Sale Committee Welcome
On behalf of the Alberta Charolais Association and the consignors of the Alberta Select Pen Show and Sale, I would like to invite you to this outstanding Charolais event. It is a one of a kind opportunity to connect with fellow Charolais enthusiasts and to source leading edge genetics. It truly is an exciting time to be in the Charolais breed. From the sale ring to the show ring, Charolais cattle are making a notable and profitable impact. The excitement continues this year as the Player’s Club Champion Bull will once again be selling as Lot 1! The Alberta Charolais Association is proud to offer a $1,000 Alberta Select Sale Credit to any 4-H member that had a Charolais or Charolais influence project in 4-H last year. We truly appreciate your commitment to the Charolais breed and would like to help you to continue being a part of it. Simply bring the ticket you received as part of your Alberta Charolais Association Breed Award from 4-H or bring a picture of your last year’s Charolais or Charolais influence project and you can register at the sale for your credit. True to the name of this sale, you will find a top selection of females and genetic opportunities from herds across Alberta and BC. As you peruse the catalogue, you will see that T Bar C has selected the cream of the crop for this sale and there truly is something for everyone. Do not hesitate to give the team at T Bar C or any of the consignors a call to discuss the cattle. Be sure to purchase your ticket for the chance to win a $10,000 credit towards any bull in the barn or to be used in the sale. You do not have to be present to win. We also look forward to recognizing our breed award winners as part of our Annual General Meeting. Also, as part of the sale, will be a fundraiser for CCYA 2020. We look forward to this event coming back to Alberta next year and I’m sure if you talk to the consignors, there will be the opportunity to have them take your new heifer back home and get her to Olds in July. The Single Bull Show and Pen Show portion of this event offers a unique opportunity for both purebred and commercial cattlemen alike to source out their next herd sire. There will be several bulls from multiple great breeders, presented in a viewer friendly manor, with great hospitality. These two days of great cattle, great people and great food is definitely one to mark on your calendar. If you have any questions or I can be of help, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to seeing you all December 12 and 13 at the Red Deer Westerner for the Alberta Select Pen Show and Sale.

Welcome to the 2019 Alberta Select Pen Show and Sale in the heated facilities of the Westerner, Red Deer, Alberta, December 12th and 13th. This great event in the Charolais breed is combined with the annual meeting of the Alberta Charolais Association. Come and attend, be a part of the association meeting, have a great evening meal, enjoy the single bull show and all the wonderful fellowship we have come to expect. The Alberta Charolais Association is on the move. This great event and the Player’s Club Championship are very successful, but it takes leadership and volunteerism to accomplish this feat. We must say congratulations and thank you to all who have been involved in making this event such a success.

It has taken a lot of miles and too many gates to put together this all-star lineup for your inspection. Exciting heifer calves that have a competitive nature and will make your front pasture; broody bred heifers carrying a coupon just months away; embryos for those without trucks and “untouchable” herd selections which can only be found in a sale of this caliber. Help yourself to this wonderful opportunity to add value to your program.
Farmers and ranchers, plan to be in Red Deer and view the programs that make this great breed. Half brothers to the heifers selling will be for sale this fall and next spring. Juniors and 4-H members…take advantage of the excellent credit plan for your next project and don’t forget that Alberta is hosting the CCYA Annual Conference and Show, pure education and enjoyment for juniors and parents alike. If we, at T Bar C, may be of assistance, prior to or sale day, please contact any of the T Bar team and we will be pleased to offer our professional services.

