CONCEPT The concept focuses on crea ng a new town centre for the wider area. Key to this is a large square on Canada Water Basin, with wider connec ons along the waterfront and to neighbouring parks.
KEY CONNECTIONS
Three tall buildings sit within the square as objects, crea ng a hierarchy of smaller spaces - a central lawn, waterfront, a street and urban woodland. A podium roo op garden is also designed as private amenity space in Phase 1. Phases 2/3 include a series of private and semi-public roo op terraces. TREE PLANTING STRTEGY

PUBLIC REALM (PHASES 2/3) DESIGN DEVELOPMENT The square is similar in propor on to the Basin, re-orienta ng the public realm to this feature and giving prominence to the historical and cultural roots of the area. The central lawn evolved to become gently topographical, bisected with the primary movement route. Steps bring you closer to the basin, and connect to the exis ng canal path walkway. A retail street is framed at the northern edge of the Square, and an urban woodland creates a more serene environment at the south-west edge. Tree plan ng including a series of alignments and clumps, crea ng the structure for the spaces and a number of micro-climates within.

PRIVATE AMENITY (PHASE 1) DESIGN DEVELOPMENT An extensive podium garden sits on top of the Phase 1 building, providing valuable amenity for the residents. It is designed as a seris of rooms, enclosed by hedges and light tree canopies. Each room provides a dierent type of space, from a simple lawn to a rich and slightly exo c woodland room. The plan ng pale e includes na ve mixed hedges, pioneer and na ve hedgerow trees, biodiverse lawn and an understorey of ferns in once instance .

Al Shaqab Hotel & Horse Training Track Doha The Al Shaqab Hotel and Horse training track is an 11 ha luxury development within Educa on City in Doha, Qatar, for Qatar Founda on. ‘The Quadrat Garden’ Jardin de Metis IGF Quebec
This project is a response to a call for proposals for the Interna onal Garden Fes val in Quebec. There was no theme for the gardens, and entry was open interna onally. Worked on design and produc on of compe on entry.
CONCEPT ‘The Quadrat Garden’ transposes the scien fic idea of a quadrat to the prac ce of gardening. In science, a quadrat is used to frame an area of study. The Quadrat Garden defines a small area within the wider Jardins de Me s landscape, thus presen ng the exis ng landscape as an object to study and appreciate, whilst challenging the defini on of a garden. The Quadrat Garden sits in the forest wai ng to be explored; the elegant form an obvious interven on that contrasts with its surroundings. Inverkeithing Botanical Landscape Scotland This project was completed as part of the Masters programme at Edinburgh College of Art - an individual project where we selected and formulated our own site and brief. The focus of the project is on the regenera on of the Inverkeithing Bay area, which is located between the towns of Inverkeithing and North Queensferry in Fife, 11 miles from Edinburgh city centre. The wider bay is post industrial and includes a redundant Paper Mill at the North of the Bay, and the soon to be decomissioned Cruicks Quarry at the South. The drama of the landscape is emphasised. The movement shi s from expanse to enclosure, as you are drawn along from the dal gardens by the bay, along the overland walk on the hill, and enter the bidome on the second level. The experience diers depending on season, dal moment, and me of day. The Quarry, as a man-made obtrusion in a natural landscape, has caused a variety of landscape environments and microclimates to evolve. The ver cality, drama, and shade of the cli ledges at the South are emphasised by plan ng layers at the back of the ledges, forming secluded shade gardens. The basin is allowed to flood slightly, and a defined path network leads the visitor through the basin.

Templehof Airfield Urban Park Berlin
Tempelhof airfield is a recent interna onal design compe on for the transforma on of the airfield into an urban park. This project was completed as part of the Masters programme at Edinburgh College of Art, using the compe on brief as a star ng point. The main aspects of the brief are to provide for the upcoming Interna onal Garden Show in 2017 and to u lise me based strategies in the evolu on of the park.
CONCEPT The concept is to create a flexible spa al organisa on that evolves and reacts over me, and can sustain itself . The main spa al structuring of the site is focused at the edges in order to maintain the unique quality of open wilderness at the heart of the city, but aims to integrate the site into the context and provide for Berliners on a local, city-wide, and na onal level.

POST IGA ABOVE : plots are sown out with meadow flowers and a tree grid planted, becoming an informal patchwork meadow park at the edge of the airfield
EASTERN EDGE: COMMUNITY SPACES
This urban edge has the strongest rela onship to the park, and the community have a need for local ownership of green spaces. Through hos ng the IGA a framework is created for fine-grain adaptable community spaces. These may be programmed, non-programmed, permanent or temporary. Above is a cross sec on through these spaces from the inner parkland to the urban edge; an example scenario of how the programme might develop. PRE IGA, 2012
GREEN STRUCTURE STRATEGY
MEADOW PARK
The tree strategy is an important space defining element on a 2D plane. Exis ng tree typologies are built upon with new planta ons, structuring the edges of the park and integra ng it into the surroundings. The tree nursery at the south of the site is key to the evolu on of the green structure of the rest of the park. TREE NURSERY
SOUTHERN EDGE: HORTICULTURE ENTERPRISE The Southern edge is underused by people; the trainline acts as a barrier and the urban grain is quite industrial. This edge has the opportunity to be the cataly c backbone for the rest of the park - a hor cultural enterprise is established as a crea ve response to the lack of funding, and is integral to the evolu on of the en re park. The trees and plants are used for the IGA and a erwards to provide for the rest of the park, and finally as a self-suďŹƒcient commercial en ty. The outcome is a me-based, internalised evolu on of the greater park structure.
