Shucks, even plants thrive from it. Plants dig music. I mean without music, would anything be fun or bearable? You hum a tune at work to help you handle the stress. You hear a tune playing and it makes you think of your Gramma (or something) and you smile in a few moments of thinking and existing in the better stuff. Sadly, if I may say so, often times, music is also probably in the top 10 of most stolen and formally unappreciated things. If it makes you smile, then it is medicine. Even money itself can’t make you smile. Thinking about what you can do with money can make you smile. Yes. True. Especially when you spend it on music. Money is simply a temporary grease that goes away when you use it. Music, on the other hand, becomes part of your heart, your consciousness and your life. Music takes care of you. Star Wars: The Last Jedi Once the immensely popular and beloved THE FORCE AWAKENS and ROGUE ONE proved to fans that Disney was committed to producing spectacular, dynamic STAR WARS adventures, the specter of the ill-fated prequel trilogy was finally exorcised. With thrilling action sequences, great story development, and solid performances by the entire cast, the latest chapter in the saga, THE LAST JEDI, is an example of blockbuster filmmaking at its finest. Picking up immediately where THE FORCE AWAKENS left off, the First Order looks to squash the rebellion once and for all. Attacking with a merciless fury under the direct orders of Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and General Hux (a hilariously over-the-top Domhnall Gleeson) look to systematically eliminate anyone who stands in their way. Meanwhile, the rebels, lead by General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) have entrusted the fate of their survival in the hands of Rey (Daisy Ridley) who has been given the monumental task of finding Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and bringing him to the battlefront. As Rey immediately discovers, however, Skywalker is now a shell of his former self. Living on a tiny, secluded island, he has abandoned the Force and everything associated with it. He emphatically refuses to join the fight, believing that the era of the Jedi has come to an end. Despite his initial misgivings, Luke learns that Rey possesses the

The Write Stuff NANCY ROBERTS
The Brontë Family: A Tragic Romance A recent chance encounter with an old BBC production got me curious about one of my favorite fiction-writing families, the Brontë’s. Three of the siblings in the last generation of that name were famous: Anne, Charlotte, and Emily – the latter two remain famous, having written two of the most loved and widely read books of all time: Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights, respectively. But their family history reads like one of the Gothic romances of which they write – and more than likely was the inspiration for their tales of wild hearts and dark secrets. I had a professor in college who was extremely fond of the books, and had more than one theory about incest, abuse, and possibly even schizophrenia that fueled the books. But let’s back up to a bit of simple history. Curate Patrick Brontë was married to Maria, and had six children: Maria, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Branwell, Emily and Anne. Shortly after Patrick was appointed to a parsonage in Haworth, Yorkshire (England), his wife died. Yorkshire is in the far north of England, in approximately the center of this narrow band of the country. The countryside is relatively bleak, and the moors about which the sisters write is what they grew up with: wild farming country, beautiful but

remote. When her mother died in 1821, Maria, the oldest child, was only seven. Patrick shipped the girls (Maria, Elizabeth, Charlotte and Anne) off to Cowan Bridge School, where they were not happy, and ultimately, Maria and Elizabeth contracted tuberculosis and died. The girls’ experience at Cowan Bridge served as a model for Charlotte’s Lowood School that Jane Eyre attended – including the devastation of losing a friend to tuberculosis while there. After Patrick brought the children home, their Aunt, Elizabeth Branwell (sister to Maria) came to stay at the parsonage and help raise the remaining family. This was the beginning of the imaginative play that served the young writers so well in later years. Charlotte, Branwell, Emily and Anne constructed elaborate stories that centered around a set of twelve wooden soldiers given to Branwell. “The Young Men,” as the soldiers were named, eventually came to live in the kingdom of Glass Town, which evolved into the Empire of Angria. Emily and Anne conjured up Gondal, an island continent in the North Pacific, ruled by a woman. Because their father allowed them to read the various periodicals to which he subscribed, the children had ready sources of both imagination and political influence – which eventually gave the girls the courage to attempt the publication of their books, though under ambiguous pseudonyms. Charlotte and Emily eventually went to “the Continent,” studying

