NEW FACILITY INAUGURATED IN BENGALURU TO SUPPORT GROWING CUSTOMER DEMAND
Kennametal India Limited (KIL) announced the launch of its new Metal Cutting inserts manufacturing facility located in its Bengaluru, India campus on 15th November 2022. The facility was inaugurated by Sanjay Chowbey, Vice President Kennametal Inc. and President Metal Cutting Segment, and Vijaykrishnan Venkatesan, Managing Director, Kennametal India Limited. This state-of-the art facility, aligned with Kennametal Inc.’s global modernization program, will support growing demand for Kennametal and WIDIA brand inserts from customers across India and beyond. The event was attended by customers of Metal Cutting in India and our employees.

After a grand unveiling amid celebratory music and a burst of confetti accompanying the ribbon cutting ceremony, the inaugural event held within the new facility took off with the traditional lighting of the lamp ritual by Sanjay and Vijay. This was followed by a melodious recital of “Ganesh Vandana” or a prayer by a well-known music group. Then Sanjay addressed the audience by sharing how Modernization at its core is about bringing value to our customers, and that’s exactly what we are doing with our new inserts facility in Bengaluru.
Vijay spoke about how the new inserts facility deploys state-ofthe-art equipment and lean processes to help us innovate and meet the needs of diverse and high growth market segments in India, while integrating best-in-class environmental, health and safety practices right from the planning stages to ensure safe and sustainable operations.
Bhaskara Rao, Vice President Manufacturing and Factory Manager, MCDF shared a presentation showcasing overall capabilities of the plant followed by an overview of the value for customers by Prashant Shetty, Director Sales, MCDG. The customers, along with the Kennametal global team comprising Sanjay, Michael Eiterich, Robert Mercer, Nicholas Piper and Ujjwal Baid were then taken on a brief tour of the plant.
The new facility consolidates inserts manufacturing operations previously housed in multiple production units within the Bengaluru plant and incorporates intelligent manufacturing systems for improved quality, consistency and lead times— while also expanding Kennametal’s capabilities and capacity to support growing demand from other regions. The Company has also invested in training the workforce with the specific skillsets needed to leverage these advanced technologies to their fullest.
