JANUARY11th-27th Visit SyscoSpeaks.com to tell us what you think! In a year like no other, it’s more important than ever to share your feedback and help us ensure that regardless of where and how you work, you have a great experience as a Sysco associate. The Sysco Speaks Survey will be open from Monday, January 11, 2020 through the end of the day on Wednesday, January 27, 2020 and will again be presented by Perceptyx at www.SyscoSpeaks.com. It features 55 questions grouped into categories. There are also three open text questions where associates can provide comments in up to three categories that they select. The survey should take 10 - 15 minutes to complete and is a truly global effort – all associates around the world will be invited to participate. Exceptions include contractors and associates with fewer than 90 days of tenure (prior to October 13, 2020). For associates with an email address, the survey is sent via email from Perceptyx and includes an individualized link. Because the link contains individual associate login information, this email should not be shared or forwarded. Associates who do not use an email address can visit www.SyscoSpeaks.com and enter their network ID to access the survey. The survey can be taken from any internet-enabled device, including smartphones and tablets. In most locations, computer kiosks or tablets are made available for field- based associates who may prefer to use a computer and don’t have one available at work or home. The survey is completely confidential, meaning no one at Sysco can see any associate’s individual results.
It’s your turn to speak up! Join associates from around the globe and share your thoughts about working at Sysco.

A MESSAGE FROM AARON HANEY, DIRECTOR, SALES STRATEGY & OPERATIONS Those who know me well know that my happy-place is diving into information and slicing, sorting, filtering it, looking for the best, most effective way to present it to our team for them to use to regain sales or grow new sales. Let me tell you, these past few months have been GREAT for that. Sysco is like baseball – there is a stat for everything. In other roles that I have held with Sysco I had access to fantastic information. Sales and opportunity info. Cost and pricing info. How could it get any better? Then in this role, I was given access to the NPD data… Mind Blown. Game changing information – Share by segment, area, cuisine type and so much more! That was it. It couldn’t get better. I was able to take this info and build the Item Groupings not Purchased reporting that I run for the Bar & Grill segment. NDP data shows which items drive this segment’s purchase and where the opportunity is so I compare that info to our current sales to identify gaps we have with our bars and grills – fast and easy reporting for SCs to use to target and strategize for growth. Then, a couple weeks ago, I was introduced to the new Leads management program and, boom… expectations exceeded yet again! This info including real data on foot traffic is refreshed monthly to remain current and accurate and will be sent to DSMs regularly to make sure we are actively calling on our best opportunities. These system upgrades have happened enough in the past few months that I’ve changed my mindset from “This is fantastic, it can’t get better” to “I can’t wait to see what comes next!” I say all of that to say this: When you hear about Sysco investing in our success, you can believe it. From operations to online ordering. Share growth tools to inventory cost and pricing management. It’s been so much fun to watch us double-down on investing in our success and more importantly, our Customers’ success, while competitors cut back or attempt to catch up. As Nikki gets into next, the resources Sysco provides associates and customers are unmatched and I’m so proud to be a part of it. Can’t wait to see what comes next! - Aaron