languages, music, writing, arithmetic and drawing. At the school in Brussels where they studied, the wife of the master eventually came to believe Charlotte had fallen in love with her husband (another theme that would show up later in Jane Eyre), and all the world at this time was under the influence of the Romantic era, notably in the “mad, bad, and dangerous to know,” Lord Byron. Meanwhile, Branwell, the only male issue of Patrick, was the child upon whom the hopes of the family were pinned. A talented writer and artist, he was sent to London to attend the Royal Academy Schools – but never made it. Instead, he squandered the money for this purpose on alcohol and misadventure. My personal theory (granted, only halfdeveloped, and partially informed by my college professor) is that, given the age at which his behavior began to deteriorate, and the pattern of it, he may have been the victim of schizophrenia, which often, tragically, first manifests in young men in their late teens to early 20s. He, too, was suspected of having an affair with an employer’s wife, and finally returned home in disgrace to die at age 31. It was also the suspicion of my professor – and the theme does present itself in Wuthering Heights, that Branwell also may have been the object of deep affection on the part of one or more of his sisters. He certainly

The Bronte Family: A Tragic Romance continued from pg 5

filled the bill of the romantic hero, with his genius, talent, and salvageable, wicked soul. The girls, in the meantime, had been busy. Charlotte had written Jane Eyre (to enormous success), Shirley, and Vilette, as well as the posthumously published The Professor. Emily wrote Wuthering Heights, and Anne contributed the less well-known but equally delightful Agnes Grey and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. The sisters published under the pen names Currer (Charlotte), Ellis (Emily) and Acton (Anne) Bell, and eventually also published a collection of poetry, Poems by Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell. In Jane Eyre we find the themes of the horrid school the girls attended, and the forbidden love of a governess for her dangerous and mysterious (Branwell?) employer, whose wife is a madwoman and jealously sets fire to her husband’s bed hangings. In Wuthering Heights, the theme of forbidden love, insanity, alcoholism, and early death are repeated. My professor’s take was that Heathcliffe and Cathy were kept apart because Heathcliffe was her half-brother by her father’s mistress. Their love, if consummated, was sinful and therefore punished in life – and it was only when the child of each with another person (a tangled relationship, to be sure) came together could there be peace in the blighted Wuthering Heights.
Celebrating Our 31st Year!
In The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, themes of lechery, violence, and alcoholism are repeated – but with final redemption at the end. In 1848, Emily, too, succumbed to tuberculosis, followed soon by Anne, and of the same disease. Finally, only Patrick and Charlotte remained. In a final, pitiful note, Charlotte marries – and lives one year more, dying of tubercular complications of pregnancy. In many ways, the real story is as tragically romantic as the fiction and poetry the women wrote. While I suspect that most of you have read at least one of the novels (even if forced to in high school), why not pick one up to while away the long winter nights? I’ll admit to reading each of the books multiple times, and expect to read them at least once more. Each.

