Celebrating 70 years —and you’re invited to the party! Wysockis is a Central New York landmark for anyone who’s preparing that all-important celebration: anniversaries, birthdays, corporate parties, and in particular —weddings! While Wysockis has been a go-to location for events for nearly threequarters of a century, its current owners —Jamie and Kris Jeroloman— have owned the business just since October 21, 2016. But that doesn’t mean they’re new to crafting and executing large functions, especially weddings. In the DJ business for fourteen years, the couple has expert knowledge and understanding of both the physical and emotional sides of making a special event truly special. In their many years of catering and hosting events, Jamie and Kris acquired all many moving parts that make a celebration successful —the missing piece to complete the package was a location. And Wysockis is a perfect fit. The facility has a wide range of options for your event, both in terms of size and style. If you need something large and elegant The Carriage

House will stylishly accommodate your group of up to 250 guests. The Crystal Room, serving up to 165 guests, is the perfect setting for that “dream princess” event. Or if you need the atmosphere of rustic charm —“outdoorsy but with all the amenities of indoors”— Hickory Hall will be your ideal choice, with seating for 125. “It’s the feel of burlap and lace,” explained Kris, and I knew immediately what she meant. “Rustic weddings are very popular right now,” the couple told me, and added that when it comes to weddings, there is little in terms of theme that they haven’t been able to provide, from very traditional to a Halloween theme, completed with costumed bride, groom and guests! “With the many ethnicities and styles,” said Kris, “we have seen it all and understand. It’s their event, and they want it to be perfect. So do we!” You can also book the entire venue and accommodate as many as 750 guests, spanning all three rooms, or enjoy the “real” outdoors in The Secret Garden or Chapel. In addition to weddings, Wysockis hosts award ceremonies, retreats, 50th anniversaries, baby showers, prom, Sweet 16 parties, social and civic club luncheons and dinners. In any given year, Wysockis will do as many as 120 different parties of varying size, scope, and purpose. largest share of the business —and that demand the greatest amount of planning. Weddings are already booked throughout 2017, and people are beginning to make plans for 2018 events. While there are still dates available for 2017, the Jerolomans told me that planning for a wedding can take well over a year of detailed organization. “When a couple wants a ‘backyard’ feel to their wedding,” Kris told me, “it’s easy for them to forget all the things that will need to be taken into account, from napkins to tables, chairs, centerpieces, even a knife to cut the cake! That’s one of the reasons we’re so happy to have found this location: we can provide the homey atmosphere they’re looking for, but everything is right here, down to the smallest detail.” In addition to typical catering services, Wysockis also offers lighting, DJ services, audio/ Wysockis is a Central New York landmark for anyone who’s preparing that all-important celebravisual equipment, a photo booth —and a wide tion: anniversaries, birthdays, corporate parties, and in particular —weddings! range of vendors to choose from, or you can hire any outside vendor preferred for a given service. “We can provide everything,” said Jamie, “or you can choose your DJ and February 18 from 11am - 5pm. Sounds Of Syracuse

A Little Chat with Dave “Big D” Schneider 1972, Dave Big D Schneider has been an ever-present staple in the Syracuse/Central New York music scene playing along side local favorites such as Hal Casey and Roosevelt Dean. He’s also fronted his own blues based project Big D & the Tasty Cafe. Some of the larger venues have found him sharing the stage with Commander Cody, Charlie Daniels, Blackfoot, Southside Johnny, Earl Scruggs, Chubby Checker and The James Montgomery Blues Band. It’s been a long road of countless measures in signature time for Big D. These days one can find Big D preforming as a solo act, or, with The Big D Orchestra —a Central New York based 4 piece cover group that provides the full sound, vocal harmonies and musical expression of a large group, with the smaller footprint and enjoyable volume level of 4 piece acoustic group. Their repertoire spans time and taste from Crosby Stills & Nash and The Allmann Brothers to Jason Mraz and John Mayer. RIP, R.M.

Chuck Schiele: Thank you, very much Dave for doing this interview with us. How are ’ya? Dave Schneider: Doing great, Chuck! Thank you. CS: Let’s get started by you telling us how you got started in music? How long have you been playing? DS: I credit my start in music to when I watched the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in ’63 or ’64. It made a huge impression on me. I was in the second grade about that time. Shortly after watching the Beatles a friend of mine, who had an acoustic guitar, showed me the opening lick on the Rolling Stones

tune Satisfaction. I was hot stuff! But, I really didn’t start really learning until 1968 when my parents bought me my first guitar for Christmas. I sat in my room teaching myself for hours on end. One of my first gigs was in 1972 at a place called the Gathering Lounge. I was sixteen and had to stretch the truth about my age so I could get in the place. CS: What inspires you? DS: I get inspired when I listen to great music, I get inspired when I get to play with the many great musicians like the ones I play with in the Big D Orchestra —Sharon Allen, George Newton Big D is currently preforming as a solo act, and John Dancks. This or, with The Big D Orchestra —a Central New band is the best vocal York based 4 piece cover group. band I’ve ever been in. What really gets me going is improvisation —when the music takes you in to an unknown zone— when the music you’re playing is something that has never been played and then to have the musicians you’re playing with respond … it just doesn’t get any better than that! CS: Please, characterize your music. DS: Always been a tough question for me, a little Southern Rock, a little country, a little blues and a little folk music. CS: Along with covered material, do you write your own material? DS: Yes, Currently I’m playing one original on a regular basis. I have a few others I play from time to time. I am writing songs now that I would like to bring out to play with The Big D Orchestra. CS: Very good. I sure hope you do! So, you’ve had a healthy duration living the musician’s life. What are some of the things that stand out as highlights along your path. DS: I had some real memorable moments when I played with Hal Casey back in 1981. We opened for some real cool acts —Earl Scruggs, South side Johnny, Chubby Checker. Playing the State Fair with Hal was my first really big show, there was CNY is very fortunate to have such about 5,000 or so in the audience, a great musical community.

at first I couldn’t even look at the audience. I slowly turned around as we were playing … then I saw everyone’s head bopping to the beat. That was so cool! At that point, I was hooked. Later I was lucky enough to open for other great bands: Charlie Daniels, Dickey Betts, Commander Cody. Another highlight was when Mickey Lee Soule joined my band —one of my musical heroes. He’s a great guy and good friend. We got together a couple months ago with the intention of getting something going, again. CS: Nice. Any funny tales you can share from those days? CS: No, none that I can share. CS: Uh huh … I get it … what happens in the biz stays in the biz, mm hmm … What do you think of the state of music these days, in our times, now? DS: I don’t care for music that has a negative message. I like music with a positive tone to it —music that addresses some of the pressing social needs like some of the music coming out today. I love the return of some of the roots music in some of the new bands coming out. A return to Southern rock with Blackberry Smoke, I really love the vocals and music of the Zac Brown Band.

