explore the North End. This exclusive neighborhood is defined by its older, historic homes, tree lined streets and quaint neighborhoods. The steadiness of the active storefronts and restaurants has created an ongoing community dialogue which allows the district to keep its tight knit neighborhood ties. North End homes were first built in 1878 and feature Queen Ann architecture as well as cottage bungalows. Although some have been restored and renovated, they still maintain their original charm and quaintness. These special streets are filled with children, cycling, dogs walking and couples sharing quality time on the front porch. It feels like a step back in time. A clip from a movie that portrays classic American living. Residents will tell you, “It’s simply the magic of living in Boise’s North End.”

Boise River and western high dessert, it’s no wonder that residents love to enjoy the great outdoors. Biking, hiking, fishing and floating the river are just a few of the favorite pastimes in the “City of Trees.” If you’re looking for some water fun, you won’t have to travel far. A great afternoon float down the river is as close as Barber Park. The Boise River stretches between Barber Damn and Ann Morrison Park which is full of fun and relaxation. You can either rent a kayak, tube, or raft and you’re ready for some gentle waters complimented by gorgeous scenery. The float is approximately 2 hours, no experience necessary and easily navigable for all ages. The surprise destination is a beautiful park with food for purchase, drinks and bathrooms. There is also a shuttle available that makes the adventure round trip. It’s a fabulous way to spend the day with the kiddos or enjoy a romantic afternoon with your
Lower Roaring River The Lower Roaring River Trailhead is about six miles north of the Middle Fork of the Boise River and travels north into the Trinity Mountains. In 2012, the Trinity Ridge Fire burned more than 140,000 acres of the beautiful area. Hike in June when the river rages down the narrow canyon and spring wildflowers bloom on the partially burned hillsides. For a shore hike, venture beside the river 1.6 miles to the bridged crossing of the Roaring River, near the junction with the William H. Pogue Trail.

What’s on tap? In an echo of today’s “buy local” movement, a Boise brewer named John Lemp declared his beer “honest beer” made with “Idaho hops and barley.” He reminded his customers that “the money you spend helps to employ Idaho labor.” That was in 1895, and things haven’t changed much. Genuine Idaho pride is reflected in many of the state’s local breweries whose hallmark of craft beer is innovation. Serious “Craft Kings” interpret historic styles with unique twists, developing new flavor profiles that have no precedent. These beers are made with both traditional and nontraditional ingredients to add distinctiveness. The bonus many brewers boast is “local ingredients,” which makes it harder still to resist! Come support these “Beer Masters” as they often support their community through product donations, volunteerism and sponsorship events.