After much anticipation and excitement, 33 top breeders from across Canada converged at FarmFair International on November 7 and selected PCC Brewitt 929G as the new $50,000 Players Club Champion! Brewitt is the middle name of Bill Bullick, the 1982 ACA Purebred Breeder of the Year and the 2004 ACA Pioneer of the Year award recipient. Bill is truly a Legend in the Charolais breed and for the Bullick family to name a bull calf in his honour, you know he had to be very special to them. PCC Brewitt 929G is sired by the exciting CCC WC Resource bull who has begun to create quite a name for himself in the United States the past few years siring several Champions and high sellers in some very influential and powerful herds. 929G is the first Resource son to sell in Canada! And it gets even better! Brewitt’s dam is the highly acclaimed 407B donor who already has 18 ET and natural calves registered under her name including the Reserve Intermediate Heifer Calf Champion at FarmFair this year, both of the $10,000 Pair of Heifer Calves at the National Show last year at FarmFair and the dam of one of this year’s $10,000 Pair of Heifer Calves at FarmFair! 407B brings back some older pedigrees which helped shape the future of the Charolais breed. Brewitt is a complete, angular, stout made calf who is destined to leave a mark on the industry. Congratulations to Prairie Cove Charolais for capturing this prestigious title. The ACA is so proud to be able to offer this herdsire prospect on December 13! Selling ¾ Interest and Full Possession. No semen can be sold or gifted in Canada until 2021 by the purchaser of this lot as semen will be exclusive to the Player’s Club membership. International semen sales (including every other country other than Canada) are not restricted in any way or form. Semen may be collected for use by the ¼ interest owner and the “purchaser” of this lot at their expense. All semen will be collected at Bow Valley Genetics. The bull will be sent to Bow Valley Genetics in Brooks as soon as he is deemed to be ready and must freeze the required amount of semen for all Player’s Club members prior to be able to be released to the new owner. The ACA will cover the costs of collecting semen for the Player’s Club membership. Every effort will be made to collect semen in a timely manner but all bulls respond to collection differently and therefore the ACA cannot guarantee when the bull will be available for natural breeding. The Player’s Club Champion will be on display at the Alberta Charolais Select, so if you missed seeing him in Edmonton, be sure to be in Red Deer! If you have any questions, any ACA Board member or the sales staff of T Bar C will be happy to answer them for you.
This is an incredible opportunity to own the Top Charolais Bull Calf in the country, voted on by the Top Charolais Breeders in the country!

An exquisite beauty to lead off our offering in this year’s Alberta Select. Nearly flawless in her design she is bold, round ribbed, clean made and attractive as you can make a young Charolais donor female. Our commitment to bring our best to Alberta Select is definitely on display this year. Miss Prairie Cove 630D is a donor female that has already been flushed successfully at a 15 egg average on each flush. What an opportunity to purchase a young donor female in the prime of her life. She is bred to the powerful HVA Fireball 662F, our pick of the Duty Free sons at Palmer Charolais’ record setting bull sale in the spring of 2019. This, in our opinion, is as good of mating as could possibly have had been made. Big time opportunity here. AI bred to HVA Fireball 662F on April 5, 2019.

BW: 95 lbs. WW: 690 lbs. When it comes to Crowd Favourite females, the consistency in them is second to none. Time and time again we continue to see Crowd Favourite females top sales across the country and then go out and become top producing dams. This last calving season we had a number of paternal siblings to 994G in calf and we were so impressed with them; great udder development, teat size and placement, mother-ability and the ability to maintain great condition after. 994G’s granddam came from Horseshoe E Charolais and has become a great addition, producing many high selling bulls and building functional females. We are excited to be offering Candy Apple. This girl is a tank, she carries a ton of depth and substance. Candy Apple has many of the same attributes as many sisters before her did; attractive skull, beautiful front end, great personality and loads of hair. Here is a female that has potential to go any direction! Candy Apple would make a great addition to any herd and would make a great show project for any junior. To all juniors, we would be happy to work with you on her for CCYA 2020 in Alberta.