CS: What would your best advice be for the budding musician? DS: Learn your craft well, learn the fundamentals first. I have a few guitar students. The one thing I like to stress is to not try to put every note you can play in one song. CS: Oh, God thank you … Amen! DS: Yeah. Giving music space is equally important as the notes you play. Also, listen as you play with other musicians. When you do that you have an opportunity to create a work of art —created Big D’s upcoming events can be found on by the whole band. When you walk into Dominick’s you will be greeted not only by a friendly host or hostess but also a gallery of heavenly confections that are too good to pass up! While we waited to be seated we couldn’t help but stare at the delicious display of pies, cookies and pastries. We were promptly seated at a cozy booth and began our dining experience. We began our meal with an order of the Golden Fried Calamari, hand breaded, lightly fried to a golden crisp and served with a side of delicious marinara sauce. We chatted about the delicious calamari while eating our freshly baked bread and decided that we were both in the mood for seafood, something Dominick’s does very, very well! Local craft beer groups have been popping up in recent years, so let’s take a look at them. As founder of the Syracuse Women of Craft Beer (SWCB), I wanted to find out more about the other groups. I recently had the fortune of talking with leaders in the local craft beer scene to find out more. I spoke with Stacey Juston, Zoe Rodriguez, Tony Cimpi, Nick LaPlant and Michelle Berthelot Giraud about the groups and how others can participate. Just about everyone is a native Central New Yorker, with the exception of Nick from outside Middlebury, VT and Zoe who is from Puerto Rico. We engaged in some Q & A to dig a little deeper. cooking. As a chef, I’ve learned more about beer through cooking. My husband is a brewer at Good Nature Brewing in Hamilton, so with the food-beer connection, I fell into craft beer very naturally. GA-R: When did you start your groups and what kinds of things do you do? TC: March 2015. There were twelve of us that used to go to Brilbeck’s and we were planning a bottle share … the group expansion continued mostly from word of mouth; I met Nick and we discussed the group’s growth and where it should go. NL: The core goal of the group is to connect beer enthusiasts with other local beer enthusiasts while promoting an open forum for Me and Michelle Berthelot Giraud of the beer-themed discusSyracuse Women of Craft Beer. sions. Activities include working with a local beer-themed business on events where SCBE members can meet and chat in person. SCBE plans on several activities in the coming year. SJ: I started the CNY Craft Beer Society about six years ago with my roommate to get people together who liked good beer. I put on a small brew fest and worked to bring more small breweries to catch locals’ attention, had get-togethers, etc. I took a bit of a hiatus and started CNYCBS back up again about a year ago and have done some get together events. After the first of the year we’ll have monthly events —everything from casual get-togethers to brewery tours and beer dinners. GA-R: The SWCB had its first meeting in January 2014 with 14 members and has grown to over 100. Our group is focused on women meeting other women who have an interest in craft beer and would like to learn more in a social setting. I started it because I was working for a brewery and wanted to meet other women with the same level of enthusiasm for craft beer. MBG: The SWCB features monthly events that are focused on learning something new about beer. They’re usually held at a local brewery, restaurant, or bar where we enjoy samples of beer and a small bite to eat. Some of our recent activities include a dark beer & chocolate pairing, Middle Ages brewery tour, a discussion panel featuring women working in the craft beer industry, and a tour of a hop farm. ZR: I started the Syracuse chapter of GPO in January 2016, and our first meeting was this past March. With over 90 chapters in the U.S., the GPO is a national craft beer organization for women. I really wanted to meet other like-minded women and so I searched on the Internet and read about the GPO organization. So far we have met at places like Now & Later, Eastwood Brewing Company, and recently had a bottle share at Syracuse Co-Works.

Resolve to Stop Resolving Rather than belabor the whole New Year’s Resolution thing I wanted to start out the new year with a top 5 stories list. You know I don’t think people should wait for a certain date before they begin the process of changing themselves. The day to start changing is today. I have a friend who says … ”I will start my diet on XX date.” He then uses this as an excuse to overeat until that date … ”Well, soon I will be on a drastic diet … overeating now can’t make a difference.” Then, of course, the date comes around and he has another excuse as to why he is putting it off. My friend is very well intentioned and I think he really means it but this pattern has occurred so often you would think an intelligent person would recognize this but that just goes to show that it is hard to really know yourself. Change your life and habits or don’t but the day to do that is today … not tomorrow or Jan 1st. My top 5 medical stories are probably not the 5 your own doctor would list. I would urge you to bring up any of these articles to ask your doctor if they are in fact true but I think you’re just going to upset your doctor because it’s extra work for them or challenges their long held beliefs. Story #1 is the United States Preventive Task Force statement regard-

