Solar Analysis

The site located in the southern part of Fuhua Road, one of the main roads in Futian District. Most cars come from Fuhua Road and go through the eastern side of the site. And the main source of noise also come from Fuhua Road.

Because the southern part of the site is the main residential area of Yitian region, the most pedestrians also come from the south. Although the northern part also many residents, the segregation of the Fuhua Road blocks the aqccessibility of pedestrians.

The east and west side of the site are high density of residential buildings, which block the sunlight to the site. Luckily, buildings at the southern part is only about 7 floors. Sunlight from the south can directly cover the site.

PROCESS MODEL

Trees not only can grow on the grounds to provide space for people, but also can be planted on the roof top to recover the greening replaced by buildings.

YITIAN VILLAGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DESIGN YITIAN village is located in the of Futian district in Shenzhen, near the Futian CBD, which is a high density residential area. The site now is already an elementary school and we have a chance to deisgn an elementary school. The theme is "the elementary school in my mind". Elementary school is the first place for most kids where they started to study and communicate with others. It can also view as a small society, not only to learn knowledge but also to make friends with others. In recent Chinese society, most of the elementary school contructed too rigid and usually mindless. The ideal elementary school in my mind should can attract children and also adults. Children staying in the elementary for whole days should feel happy and also find some places where they can play together. The target of the project is that creating a ideal elementary school for kids provide a good place for them to study, which can be a good memory in their childhood.

To maximize the sunlight utilization, classrooms are arrange at the southern part. Other public function at the notern part.

Adjusting the layout of different functions. All classrooms and office surround the activity space in the middle.

At the same time cosidering the interior and exterior. Courtyards surrounded by the rooms and there are also some special space inside.

Inserting roof garden and courtyard space between the buildings. Not only provide space for comunication but also improve the space quality.

EXPLORE THE UNCONCIOUSNESS

Memory of childhood

ARCHITECTURE II Being asked to recall one the of most impressive scene about space in my childhood, the plan of my home, a three bedroom apartment just jumped out of my head. Because it was the home which I had lived for over 18 years.

Studio Work Individual

And this is a cupboard between the living room and the dinning hall, the buffer space between two space. The upper part and the base of the cupboard was wooden and the middle part is glass shelf.

The cupboard between two space divided the space but also remained the connection and eyesight between two space. We could easily saw another part clearly through the cupboard because the middle part was consisted of glass shelf and a steel column which looked thin and transparent.

When I was a kid, it was a interesting place for me at home. I was just a little taller than the base of the cupboard but I usually climbed on the cupboard and stayed at the middle empty part near the glass shelf, lookinig my dad using the computer.

Because I was not tall enough to reach those stuffs in the upper part of the cupboard, I had to climb on it, stepped on the cupboard but I really interested in the process of climbing up and jumping down.

CUBE HOUSE THEME STUDIO: ARCHITECTURE DESIGN BASED ON UNCONCIOUSNESS An experimental arichitecture design based on Unconciousness . At the beginning, for the better understanding of Unconciousness, we tried to find some unconcious activities of people in the daily life. Another prophase excercise is that recalling a memory in childhood which is deep in our mind to explore our own characteristic of unconciousness. In my memory of childhood, the special scene about the space is my irregular acitivity differed from adults at home. It occured to me an idea of experimental housing design, a living space formed like growing irregularly in a regular space range. In a cube of 7.2*7.2*7.2m, 400mm as the mocule, the whole space consisted of proliferating cubes and there is no clear speration of space or wall. Cube house not only provide a living place, but also serve as a place where people can act freer, ignoring the defenite funtion of the space.

COMO POLITEAMA THEATER RESTORATION From the analysis we can found out that, Politeama is on the corner of the main town, most of the scenic spots are on the northeast of the town. Path from the train station to the Como Lake shows that Politeama isn’t the only way which must be passed. These lead it to be a place not targeting tourists but local residents. What Politeama and Community Center have in common: Gathering people to occur intercaction activities Q: How to make the old building reborn? <---- Let the building be used people <---- Attracting people coming here and to stay <---- High quality of spacial conditions, which affording better choices A: Affording different chioces of activities inside the center. Q: What kind of interaction activities will be possibly taken place among a community? A: FORMS OF SOCIAL INTERACTIONS a. without target people (to attend mass activities) e.g. Theatre, market, etc. b.with friends or acquaintance e.g. Chatting, meals, games, etc. c.with friends or acquaintance but for more private activities e.g. Parties, family cinema, discussions, etc.

The two important main spaces have great different atmospheres according to the spacial rank. We try to place in a new popular function, rock climbing, as well as the stairs connecting two spaces, to gain a totally big and new active center when it isn’t being used as a theater. When designing the climbing wall we also take the stage functions, like stage properties, into considerations.

In new center, we make the stage and auditorium become acccessible to each other, the two typical important space are now interacted. Basement and the backyard are also added into the new axis.

SITE SECTION To the south side of the building there are plaza and church, which are the main people coming from. Accordng to this we consider the southern side as the facade with main entrance.

