also connects the floors at the center of the apartment, keeping the intimate spaces private and obstacles to minimum Total number of floors – 12 Residential units – 10 Club house – 2 The Arekere Lake plays a important role, apart from the scenic views something about a waterfront or a lakefront property – the aesthetics, the investment point of view or the sheer serenity of a water body captivate the urban investor In order to preserve the view and proper ventilation of all units placed at a level, with the club house underneath the blocks so that the view is not compromised due to the presence of the trees and landscaping in front of the blocks

MUSEUM PROJECT DEFINITION:

The aim of this project was to design a Museum on a site of 4046 sq m (1 acre) in the city center amongst the urban built environment.

THE CONCEPT

The buildings surrounding the museum site have diverse architectural characteristics, the intent of the building is to be integrated into the landscape without overshadowing the preexisting urban setting on the one hand, while asserting its own unique character on the other, an iconic structure that reflects transparency and openness and generates visual interest at close distant views. The museum is planned to host a variety of different activities: exhibit space, a theater, a restaurant, a gift shop, etc. The activities are diverse in the types of visitor communities they serve, in their operating hours, in their environmental requirements and in their interaction with the urban context. The developed building concept answers the requirements of each specific activity, encouraging undisturbed access for the various communities to their appropriate destinations.

FIRST FLOOR PLAN

Museum - An elongated structure traces the northern and western borderline of the site. The building is divided into two horizontal wings: the floating upper wing hosts the museum spaces and lower sunken wing has the lobby, gift shop, administration and the library The architectural language of the building sets it apart from its backdrop while maintaining continuity in terms of building height and materials with the urban fabric around it Restaurant – A simple and timeless design with a larger diameter on the top floor offers a dynamic, round building. A spacious atrium in the center of the building provides the light, airiness and circulation within the building. The façade of the restaurant is made up of curtain wall with alternate geometrical patterns of solid black panel and colored glass. The restaurant can accommodate 50+ people at a time. Auditorium - The auditorium space is designed to accommodate 20 – 30 people at a time for special screenings, lectures and performances. The shape of the auditorium is designed such that the space below the auditorium could be used for small stalls or for shade.