They state “There is insufficient evidence to recommend for or against statin use for people older than age 75.” I know many many people older than 75 that are taking a statin drug just because their numbers are high. This recommendation from this independent panel is likely to go ignored because it doesn’t agree with current practices for most doctors. One of the scariest things to me is that when we have new evidence —unless it agrees with our current thinking— we have a tendency to ignore it. Story #2 is the recent article in the New England Journal of Medicine that suggested that most supplemental oxygen is a waste. Essentially if you can walk around with your oxygen bottle you probably don’t need it! Medicare, who makes most of the rules, has long stipulated that oxygen therapy is appropriate for people if their oxygen saturation when tested in the office is less than 89%. If oxygen is low you should prescribe oxygen and the patient should benefit and live longer and require less hospitalizations and feel better. It certainly made sense but unfortunately this most recent study shows that for the vast majority of people getting submental oxygen there is no difference of hospitalizations, life expectancy or patient’s satisfaction. Again, what we have been doing for many people for many years seems to be not appropriate or not cost-effective or simply not impactful to the patient’s health. Despite this report which was well done and published in a major journal I believe Call most doctors again will not change ahead for their practice. I think they’re all healthy for you and when I was younger I used to hit the hot peppers a bit more than I do now and even now I can get a good sweat going from eating a hot pepper. There is however a danger from hot peppers and that is if you have a pepper that so irritating that it causes you to vomit violently. This can cause a spontaneous esophageal rupture which is also called Boerhaave’s syndrome. Trending This month: a quick New Year’s collection of stuff, in no particular order and mostly of no particular significance, but all to do with Internet content and trends. Crisis actors. What you see may not be what you think you see. Recall, if you can, the days of “news reels,” which were filmed, processed, edited and printed —in other words, film “news” might be a week old before it reached you, and because of the many steps it had to go through —and the costliness of creating it— it was both more and less honest than the news of the first days of ENG —electronic news gathering. More, in the sense that shooting and editing film wasn’t all that easy, so setting up a story would really have to be worth the effort. Less in the sense that it was highly scripted, intoned with great seriousness, and shot with some of the sensibilities of filmmaking as an art. ENG was more immediate, and we supposed more honest —yet as we learned in the days of student protesting and the Viet Nam War, what was left out of a shot was as important as what was included, and much could be done to influence our opinions with skillful shooting and editing— and the speed of the turnaround led us to believe that what we saw had to be real. Do you remember the film “Wag the Dog?” It was about a director hired to create a fake crisis in Albania for political purposes, complete with an “orphan child”

actress, bombs, smoke, and stunning special effects. Clever idea, if preposterous. Or was it? Conspiracy theories abound that today much of what we see and hear is being done simply for the camera. These days it seems a crisis can’t go by without someone suspecting that it’s a setup —and truth be told there are in fact actors who specialize in playing victims of various crises so that EMTs and ER staff, for example, can practice for a real emergency. Each actor has a set of circumstances and symptoms that he or she is expected to play with as much sincerity and authenticity as possible. And certain events in war torn regions have been deemed suspicious —or even proven fraudulent. Cell phones are ubiquitous, which is what makes the entire enterprise amusing: who will watch the watchers? Why, our cell phones, of course! Finger-mouthing selfies. As if the concept of the “selfie” weren’t enough of a “thing.” Now there are selfie trends. Duck lips. Wide open mouth “We’re so drunk and having so much fun!” selfies. “Photo bombs.” Bathroom and butt selfies. Funeral selfies, for goodness sake. Hey Authority shots. Now, “finger-mouthing” is the selfie du jour. “Oh, I just casually took a selfie in perfect lighting with complete makeup and happened to have my just-manicured finger brushing lightly against my over-large lips.” Any photo with Sam Elliott and a snarky comment. With the release of last year’s outstanding EPISODE VII: THE FORCE AWAKENS, the STAR WARS brand was reinvigorated in a way that previously seemed impossible. The daunting specter of the much maligned Episodes 1-3 became a distant memory, and the future was filled with hope and excitement. There are a slew of STAR WARS projects in the works, and we should see a new chapter in the saga each and every year for the foreseeable future. Some of these will be a continuation of the plotlines established in Episodes 4-7, and others will be stand-alone adventures that revolve around established characters and original stories. The first of these, ROGUE ONE, debuted in theaters in December, and once again proved that STAR WARS has officially solidified itself as the most formidable franchise in all of cinema. When the plot of ROGUE ONE was ROGUE ONE: Ainitially released, I will admit that I was immensely skeptical. Taking place before the events of NEW HOPE, it was to be the story of how the Rebel Alliance was able to procure the plans of the Death Star in order to destroy it. I, like many others I would imagine, thought that it was just about time to move away from storylines revolving around the Death Star. I mean, how many different ways can they tell a tale about the

Compile this with the fact that Disney executives were unhappy with the first cut of the film and demanded extensive re-shoots, there was plenty of room for further doubt and concern. Despite the shroud of uncertainty that enveloped the production prior to its release date, it dissipated in the opening minutes of the massively entertaining and exciting ROGUE ONE. At the center of the story is Jyn (Felicity Jones) the daughter of scientist Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen) who was one of the chief architect’s of the Death Star. Seeking to clear her father’s name and hoping to achieve redemption for herself in the process, she and Rebel analyst Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) set out on a seemingly impossible mission. The Write Stuff by NANCY ROBERTS

I Once Was Lost by Jonathan Fanning A friend and author asked if I would be interested in reading his latest book. He mentioned that it had something to do with C.S. Lewis —if not my all-time favorite writer, then certainly one of my top ten. Of course I would! Unfortunately for you, the book won’t be available until just after the New Year, but by the time this review is in print you may be able to find this very fine story on Amazon. The premise is simple: take a man, a successful, driven business owner. Add his sister, married to his best friend who feels compelled to go and do his duty to his country, and never returns. Now, mix in a small boy of six. And finally, bring them all together around the uncle and nephew’s discovery of the Narnia books —more accurately, the Uncle’s introduction of Narnia to his young nephew, and what the ritual of reading them, with a few slightly uncanny episodes added just for the mystery of it all— and you have a touching, tender, thoughtful exploration of the meaning of life, relationships, purpose, and what we all can teach one another: sister and brother, husband and wife, child and adult, author and Open Tuesday – saTurday reader. Jonathan, like his main character, Thomas, is an entrepreneur and Not Your Average Antique Store! a motivational speaker, so much of the story Didn’t Get Exactly What You deal with themes that Wanted for Christmas? comprise his own professional life. But the story isn’t his life; it is his interests and devotions delivered in a fictional ✴ New & Old tale that wanders Jewelry through a man’s strug-

gle to find where he’s meant to be when his successful and all-consuming business comes to a sudden halt; what his sister is trying to tell him when she asks him if he will —if he can— “listen.” What his young nephew and he learn from their shared adventures in Narnia. For anyone who doesn’t know, Narnia is a world accessed through the wardrobe of a set of children waiting out WWII in their relative’s home in the country. As they explore his mansion far away from the dangerous bombing of London, they find one day, playing hide and seek, that the back of the wardrobe in one of the lonely bedrooms leads to a mystic land where animals talk, where witches are real, and where children can become Kings and Queens once they discover the power within them to do the right thing. When I was about ten I found Lewis’s Space Trilogy in the library and fell instantly in love. Later I learned about the Narnia books, and of course had to read them all, and eventually anything and everything Lewis wrote. C.S. Lewis was a writer of great power and deep spirituality, who found clever and profound ways to bring his own religious convictions to readers of all ages, and to make sense of the mysteries of faith. But you needn’t agree with his beliefs to enjoy his work or the overarching stories of The Good in mankind, and the constant struggle we engage in to understand our own foibles and failures, and listen to the voice of our best self when it speaks. Fanning has accomplished something similar here: using Narnia as a point of departure, and the connection these children’s books make between Thomas and his nephew, this book follows Thomas on his own voyage of self-discovery —and not without the added touches of magic that happen to our main characters as their tale unfolds. Thank You for Voting Us Do yourself a favor Best Book Store in CNY! and look for this book early in 2017 —it will be available on Amazon— and eventually as a book-on-tape. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story continued from pg 17