Reinforce the spacial feeling of the foyer, as the transition area, attracting the vitality from the piazza to the building inside. There are also sister functions affording better rest area.

Adjusting the northern elevation according to the new function inside. Backyard is considered as a quiet and peaceful atmosphere, for its location between exhibitions and residence, which are both static functions.

A s s i sta n t ro o m s a re a l l placed in the southeast part of the building. Intensve and independent path for staff will increase efficiency.

Restaurant function is still here as a buffer to the road. Terrace Cafe becomes a verticle extention, strengthen the connection between outdoor and indoor spaces.

a. We consider the backyard to be a part of the exhibitions, so that the oneway path is confirmed. The perspective section shows the space sequence of the community center, as well as the scene that how various activities happening in the same time. The OPEN space can still has visual communication with the SEMI-OPEN space. According to different atmosphere of typical functions like reading rooms and rehearsal rooms, there are physical barrier between. The balconies on the second floor can have visual access to the central space, but not in other way round, which maintain the privacy as well as reaching more visual experience. It also works in the exhibition part.

PLANS

b. There is still hiden path for parking area and restaurant.

Crossing floors behind the climbing wall can view the backyard, also the stage and the auditorium by the designed kaleidoscope in different angle.

c. Three sides of the the backyard are all over 20m h i g h , w h i c h o p p re s s t h e backyard spacially. East side becomes the best choice to build landscape.

Auditorium

d.Tall trees are placing to separate from noisy streets.

The original auditorium space is still being usd for theater. We shorten the wall surrounded, and place flexible doors inside, which can be closing when theater function is working. The door can be hiden behind the wall when the auditorium is used as market, regular activities like handcraft salon, movie playing, etc

We consider that the stage can be more active besides using as a theater, inserting the climbing wall into the stage. The semi-surrounded shape of the wall can fill up the auditorium then become a full space.

Gangxia village is located in the center of Futian district in Shenzhen, existing as the only urban village in Futian CBD. Since 1980s, lots of extraneous people flooded into Shenzhen to seek better development. Villagers gained constant income from them by turning their farmland and original houses into rental houses. However, without enough supervision and proper guidance of government, villagers built plenty of buildings with extremely high density and most of which were even built illegally for earning more money. So even though urban village provides relatively low living cost for extraneous population, various safety loopholes in urban village will always be a threat to dwellers. Therefore, we need to solve problems in the village and in the mean time preserve a sense of history, creating a socially vibrant new heart of Futian.

The variety of the street shops in the village can meet most demands of the residents. Thus we want to preserve the same streets experience.

Most of the interviewees complain about the lack of facilities and low quality of the sanitation. So better facilities and higher standard of sanitation are needed.

Most of the interviewees think that the function this site needs the most are culture block, greening & parks and business center.

Most of the renters are outsiders with low income. Thus we should provide enough indemnificatory housings for them to find their footholds in Shenzhen.

Metro System There will be only 1 metro station passing through the site, which is highly inadequate for the up coming population increment

Current Building Fuction Most of the buildings in the site are research and production office, facilities in this area are severely insufficient

Bus System Most of the bus lines near the site are blocked by the Beihuan blvd and Guang Shen highway

Landuse Ownership Analysis By analyzing different kinds of landuse ownerships in the site, we can better readjust landuse stratergy

D

Beihuan BLV

Planning Underpass Road Considering the relatively higher level of Beihuan BLVD and Guangshen Highway, underpass road is the best way to link southern & northern areas

Improved Internal Road Grid By increasing the road grid density and clearing the the irrational road, the traffic in the site will be kept flowing smoothly

Headquarter blocks Select the central part of the site which connects both metro stations for the headquarther blocks, inserting a central green axis

Pedestrain street space Considering the relatively lower roadgrade and its suitable pedestrian scale, select this big 'U' as the structure of pedestrain space

Open space structure Extend the central green axis to the inner street blocks, creating the open space structure which connects all the blocks

Nope space Creating different and interesting nope space for each street blocks to ensure the equality of the open space

HUMAN SCALE STREET BLOCK

PEDESTRAIN FRIENDLY ROAD DESIGN

Twisted road design can greatly reduce the car speed which is more friendly for pedestrain to cross the road

Twisted road design can also create plenty of extra space such as the outdoor area for cafes or canteens

The extra space could also extend the sidewalk, improving the walking experience in the street

It also provide a temperary parking space or a drop-off area without affecting the traffic

In order to encourage the low-carbon commute, extra space can also act as the parking area for buses and bikes

Elevated zebra crossing could also reduce the car speed which will benefit the pedestrain to cross the road

MULTI-USAGE OF OPEN SPACE

Open space provide different possibilities for various exploitment

VARIOUS OPEN SPACE FOR EACH BLOCK

Creative markets can import new thoughts and urban vatality

Temperary pavillions for experiencing cuttingedge technologies and ceremonies

Art exhibition in the serpentine gallery pavilion provide a place for people to purify their minds