RIP, R.M.
Tassone’s continued from pg 7 entire restaurant got to enjoy the music and even joined in singing happy birthday with the party guests. Tassone’s Wine Garden gives you a sense of happiness and comfort every time you walk in. Adding to this atmosphere is their incredible staff, many of whom have been with them for a very, very long time. This time we had the pleasure of having Mary as our server. Mary has been with Tassone’s for over 25 years. Even though it had been a while since we were at Tassone’s Mary recognized us and even remembered my husband’s favorite dish! We started our meal with the Coconut Crusted Shrimp- large coconut shrimp, lightly fried and served with sweet pepper chili glaze, a perfect mix of sweet and spice and an order of Fried Calamari, lightly breaded and served with garlic and cocktail sauce. The portion of calamari was very generous and Kyle loved the homemade garlic sauce that added a new and different take on an old favorite. We then received a large portion of freshly baked bread with homemade, scrumptious garlic butter. For entrées Kyle had the Scallops O’Grady, with chopped bacon, scallions, tomatoes and sea scallops sautéed in a light butter lemon-garlic white wine sauce over a bed of linguine. I don’t know how this will translate to writing but this dish tasted like a deconstructed BLT, in an amazing new way. Every single bite was bursting with flavor, it was just so, so, so good. This is Kyle’s all-time favorite dish and every time Tassone’s is mentioned it is immediately followed by him saying “You have to get the Scallops O’Grady” For my entrée I ordered the December special of Seafood Neuburg served over linguine. It was a rich and creamy dish of seafood perfection. This dish was loaded with what seemed to be a never ending amount of shrimp, scallops, and crab. I don’t think they could have fit another shrimp in the dish if they tried. This special was certainly an awesome dish for a seafood lover! As always, the gigantic portion served by Tassone’s Wine Garden was too much to finish in one sitting. No trip to Tassone’s is complete without something off of their homemade dessert menu. We decided to split my absolute favorite dessert, a Tassone family secret recipe, coconut cream pie. My favorite part about this pie is that you can taste the love in the flakey crust and the rich yet remarkably light and cloud-like filling. Tassone’s Wine Garden is the perfect venue for your next party or upcoming event; it’s time to start planning that holiday party before dates fill up! Their charming wine garden décor makes them the perfect venue for bridal showers, rehearsal dinners or even intimate wedding receptions. Tassone’s also offers offsite catering for parties big and small! They can easily provide an awesome meal for up to 1,000 of your closest friends, guests, or coworkers! After all, if you love the food at Tassone’s you might as well share it with everyone! Tassone’s also specializes in offsite catering- let them bring their delicious food to your venue! Check out their website for more information. If you are looking for delicious food and outstanding service then you have just got to get to Tassone’s Wine Garden! It is a perfect place for an intimate date night dinner or even a family gathering! Just remember to save room for dessert!

Word on the Street by BILL MCCLELLAN
The Great Undoing of the Intent For a Great Land As Trump and his purchased D.C. horde give away our bounty in the dark of night the Supreme Court lurks with frugal clandestine obscurity in the background as elections are won and lost on issues they decide. Far too few give them even passing thought. The Court likes it this way less someone finally acknowledges the obsolete underpinning of the Constitution. 18th century thinking does not protect 21st century society but it does protect their power. One might think that the “Great Undoing” I refer to is the recent Trump revolt. No, it is the systemic failure that caused such systemic disgust that such and un-American man was preferred over the status quo. The great undoing is the systemic failure, cemented by the Supreme Court, which allows less than 1% to control government with their money. And a Supreme Court presiding over a Constitution far too short on definition. A Constitution that does not adhere its’ interpreters to intent and their Countries intended ideals. Our best and our brightest can be and are hired to promote the selfinterest of those that pay. Thanks to the Supreme Court, elections have become a manipulation contest between wealthy donors. The good of the people is not the target. The base emotion of biased wealth is. The 1% have no rules. Thus “Self-Interest” has assumed the fore, in the withered stead of common good and integrity. In this environment lies and manipulation are the lead influences. Such practice forces results to become dishonest as truth and issues are sublimated to a very low contributing point. The intent of Democracy is literally bypassed. We just witnessed the filthiest election season (manipulated by the 1%) I have ever seen. Over time wealth purchased the decision making process from the Congress. All the little things that are wrong everywhere were written into bills by wealth. Yes, written by donors and signed and passed with none or cursory review.
You live, largely controlled by laws that no one has ever read except the donor. (For example, a study or audit of Telecommunication or Credit Card law would reveal a massive storage of insidious profitable and unfair legal detail that we all live by that no one person has ever read – Such design riddles American life. All that was checked was the donor calendar.) The Fox is running everything. The 535 individuals in Congress need money to survive. Congress thus has become an arena of contestants. Their individual goal is to raise more money than any competitor so that at Election time they can afford to hire our best and our brightest to manipulate the people. Now, there are only 535 controlling 300 million Americans. Most of their time and concentration is spent competing for donors whose efforts are to sublimate the common good for donor gain. This time consumption glaringly restricts Congressional ability to lead. They simply do not have time to concentrate on their duties. And the money they need to lead is garnered from those that want their decisions. They are thus incentivized to lead against the people. As insidious as all this is there is no measurable Congressional opposition. The 535 and their donors are in a love fest spending most of their energy kissing up to each other. They are big shots that make each other feel good. No patriots. No heroes. No one willing to risk sacrifice. Cocktail parties (fund raisers) and kissy face rule the day. The separation and process necessary for mutual integrity and governance for the people is not in place. The people are subservient. This evolved over the last 4 decades and allowed $ .95 our bounty to creep to the rich. Just look at the results. These are just economic distribution: (The purchase of Environmental neglect and leadership is even more

