LETTER FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
DEAR FRIENDS,
Welcome to Disney’s The Little Mermaid. We’re so glad you’re here.
I had the good fortune to work with director Melissa Rain Anderson and the amazing folks at 2 Ring Circus seven years ago on our first Mermaid collaboration. Since coming to Syracuse in 2016, it has been my desire to offer this production with these fine folks here at Syracuse Stage. This year, the stars aligned: Melissa was available, Josh and Ben from 2 Ring were available, the rights for the musical were available, and our partners in the Syracuse University’s Department of Drama were up for the challenge of creating musical theatre that soars not just horizontally across the stage floor but also vertically to the very ceiling of the stage house.
This spectacular holiday musical was made possible by our collaboration with the amazing theatre program here at Syracuse University. Department chair Ralph Zito leads a partnership that includes faculty and student artists collaborating at every level of the production. Our relationship with the Department of Drama is unique among our professional theatre peers across the country, and we in Central New York are the richer for it. On behalf of everyone at Stage and the Syracuse University Department of Drama, we hope you enjoy this performance of Disney’s The Little Mermaid!
With warmest regards,
ROBERT HUPP. PHOTO: BRENNA MERRITT.