ROGUE ONE RATED: PG-13 RUN TIME: 2h 13min GENRE: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi STARRING: Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker DIRECTORS: Gareth Edwards WRITERS: Chris Weitz, Tony Gilroy, John Knoll, Gary Whitta

AWAKENS, there are characters who are endearing and enthralling. Whether they were part of the Rebellion or the Empire, the audience is invested in their success and/or failure. It is one of the rare sagas in cinema where the villains are as beloved as the heroes, and their legacy spans decades rather than minutes. This endearment, however, is not applicable in ROGUE ONE. The majority of these characters will never be seen again, yet the impact of their actions lays the foundation to the entire

franchise. This is not to say, however, that the performances are subpar. In fact, Felicity Jones provides a turn that is one of the strongest in the entire STAR WARS canon. She is a unique talent that has proven that she can churn out an Oscar caliber performance in an emotional drama (THEORY OF EVERYTHING) yet can also carry an action film with relative ease. It is abundantly clear that her trajectory, as well as the STAR WARS franchise as a whole, will continue to soar for years to come.

New Year’s Resolution to Lose Weight? Another holiday season has come and gone and 2017 has arrived. After a season of way too many cookies, several glasses of egg nog, and a half dozen holiday parties, it’s no wonder were feeling tired, sluggish and a bit out of shape. With our gym bags packed and our sneakers by the front door, we solemnly swear that this year will be different! This year is going to be the year that we follow through with our New Year’s Resolution to Lose Weight! Did you know that thirty percent of all New Year’s resolutions are broken before February? This is because people set unrealistic goals. Instead of “cutting out” this food, or telling yourself that you can “never again” have that food, focus on setting goals that you can achieve! If you are someone who eats whatever and whenever you want, you need to have some kind of structure with your eating patterns. This means having more consistent meal times. Once mealtimes become a regular pattern, look at reducing portion sizes and eliminating desserts from the

Do not see food as the enemy! Believe it or not, a lot of people who try to lose weight tell me they absolutely hate eating. Having to think about what they’re going to eat and when they have to eat it becomes a stressful situation leaving them feeling frustrated, defeated and out of control. Wedding Location & Wedding/Reception Planners

These wedding services are perhaps the most important in the chain of wedding planning process. As soon as you decide your wedding date, you need to pick up a wedding location, since; the rest of the wedding aspects depend on the availability of services in that particular wedding location of your choice. Wedding location services can help you decide the venue and place where you would like to get married in. You can either choose a destination wedding in hot international wedding spots like the Caribbean, Istanbul, Mexico, European destinations, or you can choose one within the US, like Las Vegas. But of course, all this depends on your budget and the number of people attending your wedding.

Entertainment Services

Once again, you can hire an entertainment service that you are comfortable with and take them along. More often than not, entertainment services perform and travel as a group, and will have a pre-described fee for travelling to a different wedding destination, which makes it easier to just concentrate on taking care of your near and dear.

Florists

Choosing a florist should be done carefully, since, having a destination wedding or out of the country wedding will give rise to several logistic challenges, not to mention retaining the freshness of the flowers and decoration time required. It is best to choose a local florist.

Accommodation & Transportation Services

Accommodation and transportation should be pre-arranged and prebooked at the very earliest. This will be to accommodate your guests and transport them from different points of interest, such as the hotel where they will be staying in, the wedding location or chapel where you will be getting married, and the hall where the reception will be held along with the wedding feast.

Bakery, Cake & Catering Services

This is another aspect of a wedding. You need to pick up a catering service near your wedding location, preferably, in the same town or city that you are getting married in. Pastries, wedding cakes, drinks and food menu are to be selected with your guests in mind.

Beauty & Fashion by ERIN REIMEL

Wedding Beauty You Won’t Regret in Twenty Years We’ve all been flipping through our family’s wedding albums and come across those ‘80s hairstyles with tons of blue eyeshadow and electric pink lipstick and thought, I cannot let this happen to me. But let’s face it, no matter how hard we try, what’s trendy now will inevitably not be trendy in the decades to come. And when it does come back into style, it’s just not quite the same. So in order to make sure your children and grandchildren don’t laugh out loud when they see grandma’s wedding photos, here are a few steps you can follow to look totally timeless.

Test it Out Before

You may be a go-with-the-flow bride, but if you didn’t buy your dress off the rack the day of your wedding, you shouldn’t be leaving everything else until the day of. If you’re getting your hair and makeup done, meet with your stylist ahead of time and talk about what you’re looking for. Bring photos of your dress and inspiration for what you’d like to look like. Then test it all out. If you don’t like something, now is the time to change it.

Nix the Crazy Up-Dos

When you’re looking back at bad old photos, it’s the hair that always sticks out —the mullets, the flippedout ends. And of course you’ll want to style your hair for the big day to look your very best, but go with what feels the most natural. If you never curl your hair, why would you on your wedding day? And if your hair is always down and dusting your shoulders, do you really want to put it up in a beehive? You want to look like the most beautiful version of yourself, so stick to your normal self as much as possible.

On your wedding day you want to look like the most beautiful version of yourself, so stick to your normal self as much as possible.

Go With Your Gut

It’s your day so if someone is trying to convince you to try something totally out of your comfort zone, you have every right to shut them down. Whether it’s your mother encouraging you to wear a red lip when you only like lip balm or your best friend trying to show you how great you’d look with a cat eye when you’ve never worn one, you want to look like you on your wedding day. So if it’s something you’re unsure of, stay away.