When we first saw a picture of M & M Ms Stealth 9509, we knew we had to someway get her genetics into our program. We believe she is everything the Charolais breed strives to be and has proven herself time and time again after selling for $45,000 for ½ interest to Grand Hills Cattle in Denver 2017. Undeniable is the result of an IVF cycle we acquired from Grand Hills and Polzin after the sale. We chose to use the $125,000 outcross, LT Landmark, on this cycle and the results have been outstanding! Study 16G’s makeup and type and compare her photo to that of her dam, 9509. She possesses the same style, balance, functionality and depth that has made her dam famous in the United States. Undeniable will be in our Fall Show String so watch for her at FarmFair International. We truly believe this female has an amazing future in front of her. The only reason this female is available is to dissolve the ET partnership we have with our friends at Saddleridge. 16G could undeniably be the best heifer calf we have ever raised! Watch for a video online at www.circlecee.com in the near future. Reserving the right to one successful future flush or IVF cycle at the buyer’s convenience. Circle Cee will work with any Junior wanting to purchase 16G and show her at the CCYA next summer.

Our first crop of LAE Easton calves have been tremendous and have exceeded all expectations. This heifer has show ring presence and the makings of a “Hot Dam” of a cow! “Hottie” is a really deep sided, easy doing, well balanced, good footed heifer that BAR J SILVERADO 14S is just as beautiful on the move as she is on the stand. She won her class at her first JWX ALEJANDRO 630X JWX SCARLETT 630S show, Olds Fall Classic and she’s entered in Agribition. We have also entered her in the 2020 National Charolais Futurity Show at Agribition, should her new owners KCM SPECTACULAR BID 240Z PMC346746 MXS ALLEGRO 701T decide to take her there. When we started in the Charolais business, we started off KCM JEWEL 927W KCM JEWEL 922J with two game changing sires, Thunder and Spectacular Bid. Both sires have proven themselves, time and time again, as bulls that can raise the great ones; the ones that TR MR FIRE WATER 5792RET have real world practicality and show ring success too. We couldn’t wait to cross JIL THUNDER ROLL 69Z JIL SENSATION 71S these two pedigrees and this heifer is exactly why. The Thunder and 298Z has been ONL HOT DAM 14C PFC414520 JWX SILVER BULLET 524W a super consistent, quality cross. Works every time! Hottie’s dam, 14C, was Reserve Champion Charolais Female at Olds Fall Classic as a heifer calf, came back the next RPJ MISS TRIM 298Z RPJ MISS TRIM 72X year to win Champion Female as a bred and then off to pasture and the donor pen BW WW YW MILK MTL she went. 14C is an absolute tank; she’s an easy keeper with great feet and she’s so FEMALE EPDS gentle you could take her to school for show and tell. We are loving her progeny and 2.6 38 81 23 42 this heifer calf is the first one that is being offered for sale. She’s a hard one to part with! 4G takes after her momma with her easy going and sweet ways, our nephew who is 2.5 years old likes helping work on her! We would be willing to work with her new owners on getting her to CCYA next year. She is also eligible for our Daines Cattle & O’Neill Livestock Junior Incentive Program. Miss Allie is a female that is so correct in her make-up and beautiful in her lines. She’s a female that has a lot of presence and eye appeal. She reminds us of her ¾ sister, ONL Smooch 3F (pictured), a bred that we have been showing this fall. Miss Allie is from the Allie cow family that has been a true success for us and whose impact on our herd is one that we will be forever grateful for. Her sire, PH Lot 14 - ONL Miss Allie 10G Lee 5C, was the high seller that we purchased from the P&H Ranching ONL Smooch 3F - 3/4 Sister General Bull Sale. This heifer was on a recipient cow in the pasture that was weaned a little later than the rest. She just keeps coming on and she has a whole lot of future in her! She’s nice to be around too. Her half-sister was the Reserve National Champion Charolais Female in Canada, the same year that her half-brother was the Reserve National Champion Charolais Bull in Denver. We would be willing to work with her new owners on getting her to CCYA next year. She is also eligible for our Daines Cattle & O’Neill Livestock Junior Incentive Program. Cloud Nine is a heifer with lots of look, a 78 pound birth weight and a great pedigree to go with it. I purchased her dam as a heifer calf from the great people at Springside Farms. 62C was a really stylish heifer calf that has turned into a tank of a cow with a birth weight EPD in the top 3% and calving ease in the top 2%. On the sire side, Thunder has truly been a cornerstone of our breeding program. He sired Reserve National Champions on both sides of the border in the same year. We are loving our Thunder females; they are making really nice momma cows. 9G is a really cool package! Cascade is a very unique heifer in terms of her makeup, style and age. She is long bodied, smooth fronted and very soft made. She also has a ton of thickness in her hindquarter, a very correct structure and some terrific numbers with a -1.2 BW and a 24 Milk. She’s a September heifer calf, but don’t let that discourage you from this beauty! She will have extra growth and volume when you put her into a spring calving program. We purchased her dam as a heifer calf from Jordan River Charolais in their dispersal in 2015 and we couldn’t be more pleased with how she turned out! 30C is very structurally correct with a beautiful udder and is an easy keeper. Watch for this special heifer on sale day! Sells open.

