This issue of SYNERGY showcases the lives, accomplishments and successes of Women of Color in North Central Florida. We unveiled this magazine in collaboration with the City of Gainesville's Journey to Juneteenth Celebration. The Journey to Juneteenth acknowledges the fact that enslaved people were freed in Florida on May 20, 1865 and continues the celebration with a culminating event on Juneteenth, which is the date that is most readily recognized as the emancipation of enslaved people in America. We chose to highlight Black women in this edition in honor of the continued sacrifices and endless contributions that they have given to her nation.