Go For Long-Lasting But Minimal

Unless you’re a Kardashian, there’s no need to contour your face until you’re unrecognizable. Make sure to get HD level makeup that looks great in photos and stays on all day, but don’t cake it on. Instead, just elevate your normal makeup routine a bit but keep things simple. You’ll look healthy, not fake.

Say No to Faux

Unless you’re a false eyelash wearing kind of girl, you may want to refuse the glued on strips of lashes. Yes, they look great in photos but they also feel like they’re about to fall off at any moment. The same goes for hair extensions or fake nails. If they’re not part of your everyday (or at least special occasion) routine, you don’t want them. If you spend all night wondering if your fake nail is going to snap off, you won’t enjoy your moment.

Bridal Fashions: The Ultimate Wedding Gown Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Those words inspire legions of girls to start on the search for the perfect wedding gown, the ideal dress that will make you an unforgettable bride. The search for the ultimate wedding gown is one that most prospective brides undertake happily. A bride’s wedding gown is a personal expression of her style, and every bride wants to find that look that completes her wedding dream. With an endless array of wedding fashions available, the choices can seem overwhelming. Satin? Tulle? Princess cut? A-line? Before even trying on a dress, the bride must choose the silhouette of the gown, the fabric, the color, neckline, waistline, sleeve, back, trail…all before selecting the veil, hair, gloves, attendants; gowns, flowers, and the rest of the wedding day necessaries. With so many decisions to make, it’s best to start with the basics. The silhouette of the dress is the most important choice for finding the perfect gown to flatter your figure type. The classic A-line provides an elegant profile for most body types, with the sides gently angling gently from the bustline to a gradually wider hemline. Ball gowns have a fitted, often strapless bodice and poofy bell bottom, with stiff crinoline providing additional volume to the skirt. They can be

the dress. Satin buttons, re-embroidered lace, tulle inserts, beaded insets, and lace medallions over satin or silk provide a sophisticated feel. Beading with tiny pearls or crystals accentuate and sparkle. One modern and elegant style is asymmetrical beading that starts on one side of the dress, swooping down cross the front, guiding the eye to the gown’s floor-length hemline. Lace-up backs can give a vintage feel, or make a modern statement in a sheath, and inverted single pleats in the skirt can give chic definition to a simple gown. Two-piece bridal sets are an amazingly flexible choice, especially for those who aren’t a standard size 6. Body types vary widely, and when your hips are a bit on the slim side compared to your shoulders, or vice versa, a one-piece dress may require substantial tailoring to truly fit your shape. A dress with separate bustier and skirt (depending on the designer, of course!) is naturally easier to adapt to a range of shapes. And if adjustment is needed, separates are far simpler for a seamstress to successfully alter. A bit of research at the beginning of your quest can make the whole wedding planning experience much more enjoyable. First, head online. The Internet is overflowing with helpful web sites that show off the latest designs, help you find the ideal dress for your figure, and find bridal resources in your area. Dozens of sites provide a wide array of services, including a complimentary private account where you can save your big day planning details, lists of bridal designers, checklists and timelines to help you keep on track. You can upload a photo to try different hairstyles and veils, and create a virtual model to view all your gown choices. It’s a great way to narrow down your choices. Once you have an idea of your perfect dress, head straight to the bridal shops to let the experts advise you on fit and selection. Armed with a little information and a few practical tips, the shopping trip can be a breeze instead of totally overwhelming. Pictures are wonderful, but they can’t compare to seeing and feeling your prospective dress as you try in on, and bridal shop professionals provide expertise and service that you just can’t get from a computer. Bridal fashion is formal wear, and sizes can very greatly between designers. One brand’s size 8 can be a 10 in another designer’s line. When trying on the dress, remember that you will be wearing it for many hours, so comfort and fit are vital. Very elaborate dresses can be heavy, possibly weighing 10 pounds or more. A workout program might be in order to get you through the big day! Many details remain after choosing the dress. Your hairstyle and veil will depend on the style of your dress. Princess gowns look lovely with upswept ‘dos, while sheath dresses lend themselves well to long, smooth styles. Veils have to complement both The important thing to remember is that only the dress and hair, so you you can choose what kind of bride you want have to settle on one or to be. array of choices – tiaras, crowns, flowers, flowing satin and tulle. From just covering the head to elegantly trailing the bride, the veil is a crowning touch to a beautiful ensemble. Attendants’ gowns should follow the general theme of the wedding fashion to accentuate, enhance and support the bride’s vision of the day. Be sure to order wardrobe and accessories early, to ensure arrival well before they’re needed; alterations can add weeks to prep time! The important thing to remember is that only you can choose what kind of bride you want to be. Take time to make your selections, but if that dream dress appears before you, grab it! Luxurious silks and satins, dreamy chiffons, or elegant organzas can truly make you feel like a princess as you walk down the aisle. Whether romantic, modern, or traditional, the dress has to make you feel fabulous as you start your new life. It’s your day, so make the most of it!

Picking an Awesome DJ For Your Wedding Finding the right DJ is essential to having a great wedding reception, hire the wrong one and it can ruin your whole day! A bad DJ can actually turn your reception into a nightmare, so this really is a very important decision and should be made very carefully. People usually opt to use DJs because it’s simpler than dealing with a live band and usually less expensive. You will usually find quite a few DJs in your area to choose from, and they will range in experience from casual guys that moonlight and do it on the side to professional wedding and corporate DJ companies and DJ’s that can come equipped with their own light show if that’s what you want.

Prices for DJs

Finding the right DJ is essential to having a great wedding reception, hire the wrong one and it can ruin your whole day!

Sometimes you can find a casual moonlighting DJ that can do just as good a job as the more expensive guys so you have to check them both

out before you decide, more about that later. Prices can usually range from $300 to $3,000 for a DJ, the average being around $1,200 for a professional and depending on who and what you include. There are lots of options here but there are also almost as many things that can go wrong. Remember your wedding reception is no time for Golf Club amateur hour!