ability to tap into the Force, and reluctantly agrees to train her. We learn that she is his first student since his former protégé, Ben Solo (now known as Kylo Ren) went to the dark side, and committed acts of unimaginable evil. Skywalker blames himself for the ensuing intergalactic tragedies, and can’t shake the shame and guilt roiling inside. There are a number of other subplots that unfold within the 2-and-a-half hour running time of THE LAST JEDI, including an attempt by the daring Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) to keep the rebellion and everyone in it alive, and an exploration of the complex relationship shared between Ren and Rey. This storyline is particularly engaging largely thanks to the performances of Ridley and Driver. They both lead tortured existences, plagued by their past and troubled by the uncertainty of a cloudy future. As it was in THE FORCE AWAKENS, Driver’s portrayal of Ren is marvelously magnetic. Though it is impossible to usurp Darth Vadar in the category of iconic cinematic villains, he is a character that has far more depth than virtually anyone in the STAR WARS franchise.

Director Rian Johnson had the difficult task of following in the footsteps of J.J. Abrams, but has delivered a film that is easily one of 2017’s most entertaining films. His production had all of the high-flying, thrilling action sequences that one would expect in any STAR WARS adventure, but his successes go well beyond that. The visuals in the THE LAST JEDI are nothing short of stunning. While staying true to the films came before it, there are a number of awe-inspiring moments that allow this installment to stand alone on its own merit. Sweeping landscapes, deep space battles, and desolate worlds fuse together to deliver a staggering number of beautiful scenes and sequences. To their credit, every cast member was superb. It was wonderful to see Hamill embody the confounding and often frustrating Luke Skywalker once again, while John Boyega, newcomer Kelly Marie Tran, Gleeson, Serkis, Fisher, and Isaac all deliver phenomenal turns as well. Perhaps more than any other STAR WARS film that preceded it, the execution by the cast of THE LAST JEDI help enhance the film in immeasurable ways. Striking the right balance of drama and humor (which, with the exception of ROGUE ONE, is one of the most important aspects of RATED: PG-13 any STAR WARS production) they lure the viewer RUN TIME: 2h 35min deep into their fantasy world, allowing each GENRE: Fantasy/Science Fiction audience member to be fully enveloped by what STARRING: Mark Hamill, Carrie is unfolding on the screen. It’s certainly been a Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John while since a blockbuster such as this had me so Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita utterly transfixed. I’m certain there will be those Nyong’ o , Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony who find the aforementioned running time far Daniels too long, but I’m here to tell you that, as a STAR DIRECTORS: Rian Johnson WARS nerd at heart, I never wanted it to end. Consequence to land, sea, air and quality of American or International life play a very small role. Dwight Eisenhower understood the basics of economics that work for the people. And yes, it is high taxes on extraordinary wealth. He clearly defines why the Corporate Tax Rate was 90% in the fifties. Simple economics resulting from governing not yet poisoned by wealth. Why the 90%: The rich have enormous wealth and are not harmed in any way. Because high corporate tax rates create incentive for Big Business to spend earnings and expand, (I.e.: new locations, new hires, new equipment, and product R&D) which are deducted from taxable earnings. Thus, driving reported wealth into a lower tax bracket. Better to spend a majority of earnings on expansion than to horde it and pay Uncle Sam 90% of it. The Punisher With STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI setting the box office ablaze, it is apparent that the saga set in a galaxy far, far away is still one of the most sought after, beloved, and profitable entities in all of entertainment. When looking at the pop culture landscape as a whole, however, you’ll discover that STAR WARS doesn’t have the market cornered when it comes to popularity and craft. In the years that have passed since the release of IRON MAN, the Marvel Universe has exploded. Each film has become one of the most popular productions of that particular year, and the studio is now producing high quality programing for the small screen as well. While network productions such as AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., AGENT CARTER and INHUMANS have been hit-or-miss, Netflix has become the home of the surprisingly intriguing incarnations of DAREDEVIL, LUKE CAGE, JESSICA JONES, and, most recently, THE PUNISHER. Audiences were first introduced to the Marvel Universe’s Frank Castle (aka The Punisher) in the second season of DAREDEVIL. Played with a seething bravado by Jon Bernthal, Castle was a character who dangerously toed the line of hero and villain. While Matt Murdock (aka Daredevil) was a likable, tried-and-true, standard issue hero, Castle was a homicidal maniac with a puzzling set of ethics. Yearning to destroy those who brutally murdered his family, he was willing to go to whatever gruesome lengths were necessary in order to exact his revenge. The Punisher was a character that worked well in DAREDEVIL, but would he be able carry an entire series? The vigilante storyline had been done countless times before, and in order to succeed, THE PUNISHER needed to weave a tale that would resonate with audiences and stand alongside the other giants at Marvel. With a spectacular 13 episode season currently streaming on Netflix, this brutal drama consistently finds a way to excite and entertain. With the entire world under the impression that he had perished, a broken Frank Castle finds himself working as an anonymous stiff on a construction site. Devoid of outward emotion and virtually mute, he spends his days furiously swinging a