SENIOR LEADER, LIME LIGHT ROMEO TRIF, OPERATIONS VICE PRESIDENT I grew up in Romania and I moved here in 2005 with my immediate family. My dad always dreamed about coming to America and applied for the Diversity Immigrant Visa program also known as the green card lottery in which we participated for 9 years in a row without any hesitation that we would win. In my early career years, I held various roles with McDonalds, UPS and Costco. I started with Sysco in 2014, and in looking back, this has been the best 6 years of my career. Starting as an Outbound Supervisor, promoted to Transportation Supervisor at our Columbus yard, promoted to Warehouse Manager at our Cincinnati location, promoted to Warehouse Director at our Cleveland location then Transportation Director, and most recently I was given the opportunity to lead the Cleveland team as the VPO. In a nutshell - 6 years, 6 different positions, 3 different cities, a tremendous amount of talent and great people that I was fortunate to work with. What are your hobbies? What do you like to do for fun? Traveling and home improvement. What is your favorite sport? Who are your favorite sports teams? I love the experience of going to a game. All Cleveland sports! What’s your all-time favorite movie? Goodfellas What’s your secret talent that no one knows about? I used to build websites and write PHP coding. Seeing other people succeed, being part of their journey and watching them do well professionally and personally – There is no better reward out there! What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? Don’t suck. What’s your favorite business book? How to Win at the Sport of Business: If I Can Do It, You Can Do It – MARK CUBAN What’s your work philosophy? Besides being the VPO at the Cleveland site which will always hit home for me, I was able to advance my career from getting hired to pushing carts to managing a 1/2 of a 150k SQF/180MM high volume wholesale store in less than 3 years. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ROMEO WOULD LIKE TO SHARE ABOUT HIMSELF AND HIS FAMILY Isabella and I been together for a little over 5 years. We love to try new restaurants, experiences and travel together. Some of our favorite places are Las Vegas, Arizona or anywhere in the Caribbean. Last year we got engaged on the bottom the Grand Canyon and we plan on getting married in May of 2021. Isabella is currently working for Make-A-Wish where she is a Wish Relations Manager. Last year she granted over 75 wishes which was the highest granted wishes in her entire chapter. It is fair to say that there is a lot of friendly competition in our home. Over the summer, I took on a new challenge and I finished an entire basement along with a brand-new deck to our home. We have no pets although Isabella would love to change that.

125 Days and Counting On December 2, 2020, the Pittsburgh Warehouse Team hit 125 days since our last record-able injury. To celebrate this accomplishment, all warehouse employees enjoyed lunch from Los Mayos which is a local customer of the Pittsburgh site. While we are happy to have reached this milestone, we are focused on getting to 365 days without a recordable injury for the fourth time in the last 8 years. Keep up the great work Team! Slips, Trips, & Falls is a topic we discuss year-round. However, during the winter months it is something we enhance due to the added hazards created with snow and ice. So, to help you stay standing, here are 9 safety tips to prevent slips, trips and falls during the winter months: 1. Check the weather reports. When it’s icy, don’t go out if you don’t have to. 2. Use ice melt or sand on sidewalks and driveways. 3. Wear footwear that can grip the ice or wear ice cleats. 4. Wear gloves, hat, and bulky coat which can cushion a fall. 5. Be aware of your surroundings. If it looks icy – avoid that area if you can. 6. If you must walk on ice, slow down and “walk like a penguin”. Short strides and hands out to your sides for balance. 7. Don’t carry items in front of you (if possible). Do not block your view. Hold items off to the sides, lower your center of gravity. 8. When entering / exiting a vehicle, use multiple points of contact. Keep your feet planted. Grip the door, frame, or steering wheel. 9. Do exercises that work on your balance including Yoga, Pilates or Tai Chi
RAW DOUGH CAN CONTAIN BACTERIA THAT CAUSE DISEASE Flour doesn’t look like a raw food, but typically, it is. This means it hasn’t been treated to kill germs such as Escherichia coli (E. coli.), which causes food poisoning. Harmful germs can contaminate grain while it’s still in field or at the other steps during flour production. Processing steps like grinding grain and bleaching flour do not kill germs like E. coli. Bacteria are killed only when food made with flour is cooked. This is why you should never taste or eat raw dough or batter - whether made from recalled flour or any other flour. In recent years (2016 and 2019) two outbreaks for E. coli infections linked to raw flour made more than 80 people sick. Flour and baking mixes that contain flour have long shelf lives, so it’s a good idea to check your pantry to see if you have any flour or baking mixes that have been recalled in recent years. If you have any recalled flour or baking mixes, throw them away. Raw eggs are another ingredient in uncooked batter and dough that can make you sick. Raw or lightly cooked eggs can contain Salmonella, a germ that causes food poisoning. Eggs are safe to eat when cooked and handled properly. Some companies and stores offer edible cookie dough that uses heat-treated flour and pasteurized eggs or no eggs. Read the label carefully to make sure the dough is meant to be eaten without baking or cooking.
BAKING PREPARATION