The bottom line in deciding on your DJ, and the single most determining factor, should be experience, experience, experience. You should always opt for the DJ with the most experience - specifically wedding reception experience - that you can find. There is a flow to wedding receptions and a professional, experienced wedding DJ that has done many receptions is familiar with how receptions proceed, the traditions, and how to emcee and keep your reception moving along and keep your guests happy and

dancing. There is also nobody that can save your reception faster when something goes wrong, food gets delayed, or other things happen, than a really experienced wedding reception DJ. Most of the time your guests will never know of a problem as the DJ has kept them entertained while the problem was fixed. One of the best ways to find a top-notch wedding DJ is to ask the venue where you are having your reception if they have one that has done numerous weddings there that they can recommend. A DJ that knows the venue and the support staff and has worked it many times before is a real advantage, obviously has the experience and can really help things run super smoothly. If you are using a DJ company, a good idea is to always insist on hiring the owner of the company. The owner will probably cost more to hire but they will almost always have more experience and it is usually well worth the extra money. You can specify this in your contract with no substitutions allowed so they can’t switch at the last minute. But getting back to what we talked about before, always have your own backup plan, even if you’re using the best DJ company on the planet, and always check in quickly and confirm a month, and then the week before your wedding to make sure everything is still on track. Another good way to find a good DJ is word of mouth or personal experience. Ask co-workers and friends or maybe the DJ that did that awesome job at the last wedding you went to is available.

New Year’s Resolution to Lose Weight? continued from pg 20

Below are a few Weight-Loss New Year’s Resolutions That You Should Never Make:

1. “I want to lose 30 pounds.”

Dropping thirty pounds is a great long-term goal, but don’t bite off more than you can chew. Dieters tend to fall off the wagon when they have such a lofty resolution. Instead, focus on losing one pound a week by setting small diet and exercise goals. Small accomplishments can result in major change.

2. “I’m going to try the ________ diet.”

Fill in the blank with any fad diet and you’re doomed for failure. A typical diet-of-the-moment requires cutting out one or more major food groups. That’s simply unhealthy and can become more trouble than it’s worth. Instead, eat lean protein and veggies at every meal. A well-balanced and properly portioned eating plan will always be the best approach to long-term weight loss.

3. “I’m going to stop eating at restaurants.”

Don’t be ridiculous. Becoming a hermit for the sake of your diet is no way to live. You’ll wind up with no social life! Instead, order smarter at restaurants. Start with a small salad, choose a light appetizer as your entree and have the bread basket removed from your table.

4. “I’m going to eat 900 calories a day.”

Sure, severely restricting your caloric intake will result in weight loss, but you’ll gain it all back as soon as you start eating like a normal human being again. Instead, develop a healthy eating plan. If you need help, consider making an appointment with a dietitian or fitness professional.

5. “I’m going on a juice cleanse.”

After a holiday binge, some kind of an intervention (like a detox) may seem like a good idea, but an all-or-nothing approach to weight loss will ultimately fail. A juice cleanse should only be used as a means to jumpstart your weight loss plan. Replace breakfast and lunch with a fresh vegetable juice or a protein shake and eat a balanced dinner of whole grains, vegetables and a lean protein.

6. “I’m going vegetarian.”

Losing weight requires burning more calories than you consume, but eliminating meat from your diet won’t necessarily cut your calorie intake. Some vegetarians actually gain weight because they are unaware of the hidden calories in vegetarian go-tos like cheese and pasta. Instead, cut back on your meat intake. Lean animal proteins should take up no more than a quarter of your plate at each meal. Fill the rest of your dish with whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

7. “I’m quitting junk food.”

Seriously, how long will that last? Cutting out sweet treats may initially help you lose weight, but over time it will make you feel deprived and ultimately lead to a one-way trip to the candy aisle. Instead follow the 80/20 rule. Many weight loss experts recommend making 80 percent of the calories you consume healthy, and saving the remaining 20 percent for what may otherwise be considered diet no-nos.

8. “I’m going to skip breakfast.”

Research shows that foregoing a morning meal will put you on the fast track to weight gain, not loss. People who skip breakfast are generally hun-

grier and more likely to indulge in fattening foods later in the day. Instead, eat a protein-packed breakfast every morning. Pair lean proteins with high fiber, complex carbs such as a veggie omelet with a slice of Ezekiel bread or a serving of Greek yogurt, with a piece of fruit and a tablespoon of nuts.

9. “I won’t eat after 6 p.m.”

There is no rule of thumb on what time to stop eating. The body stores any calories that aren’t used for energy regardless of the time those calories are eaten. Instead, get a good Kathy Nastasi is going to follow through with night’s rest! People who her New Year’s Resolution to lose weight skimp on sleep are more susceptible to weight gain. Researchers believe that sleep-deprived people tend to consume more calories daily than their well-rested counterparts.

11. “I’m going to the gym for two hours every day.”

um

Working out two hours a day is an unrealistic expectation for most of us. Instead, do a more efficient workout, by doing a thirty minute interval workout with minimal rest periods between sets. You’ll actually burn more calories in a shorter period of time.

mer!

12. “I’m going gluten-free!”

Yawn. Unless there is a medical reason to go gluten-free there is no reason to cut gluten completely out of your diet! Instead, substitute some of the gluten products you consume with glutenfree items or just cut back on how much gluten you consume daily.

In Conclusion:

The first step to losing weight successfully is deciding how much you want to lose. Then set small attainable goals, and approach the process in a healthy, realistic way. There definitely isn’t a one-size-fits-all diet! Putting in the work and making a lifestyle change is the only way to get REAL RESULTS. Take it one day, one meal and one pound at a time and you will be a huge success. Good luck to you and Happy New Year!

My Mind To Yours

by DEBRA MERRYWEATHER

Knowledge Is Power I’m writing this on the Winter Solstice, feeling optimistic about the sunlight increasing, day by day, incrementally. All natural progressions and cycles move at their individual paces. Human cycles move naturally and not at our command. Consciousness grows from physical senses yet we think our minds are separate. We all start helpless and naked in different environments, some friendlier and fairer than others. OK. I am among the plurality of US voters disappointed because while my candidate received over two million more votes than her opponent, she lost. In a tripartite government of checks and balances, it seems that one branch should be truly elected by the people themselves. The president-elect complained that the system was rigged but, once victorious, says he no longer cares because he won. The president-elect is a commercial deal maker who, in a 60 Minutes interview just following the election, admitted that he used extreme, strong language during his campaign to get people to follow him, and, that it worked. He campaigned to “drain the swamp” in Washington D.C. and in his victory tour, explains to his supporters, how he came to embrace that phrase. He was, at first, unsure if he liked the term “drain the swamp,” yet, the more he said “drain the swamp,” the better it sounded to him. “Drain the swamp” played well with his followers at his rallies, so he went with the slogan. A video of President-elect Trump describing this campaign stratagem is available online courtesy of “The Daily Show.”