CHOICE OF THE NELSON-HIRSCHE PUREBREDS ENTIRE 2019
Charolais Heifer Calf Crop
GH 714E Mellow Miss 661G 661G has been showing on her mom and has won Grand Champion Multi Breed Female at IPE and Reserve Grand Champion Female at Olds Fall Classic. During the past three years we’ve been very aggressive in building our Charolais program. We are now calving about 250 females in 2020 and we will be selling about 70 Charolais bulls this spring in our March 12 sale. In 2019, we sold about 55 bulls. The purchase of cows from KAY-R and Bob Miles, as well as an intensive AI and embryo program, has allowed us to grow, not only in quantity, but also with quality as well. We’ve tried hard to buy and use the top Charolais bulls available. Kasey Phillips and the McLeods have been great mentors in our endeavours. The purchase of Copyright, Providence and BamBam, as well as using semen from Double Vision and Apex - last year’s Player’s Club Champion have all helped us to move our program ahead. We thought the only way to showcase our program and show what we have, was to offer the Pick of our Entire 2019 Heifer Calves. These pictures are only two of the entire group. We can guarantee that it won’t be an easy task as there are a lot of other heifers as good or better than these two. There are ET calves from Double Vision, Copyright and Heisman to pick from as well.

CHOICE OF THE HEJ CHAROLAIS 2019
Affinity Heifer Calves
7 of 14 Affinity Cavles The LT Affinity calf crop is over 80% female making it an obvious group to offer for a pick. With LT Affinity being an exclusive AI sire, we chose the dams very carefully. They are cows we think very highly of and are from families that are proven excellent producers. LT Affinity calves averaged 10 days early on mature cows with an average weight of 80lb. They came out stylish, grew fast and really bloomed by weaning. The heifers are consistent in style and have the potential to be good milkers, have good udders and raise great calves. Check out the calves’ stats online and/or give us a call to provide any further information you require. The animals can be viewed anytime. Selection to be made and delivery taken by January 31, 2020.