FOLLOW SAFE FOOD HANDLING PRACTICES WHEN YOU ARE BAKING AND COOKING WITH FLOUR AND OTHER RAW INGREDIENTS: • Do not taste or eat any raw dough or batter, whether for cookies, tortillas, pizza, biscuits, pancakes, or crafts, made with raw flour, such as homemade play dough or holiday ornaments. • Do not let children play with or eat raw dough, including dough for crafts. • Bake or cook raw dough and batter, such as cookie dough and cake mix, before eating. • Follow the recipe or package directions for cooking or baking at the proper temperature and for the specified time. • Do not make milkshakes with products that contain raw flour, such as cake mix. • Do not use raw homemade cookie dough in ice cream • Cookie dough ice cream sold in stores contains dough that has been treated to kill harmful bacteria. • Keep raw foods such as flour or eggs separate from ready-to-eat foods. Because flour is a powder, it can spread easily. • Follow label directions to refrigerate products containing raw dough or eggs until they are cooked. • Clean up thoroughly after handling flour, eggs, or raw dough: • Wash your hands with running water and soap after handling flour, raw eggs, or any surfaces they have touched. • Wash bowls, utensils, counter tops, and other surfaces with warm, soapy water. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO ANY SYMPTOMS Food poisoning symptoms may range from mild to severe and may differ depending on the germ you swallowed. The symptoms of E. coli infections vary but often include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea (often bloody), and vomiting. People usually get sick 3 to 4 days after swallowing the germ. Most people recover within a week. However, some people develop a serious type of illness called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), which can result in kidney failure, stroke, and even death. The symptoms of Salmonella infections typically appear 6 hours to 6 days after being exposed to the bacteria. Symptoms typically include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. In most cases, illness lasts 4 to 7 days and people recover without antibiotics. Illness from Salmonella bacteria can be serious and is more dangerous for adults age 65 and older, infants, and people who have health problems or take medicines that lower the body’s ability to fight germs and sickness.

Cletus Leary Driver – Pittsburgh (Clarksburg shuttle site) After 26 years driving for Sysco, Cletus Leary retired in October 2020. We met Cletus in Clarksburg and took him and his family to dinner to celebrate. Cletus informed us that he had a great career at Sysco and he was very happy to have been able to provide for his family. Cletus was also given a Sysco watch as a token of appreciation. He plans to spend time going to Nascar races and to help his daughter renovate her new home in North Carolina. Attending the dinner (clockwise – Cletus’ daughter, Cletus, Cletus’ wife, Pam Mantooth (SC), Scott Collier (Trans Manager), Matt Rogos (VPO), and Jim Schlafly (Trans Supervisor). Joyce Bortmes Maintenance Coordinator – Pittsburgh Congratulations to Joyce Bormes who retired earlier this month. Joyce joined Sysco Pittsburgh in 1995 as an Accounts Payable Coordinator. In March 2019, Joyce accepted the Maintenance Coordinator position in the Fleet Maintenance Department. During her retirement, Joyce plans to spend time with her family and her grand-baby. Thank you Joyce for all of your contributions and 25 years of tremendous service to Sysco! Enjoy your retirement and best wishes in this new chapter of life! Alejandro (Alex) Galindo Sales Consultant – Cleveland (12.5 years of service) A Farewell Message from Scott Sojka, District Sales Manager Alex Galindo was more than a Sales Consultant to me; he was also a very good friend, but those of you who know Alex already knew that! He was always there for his customers and built unbelievable relationships with his accounts. Alex grew up in the restaurant business with his family’s Restaurant group, Luchita Mexican restaurant group, and there was no doubt he would excel in a food service career as a Sales Consultant. It was a very smooth transition. Alex or as I would call him Mr. Smooth, he would walk into one of his accounts and the respect for all his accounts was earned with the knowledge and follow up he gave ALL of his accounts large or small. It is exciting to hear that Alex has a chance to partner up with his son in a business venture of opening their own restaurant together in Lakewood, Ohio which will be opening in January 2021. I’m looking forward to frequenting Alex and his son’s new restaurant. I know Alex will do well with the passion and love of the industry. He can’t miss! We wish Alex nothing but the best of luck in his (retirement) well kind of retirement in the future! YOU ARE MISSED HERE AT SYSCO! WARMEST REGARDS!!! Scott Sojka