The president-elect is a commercial deal maker who, in a 60 Minutes interview after the election, admitted that he used extreme, strong language during his campaign to get people to follow him, and, that it worked.

One of the first socio-political, psychologically oriented books I read was Vance Packard’s “The Hidden Persuaders,” a book about how advertising works. Elsewhere, I learned that subliminal imagery might brainwash movie goers into buying extra popcorn. I read this information as I watched TV shows where intense dramatic arcs that in real time might span weeks resolved themselves, always satisfactorily, within one hour episodes. It never sunk in that unreality was sinking in. Well before I gave myself permission to consider the unreality of anything, I was continued on pg 41

Streaming Flicks by BRIAN MILLER

Sour Grapes When I sat down to watch the documentary SOUR GRAPES on Netflix, it was impossible to know how deep, bizarre, and utterly fascinating that a true story centered around the cutthroat world of wine purchasing would be. As all of my favorite docs are apt to do, it introduced me to a subculture that I knew nothing about, and though it was impossible to relate to a single person that appeared on camera, I was completely transfixed from start to finish. The film begins by explaining and exploring the explosion of the fine-wine market that began its meteoric rise nearly a decade ago. With the economy booming, and wine becoming increasingly popular, those with the means to do so began amassing vast collections of insanely expensive vintages. Spending tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars on hard-to-get and status-defining vino, the hardcore collectors would spare no expense in order to enhance their dinner parties and various social gatherings. At many of these auctions, regular buyers began to grow enamored with a charismatic young man named Rudy Kurniawan. Reaping the benefits of being the child of a very successful and wealthy family, he became a fixture at many of these high-end auctions. He was friendly, generous, and had the most mind-bogglingly efficient palate that anyone in the community had ever seen. Rudy was quick to throw parties, come to dinners, or pick

up a dinner check. He wasn’t overly boastful and seemed to genuinely have a passion for the world of wine. Throughout the course of countless auctions, he amassed a wine collection that was beyond belief. For these reasons, it didn’t come as a huge surprise when Rudy started to sell off some of his private stock. Due to his legendary status within the exclusively elite world of private wine selling, connoisseurs bid top dollar to get some of Rudy’s stash. SOUR GRAPES is absurdly entertaining throughout, but when doubts begin to swirl around Rudy, and his tale begins SOUR GRAPES: A to unravel, it ventures into the realm of exceptional storytelling. Playing out as a spellbinding mystery, the viewer is presented with evidence that is difficult to deny. Through it all, those closest to the enigmatic Kurniawan refuse to believe what is being said about the gregarious comrade. These friends couldn’t wrap their mind around the egregious accusations and mounting evidence began pouring in. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there were wine makers and other private collectors who saw Rudy’s alleged actions as an apocalyptic assault on the entire wineloving community. Trust me when I say that the world has known no wrath quite like a man who has spent nearly a million bucks on wine he thought was owned by Thomas Jefferson. It’s been said many times before, but SOUR GRAPES is further illustration of the brilliance of streaming services. Less than ten years ago, this documentary may never have seen the light of day, let alone be presented with an audience who may actually enjoy it. With the countless platforms now available, however, the genre will continue to expand and grow, opening the door for unique stories such as these to be shared with audiences across the globe.

Knowledge Is Power continued from pg 36 working full time, going to college at night and trying to be the sort of modern and responsible woman I thought I was supposed to be. It is only recently that remembered that I once wanted to be a journalist like Mary McGrory. Sadly, the president-elect disparages journalists and he suggests he will limit journalists’ access to him. He prefers to communicate through Twitter, which provides him with an unchallengeable bully pulpit. The president-elect uses media well. Through “The Apprentice,” TV taught viewers that Donald Trump fires incompetents. TV sells. For thousands of years, many people lived in extended families with multiple generations under one roof, tent or duplex. Perfect? No. During the happy days of post- WWII prosperity, good paying manufacturing jobs supported a shift toward the suddenly “traditional,” suburban two-parent nuclear families featured in the sit-coms and daytime dramas financed by consumer product advertising. Not perfect either. Vulnerable people became disconnected from family, community, each other and often themselves. Life lessons long handed down through interaction with nature, oral teaching and then literacy are now eclipsed by ever-shrinking nuggets of information devoid of any historical or social context. Awareness of the continuum of nature, history, cultural change and our own changing relationship to all of it is good information to have. I have been disconnected, through trauma and brain trauma, from awareness of people, places and events from my early life. I have heard, more than once, that is was better for me not to know or remember those things that I did not remember and did not know. This I do know: systems and dynamics that hurt you once might hurt you again. What we learn from history, we can apply to today. Reading and re-reading science and history books, as I am lucky to like to do, has given me a wealth of information to ponder during the nice long walks that the neuroscience books tell me will facilitate the neurogenesis and good circulation that should keep me healthier longer. Change is inevitable yet we all fear the unknown tomorrow. Candidates often

quell discontent, uncertainty and fear with appeals to nostalgia. Nostalgia taps positive emotions connected to an idealized unchangeable yesterday. In the short run, emotions outshout higher level brain function every time. Loud shouts trigger the brain’s primal amygdala far quicker than reasoned discourse, and men’s voices boom louder than women’s. Physically powerful males loom larger than powerful females in a visual world where male imagery has come to define power itself. Gender based stereotypes sell. Today, it is what it is. I wish us all a healthy, safe, conscious, aware new year.