Stoutly made heifer. The Benz progeny are generally smaller framed with lots of natural muscling. A solid, attractive female. The females top and bottom have been very productive for us. Her claim to fame would be her high-ranking Milk EPD that runs rampant through her pedigree, top and bottom. Her udder is developing nicely. Lots of maternal strength in this heifer. She is bred to Main Ledger Up 51E, a proven easy calving sire. His progeny this year have some nice length and frame. Her calf is destined to be a keeper, male or female. Naturally bred to Main Ledger Up 51E on March 27, 2019. Pasture exposed to Main Ledger Up 51E from April 10 to June 1, 2019. Observed bred on May 1, 2019. Veterinary checked and confirmed pregnant. A coloured, Legend daughter, who is a descendent of the Anchor J herd, Marina and Henrik purchased several years ago. Marina has been known to hoard her favourite cow lines, French Roast is in one of them! Chris told her it had to hurt when choosing which females to sell…well, this one hurts! She is bred to LT Affinity so you will get in on the ground floor of a new bull entering into the Canadian cow herd. This also hurts to let go of, we are pretty excited about the Affinity calves we have on the ground now (be warned, with the Affinity breeding to January 5, you may get a surprise Christmas gift, they are early!). Her sire, HEJ Data Bank 41D is from a fertile, good uddered milking female (Dam of Distinction), she was in the herd for 12 years before arthritis claimed her. French Roast is a result of excellent producing bloodlines. AI bred to LT Affinity 6221 PLD on March 26, 2019. Pasture exposed to Main Ledger Up 51E from April 10 to June 1, 2019. CHOICE OF A BRED HEIFER OR HEIFER CALF FROM ANY ONE OF THE VERMILION CHAROLAIS GROUP CONTRIBUTORS
This past June, the Vermilion Charolais Group was honored to host a part of the Alberta Charolais Tour, which was well received by those who attended. We, as a group comprised of Lakeview Charolais, Good Anchor Charolais, Misty Hills Charolais and XXX Farms decided to offer choice of a bred heifer or heifer calf from any one of our herds. Vermilion Charolais Group brings a combined total of well over 100 years in the Charolais industry and a total cowherd of over 600 cows. Sired by some great herd sires, both walking and AI. Calving dates start mid January for both Lakeview Charolais and Good Anchor Charolais, XXX Farms begins in March and Misty Hills Charolais starts in May, providing a variety of calving programs to fit any buyer. Our 34th Annual Bull Sale is Saturday, April 4, with approximately 20 yearlings and 60 two-year-olds on offer. Vermilion Charolais Group is proud of our many repeat customers, which we feel is a testament to our strong foundation cow herds. Choose from any of our bred heifers or heifer calves prior to January 15, 2020. Please feel free to contact any one of us to discuss our offering.

One of the more powerful bred heifers we’ve ever brought to town. This daughter of Sparrows Lamont 524C comes out of our favorite cow we purchased at the P Bar 3 dispersal, 17T. She stands on a great set of feet and leg structure that will not break down, allowing her to carry her larger frame with ease. She’s bred for a late January calf to KAYR Contender 125E, a bull we used last year on all our heifers and were impressed plenty to give him all the heifers again this year. Pasture exposed to KAYR Contender 125E from April 15 to July 1, 2019.

April 8291F is just a youngster but she caught up to her contemporaries and has bred up for an end of January calf. The HC Blue Rock 2406 sire is leaving behind a tremendous set of daughters and very easy to market sons. We are excited to offer FVC Fancy 9F in this year’s sale. Fancy has it all; power, performance, maternal and stylish to boot. Sired by LHD Mr. Perfect 416Y, who needs no introduction. You can be sure she will go on to be a great mamma cow. Her dam, HC Cindy 206Z, has been a no miss kind of cow. Her track record made this flush a no brainer. Cindy has two daughters in production already in the herd and they are following in her footsteps. One of Cindy’s sons, FVC Duke 14D, went on to win Cattleman’s Choice Yearling Bull at the Medicine Hat Pen Show, earned a spot in our AI program and his calves are at the top of this year’s calf crop. Jump on this opportunity to take one from the heart of this great cow family home. AI bred DR Monsoon 45 on April 20, 2019. Pasture exposed to PCC Kentucky Rain 836F from May 1 to June 1, 2019. Preg checked favourable to AI.

FVC Genevieve 33G sure caught a lot of people’s eyes this summer while touring pastures. She is long, wide on the top and smooth fronted. Going back to the “Cindy” cow family and sired by SOS Rage 128C, you can be confident that she has plenty of calvablity built in without sacrificing performance. Genevieve stood top of her class come weaning time, ranking number one out of the herd with her 205 day weight and WPDA. With her style and performance, you can go any direction with this heifer calf and not be disappointed.