sledgehammer into any wall unlikely enough to stand in his way. Haunted by the deaths of his wife and children, he longs to make sense of the horrific tragedy. Unbeknownst to him, a former NSA agent known as Micro (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) has tracked him down, and wants to team up to unveil a vast conspiracy that may also provide Frank with the answers he has been searching for. Castle is reluctant to work with anybody, particularly with someone he doesn’t know or trust, but he will go to any lengths necessary to uncover the truth. For those looking for a series that is based upon non-stop action, you may find yourself disappointed. That is not to say, of course, that THE PUNISHER doesn’t have a number of thrilling sequences. Each episode features moments of unrelentingly intense combat, most of which are fueled by a bloody ferocity that certainly isn’t for the faint of heart. continued on pg 33

compelling I must bring this to your attention. To not bring this to your attention would be wrong. Remember now that I am a regular primary care doctor … I am not a chiropractor. I am not a naturopath. I am not a complimentary doctor. I don’t operate at the fringes of medicine. But I do have time to do basic nutritional research and as your doctor will admit we received precious little exposure to nutrition in medical school. by DR. BARRY Unfortunately this is still true today. I know I am not going to make any friends with this information but you have to know what I know. Milk can be a lifesaving source of nutrition if you are malnourished. Milk is packed with minerals and proteins and good fats. That doesn’t change the fact that cows milk is for baby cows. Let me quote Dr. Frank Oski former Director of Pediatrics of Johns As I have been studying diet and nutrition over these last months I have Hopkins University. ”There is no reason to drink cows milk at anytime in your life. It is encountered multiple controversies … How much protein should you eat? … How designed for calves not humans and we should all stop drinking it today.” Dr. T. Colin many carbs are good for you? How many and what types of supplements should you Campbell from Cornell University … Dr. Gundry, Dr. John Mcdougall, Dr. Breseden, Dr. take? What constitutes the right amount of protein versus carbs or fats for your diet? Klepper, Dr. Gregor … these are all big names in the nutrition field … they disagree on The one thing that unfortunately has become clear … the one thing that the disparate many nutritional points … but all of them believe we should stop dairy. experts can agree on is that we are taking in too much dairy. I say unfortunately First … cow’s milk is not human breast milk … it contains lots of proteins … too because dairy is big business in central New York and I really don’t want to spearhead many proteins designed to make this message. I am not by nature a controversy guy. I am not by nature a guy that a baby cow grow … these same needs attention except from my wife. But the message about dairy is so clear and proteins cause inflammatory responses in the body that contribute to type one diabetes, Voted Best Take-Out Restaurant 11 years in a Row! arthritis, a host of bowel problems etc. That’s right … giving babies cow milk can cause an inflammatory response that causes type one diabetes. Why believe me? What do the “real” experts say? “Early exposure of infants to cow’s milk protein may be an important factor in the initiation of the beta cell destructive process in some individuals.” -And, “The avoidance of cow’s milk protein for the first several months of life may reduce the later development of IDDM or delay its onset in susceptible people.” (The American Academy of Pediatrics Work Group on Cow’s At Our Restaurant Milk Protein and Diabetes Mellitus and Many Other Retail Outlets! – 1994). Second is that there is a lot in cow’s milk besides water, minerals, protein and fat. Milk contains a lot of pus (that’s white cells) … hundreds of thousands of pus cells per milliliter of milk. Also in milk are bacterial cells, traces of pesticides, contaminants like blood and feces, antibiotics, and hormones … lots of hormones. These are not removed by pasteurization. Third it’s the presence of these hormones that accelerate growth … they are designed to accelerate growth in calves … they are not designed for humans … and may accelerate the growth of cancer. There has been a strong link between milk consumption and prostate cancer and