Word on the Street by BILL MCCLELLAN

America’s CEOs CEOs’ … There is a question that I want to ask on behalf of America. My intent is to highlight your place in our “system.” Complex peripheral systemic failure within the framework of your combined successes, not any individual, forces that this question be asked, researched and answered. We are on the precipice of great failure in many areas. Jobs and quality of life, nuclear threat, climate dangers and environmental depletion are most crucial. The apparent safety of our society and existence as we know it, is a false veneer, and the pursuit of a safe environment, fairness and quality of life have been off the table for too long. Systems often have a reversal stage where value is maximized and further pursuit becomes a negative. That is the case in America. This question is asked this way to bring to your conscious mind the heart of your responsibility and what is needed. Government is unable to assume the appropriate integrities. Your talent and success prove you are the talented few. Now we need you to be the best of who we are. Answer this and mankind has a chance: How in the name of this nation, hallowed in crimson, can we bring your Patriotism to the American pursuit? In the years following World War II America was at her finest. Every pursuit in every company was to advantage the citizens of America. By the time this began to reverse a national policy had just begun to design the workplace around a 35 hour work week with the same pay as 40 hours. The intent was to provide family time and quality of life for workers. It was believed people were special and de-

served wholesome lives and not to be enslaved to a workplace. In the ‘60s I made $8,000 per year. Our CEO who controlled all of Central New York made $17,000. If the company did very well everyone received a raise. In those days fairness was expected. If your local grocer charged 10¢ too much for a loaf of bread the neighborhood would boycott. Common sense fairness was the guide. All of this was due to the comradery of Post-World War II. The War was a time of brotherhood. Men and women fought, woman worked and even children contributed. 416,000 Americans died. Everyone lost someone close. E Pluribus Unum was at her finest. The thought of unfairness to anyone in America was not part of our consciousness. That is what we fought for. To be the beacon of fairness and decency for the World. My first years were in this environment. No one was understanding the forthcoming collective result of an inadequate highly competitive system that demanded “every man for himself.” CEOs waded through. In order to do this your needs far too often conflicted with collective wellbeing. The result has failed the pursuit of Human fairness —perhaps our greatest ideal. We need our best and our brightest thinking in the true American way. You are our best. America, the ideal, needs you. Post WWII, we did not have think tanks that prepared us for our encounters with the future. We relied on our inherent decency. It did not work. We floundered with no direction. Our largest error was in not realizing how political power cared far too little about the collective well-being. There was no insight into the collective effects of our deeds. Our Constitution did not protect the character of government. Decisions were for sale. Pay for play was a very dirty thing to do in these early Post WWII days. Politicians lived in fear as it was common, yet unacceptable. Over time came the dirtiest of little words: “evolve” took hold. When things are done slowly over time in the human environment adaptation takes place. Even evil often becomes acceptable. Pay for Play is the supreme American example of this “evolving” process that can degrade even human decency. What followed WWII was a great pursuit of success. This was guided by a money to the top philosophy that failed to protect the nation’s need for comprehensive healthy employment. Only the able were going make it. No matter what, half will be less able than half. There was no reasonable provision for half the land. Provision for matters not profitable in the present or near future, such as infrastructure, health care and pensions were neglected. CEOs and the nation and the world moved forward as if tomorrow would always be filled with plenty. Government was for sale so rules could be manipulated. With “evolvement” the unthinkable became known and acceptable. This included environmental decimation, much extinction and thoughtless resource depletion. Corporations wrote their own law and paid to have it passed, usually without it even being read. They “evolved” into the behemoths of power that both Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt warned us about. Without rules, the Trusts and Monopolies that were once seen to be our potential demise

became Gargantuan and the true rulers of the land. The Truman doctrine “The Buck Stops Here” did not apply. No one took responsibility. Those that foresaw the cumulative dangers of resource depletion and the social threat of hoarding earnings among the few did not care enough to act. No one tried to stem the horror. No one acted as the third world was exploited and decimated the quality of American work. They never even looked at the suffering. The able just cashed their checks reeking with the blood, sweat and happiness of foreign and American workers. Today there is a new kind of CEO in places like Silicon Valley. They envision technological advancements that will replace easily half of what is left of the worlds work. In the future these CEOs envision that jobs will be confined to where social interaction is an economical benefit. Beware, their vision from the 80’s is today’s reality. Robots already make and even can drive cars. They envision continued advancements in Robot research that is well underway will replace most other work. So, they say, we need to look at an entire restructuring of how companies operate and how individuals earn currency and sustain their lives. I have news for these folks. In order to continue on this path you have to continue to sublimate the masses. You don’t have time. This selfish system which is forcing the masses into third world deprivation is not compatible with the American Heart. The many decades of economic deterioration have taken their toll. Americans have had it. The attitude of the sheep has “evolved” into the attitude of the wolf. We are sick of what our leaders and our powerful have done. That is why Trump with his glaring inadequacies will be President. Even in understanding these things I was taken by Michael Smerconish of CNN who said on his radio show that if the Electors overturn the voice of the people (which was zealot news and did not happen) he would not be surprised if there is a revolution. I lived in a time when this talk was absurdly unpatriotic and the home of extremists. Today, I have great concern. After decades of no one minding the store the unthinkable is on the table. It may well be bunker time. Our foreign enemies need merely to watch. My God did I write that? Is it true? I am no longer sure. It is our nature to sublimate such things until we wake up one morning and hell is at our doorstep. Be assured if the greatest generation came back to life they would re-start this country. They would be disgusted and heartbroken with today’s reality. This is not what they fought and died for. As I mentioned last month Jefferson and Franklin would revolt with disbelief and severe admonition if they knew the Supreme Court departed so far from their effort as to allow one man to contribute a billion dollars to an individual election. And call it Constitutional. They would all roll over in their graves if they saw that 1% owned over half of the entire country. They would cringe at the 0 effort to prevent the cruelty of decades of greedy job loss. They would repel at the stupidity that allowed immigration by the millions without assimilation. People that keep their culture language and Robots already make and even can drive allegiance. All this as our cars. They envision continued advancements treasure in Flanders Fields in Robot research that is well underway will roams aimlessly looking replace most other work. for a place to sleep.

The Best Shrimp Scampi Recipe by KAT

Ingredients:

Leave the oil in the pan.

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

In the same pan, saute the garlic, shallot, parsley and oregano over 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper medium heat for 3 minutes; stirring constantly. Spoon the mixture over the 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper shrimp. Return pan to the heat. Preheat 1-1/2 pounds fresh shrimp, your broiler for medium heat. 1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup olive oil 4 cloves garlic, minced 1 shallot, chopped 1/2 cup fresh parsley, minced 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano, crushed 2 tablespoons white wine

Pour the wine and brandy into the skillet and ignite with a match or lighter. When the flames die down, stir to loosen any browned bits on the bottom of the skillet; pour over shrimp. Place the serving dish of shrimp in a preheated broiler for about 2 minutes.

2 tablespoons brandy

Directions: In a small bowl, combine flour, salt, pepper and cayenne pepper. Mix thoroughly. Dredge shrimp in flour mixture.
