The Happy Vagina

AN EMPOWERING GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING YOUR BODY

Mika Simmons

In a world where the vagina is still, too frequently, considered taboo, this book aims to entertain, educate and enlighten its readers

Mika Simmons (host and founder of the popular Happy Vagina podcast) rightly believes the taboo that surrounds talking about intimate health and pleasure is problematic and can lead to a whole host of health issues. Her aim is to smash this stigma for women, and men, by shining a light on the unique and sometimes awkward facts about everything gynecological, allowing a more open dialogue for all.

The book tracks vaginas right through history—from the hysterics of the Victorian era, where semen was thought to have healing properties for women of a nervous disposition, to the modern-day suggestion by actress Gwyneth Paltrow that women give their vaginas a steam “facial.” Covering everything from masturbation, pubic hair, orgasms, contraception, body positivity, and period poverty, this book offers everything women want to know and might be too afraid to ask. Mika’s approachable and witty text is accompanied by punchy, colorful illustrations.

Mika Simmons co-created The Lady Garden Foundation, one of the world’s leading gynecological charities, which has earned endorsements from celebrities including Cara Delevingne, Margot Robbie, and Naomi Campbell. She is advising the UK government on closing the gender health gap and is a co-founder of community support project Mental Health Mates. She has discussed every aspect of women’s sexual health and experiences on her popular podcast The Happy Vagina.
