Since its birth as a township in the 1970s, TTDI remains one of KL’s most vibrant communities well known for their social cohesion, multiculturalism and dynamic youthful entrepreneurs. Stylish retail outlets, multicultural groups and lifestyle communities shape the lively character of the township. The Hatch is conceptualised as the new integrated lifestyle hub for TTDI that incubates the economy of the future – the wellness and creative industries – boasting a generous public plaza with curated programs. At ground level, the development engages and connects the active streets of Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad on 3 sides with an unobstructed, pedestrian friendly plaza. The street life spills over to the public plaza, drawing people up the community centred podium which houses the incubators for Malaysia’s future creative industries. The tower soars above the podium, catering to the emerging niche field of healthcare and hospitality. As a whole, the development is not merely a synthesis of the three components – the plaza, podium and tower – but as a dénouement into the creation of a great public space for civic pride, celebration of life and the human imagination.

The component is cloistered around a single sky garden, designed like an urban park to be shared by the floors that flank it. It acts a transitional space from where visitors or workers arrive from the Plaza, acting almost like a “ground floor” for each component.

retail Designed as a vertical city, the four main components are stacked on top of specialist clinic each other and each is served by a separate lift core. The purpose of this is to create the highest level of flexibility in the configuration of ownership and co-working space use – while maintaining privacy, separate access routes, and security for each. The ownership, or operations of the tower can be divided into the four big components or into separate floors or even smaller subdivision on each floor. In each configuration, the divided unit maintains independence and has access to a dedicated lift core that maintains privacy and security. This flexibility is to respond to the different possibilities in future growth areas in commercial spaces, in particular niche business models in healthcare and hospitality.

The multi-tonal layers of concrete resemble bands of sediment, emulating the jagged and striated rock formations

The structure ascends towards the North and terminates with a hard cliff edge, exposing the raw beauty of earth with its distinctive geological strata formations

The layering of the earth’s strata is expressed on the facade through deep horizontal fins and ribbed patterns, which screen off the carpark

The amphitheatre opens onto a stage that can be transformed into an interactive splash pool for children and families. This water feature celebrates the historical geographical features of this river bank site through which ran two tributaries of the Sungai Gombak. These tributaries later formed a pond on the site at the end of the 19th century. Refer to KL map 1889/1895.
