STOMPING OUT MALARIA IN AFRICA Peace Corps Senegal PMI/Networks Liaison and Volunteer Coordinator Trained and supervised over 250 volunteers in malaria prevention and behavior change. Worked with PMI resident advisors, Johns Hopkins - Center for Communication Programs NetWorks, and the National Malaria Control Program, to ensure volunteer collaboration on national initiatives. Responsible for vetting USAID Small Project Assistant grant proposals.
2010 - 2012 PEACE CORPS SENEGAL Preventive Health Volunteer Designed and implemented a community health baseline survey for 535 households. Facilitated trainings related to food security, nutrition, malaria, and HIV/AIDS. Distributed nets and performed follow up home visits in the Kolda region during the 2010 Universal Coverage campaign.
2009 - 2010 SOUTHERN ILLINOIS HEALTHCARE
Community Benefits Intern Responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of a $10,000 methamphetamine prevention grant in Zeigler, Illinois. Contributed to monthly Jackson County Sexual Health and Healthy Communities Coalitions meetings. Developed materials for Southern Illinois Healthcare’s regional Start! Walking social marketing campaign.
2008 - 2009 ILLINOIS INSTITUTE FOR RURAL AFFAIRS
Health Resources Graduate Assistant Conducted research on trends in elderly living and obstetrics outcomes in critical access hospitals. Developed Workplace Wellness and Diabetes for the Critical Access Hospital education curriculums.
2004 - 2006 PEACE CORPS NIGER
Community and Youth Education Reinforced English instruction by holding a weekly after school English club for 35 middle school students. Taught life skills, including sexual and reproductive health, English grammar, and vocabulary. Secured funding and acted as project coordinator for an Ambassadorial Self Help Grant to build a new library.
