1951 One of the earliest collective efforts of the International Student Travel Confederation (ISTC) was to provide tailor-made insurance protection for students and young travellers. In 1951, members of the International Association for Student Insurance Services (IASIS) helped develop a unique travel insurance product in partnership with Dutch Insurers, De Goudse. 2004 A year of rapid expansion for IASIS, with an estimated 2 million young travellers covered this year alone. IASIS developed products for diverse and specialist areas of cover such as Au Pair Insurance, and Adventure Travel which recognised the need for higher risk activities and long-term trips.

2006 A retrenchment by De Goudse over their international presence signalled an opportunity for IASIS to re-structure itself and build for the future with a new Preferred Insurance Supplier. That Preferred Supplier was Mapfre Asistencia and they, together with De Goudse and a global network of Insurers, provide a global network of insurance solutions for the IASIS Community.

2007 At the 2007 IASIS AGM in Istanbul, IASIS members adopted a new constitution that enables the association to take a leadership position in the field of insurance services for students, youth and the education community.
