Checking your answers is part of the learning. Each section of the workbook begins with an easy-to-use Check It! strip. 1. Before beginning the activities, cut out the Check It! strip. 2. As you complete the activities on each page, check your answers. 3. If you ďŹ nd an error, you can correct it yourself.

Keywords A PREFIX is one or more syllables that contain meaning added to the beginning of a word. Here are three that should look familiar: “Pro- means forward, positive, or supporting. “Con- or “com- means with or together. “Re- means again. READ the paragraph. The words in bold are your keywords.

My friends and I started a project to raise money to send to Africa. We were confused about the process of fundraising, so we had a meeting. It was hard to communicate or propose any ideas because we all talked at once. We had to repeat ourselves many times. And Melissa (my best friend) was constantly complaining about how we were doing things. I tried to respect her opinion, but she kept rearranging all our plans. It was a relief when she left for ballet class. After that, we made lots of progress and had great ideas!

HINT: A preďŹ x is usually its own syllable. Also, when a syllable ends in a LONG vowel sound, it usually ends with a vowel, like this: patper. TIP: You usually use “com-â€? when the next letter is “p,â€? “m,â€? or “b.â€?