Heart Breaker is one of the first progeny off our new Homo Polled Pleasant Dawn Chisum son that we purchased from Saunders Charolais in Ontario in 2018 together with Char-Maine Ranches. 22G’s dam is a half French female who has not missed a beat. She has left us many females who are still working in herd. When we partnered with Char-Maine on Estrada, we were sold on his performance and great numbers. So far, we are finding that the numbers are very true. If you’re a breeder who follows numbers, have a look at this gal’s EPDs. Don’t pass up the opportunity to add some new genetics to your program.

Lasenza is a large capacity female with that eye appeal. She is sired by our Pleasantdawn GTO sire. GTO adds natural thickness and hair to his offspring. GTO has a bomb proof temper, who has past it on. Lasenza’s dam has done nothing but good since we purchased her at the Alta Select Sale a number of years ago. 17A raised our high selling two-year-old bull this past March, as well as raising two more that are working for Rosedale Charolais and Picray Ranches. Sherwood Farms may be a new name to most of you but we hope it will soon become very familiar to you for years to come. The backbone of the herd originates from the BeRich herd, which has been around for over 40 years. From that solid genetic base we are proud to offer choice of our two best bred heifers. These pictures do not do these two sweethearts justice. They have it all, wide top, natural muscle, good teat placement. They also have a very, very sweet disposition. Both come from lines with lots of maternal strengths and performance. These ladies are ready to produce. Invest in your future December 13! Both are pasture exposed to K-Cow Chill 509F from May 2 to June 30, 2019.

Ms. Benz, “Elsa”, is sired by one of the top sellers at the 2015 HEJ Bull Sale. The Rasmussen family retained in herd use and he has sired many top quality progeny of both sexes. Her nine year old dam has been a consistent producer of winners and quality, functional cattle. Elsa’s half-sister was Commercial Calf Champion at the CCYA Show in Olds in 2012. Alongside the cow, they were the Provincial 4-H Commercial Champion Female and the Regional Champion Female. Elsa herself advanced out of her class at the 2019 Olds Fall Classic Commercial Jackpot Heifer Calf Show. Elsa is a beautiful combination of show winning looks and pasture producer, plus she has an outstanding temperament. My father and grandfather began raising Charolais cattle back in the early ‘70’s, both commercial and purebred. We sold purebred Charolais bulls for many years, both by bull sales and private treaty. The Charolais breed has never left my farm and I am so excited to be back selling Charolais show cattle again. I couldn’t think of a better female to kick it off with than Elsa! Her color is a really soft, smoky shade and she’s definitely one that catches your eye! Have fun showing her and then raise easy doing ones with lots of look! You will be able to find updated pictures and videos of Elsa by following myself or Daines Cattle & O’Neill Livestock on Facebook.

This donation heifer will be sold at the start of the Alberta Select Sale by Dutch Auction 1. The final bid in each round will denote the amount of that bidders donation. Example: Round 1: Final bid is $500 to John Doe. John’s donation is $500. Round 2: Final Bid is $300 to Tom Jones. Tom’s donation is $300. Round 3: We will continue to re-auction until no further bids are received at the low of $50. 2, Each $50 purchase (donation) represents one chance in the final draw, e.g. John Doe will have 10 chances, Tom Jones will have 6 chances and so on down the scale to the final $50 donation worth one chance. 3. One ticket for every $50 bearing the purchaser’s name will be put into the ticket draw barrel. 4. At the end of the sale, one ticket will be drawn with that person winning the heifer.
Growing up I never participated in any 4-H or youth programs. Now that I’ve spent more than 30 years raising purebred Charolais, I wish I had been more involved because I realize what a huge opportunity these programs are for youth members. These youth are the future of the Canadian cattle industry and we need to support them, keep them involved and interested in agriculture, in order to keep this industry thriving. Donating this high quality, Aquarius heifer is one way we can make a contribution to our youth. She has one of the hottest pedigrees and is from the top of the Springside heifer pen.