this could be related to either all the estrogen in the milk (which may account for the feminization of America) or the presence of Insulin Like Growth Factor. Some people feel ILGF is a major promoter of cancer growth. You know I believe insulin is an anti longevity agent. panel found that milk might contribute to heart disease, no improvement in sports performance, possible prostate cancer link, multiple gastric issues etc. The countries in the world with the highest milk production have the highest fracture rates. Fifth is the issue of Bovine Leukemia Virus and Bovine Immunodeficiency Virus … that’s right cow AIDS … Remember mad cow disease? The USDA found in 2007 that 80% of herds had the BLV infection and antibodies to the infection were routinely found in the milk. Some cows had both infections at the same time. How can drinking milk from a sick cow be good for you. So there are a host of reasons to avoid milk and there are plenty of alternatives. Almond milk, and coconut milk to name two … avoid soy milk … it’s too processed and contains too much estrogen. My advice is to avoid all milks altogether. “What do I put on my cereal?“ I am often asked … my answer is simple … avoid cereal as well … It’s all processed sugar … all of it. You have heard me say many times if you really want to get healthy skip breakfast altogether. It is absolutely NOT the most important meal of the day. Taking soda machines out of the schools was a good idea … the next step is removing milk as well. It’s not good for kids either. Water, precious clean water that you take for granted should be your fluid of choice. Well, I want to discourage Americans from drinking milk but I don’t want to hurt the dairy industry. Of course I have an answer to this problem … export the milk to other countries. Milk might be completely unnecessary in America where we have a cornucopia of nutritional choices but would be a lifesaver in PITCH TOURNAMENT developing countries where diarrhea and SUNDAY, JANUARY 7TH @ 2PM SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 11TH @ 2PM malnourishment are very serious health LIP SYNC BATTLE concerns. I know someone that seeks comfort in food. Me, you and just about everyone else I know. Food is delicious, right? Especially around the holiday season! Many of us find ourselves “decompressing,” with food at the end of a long, work day. It helps us relax, unwind, and forget about all of our worries! Some foods really “hit” the spot. However, “needing a bowl of ice cream” or “having to eat a cookie” (when you’re not even hungry) suggests there may be an underlying problem. What would happen if you denied yourself of the food you are craving? Would you crumble to the ground, no longer be able to function, shut down? Most likely not, but you will have to deal with some

unpleasant emotions such as anxiety, anger, fear, sadness, guilt, and shame. Food addiction has more to do with how a person behaves around food, what they think about food, and the way habits are formed with food. The habits are the real source of the addiction.
Eating Our Emotions
When we use food as a means to cope with our emotions, the body becomes conditioned to crave that process to feel relief. This, my friends, can result in a food addiction. People often associate food with pleasure. Do you remember at a young age being “treated” or “rewarded” with ice cream or candy for good behavior? Research has shown that the reward centers of the brain light up and release dopamine when pleasurable foods are consumed. Could it be that we’ve conditioned our bodies to react this way? Someone doesn’t just choose to feel out of control with food! It’s often a slippery slope that seems to have no end. Below are some signs and symptoms that can help you determine if you have a food addiction: • Changes in mood • Labeling food as “good” and “bad” continued on pg17

Here are a few steps that can be taken to help someone who is recovering from a food addiction:
1. Develop a Healthy Relationship with Food
In traditional 12-step addiction-based recovery programs, addicts are challenged to remain abstinent. However, you just can’t avoid food! Food is essential for life! Someone suffering with a food addiction must learn how to eat properly again by establishing a healthy relationship with food.
3. Follow a Structured Meal Plan
A person suffering from an unhealthy relationship with food can get back on the right track to recovery by following a meal plan that has a structured eating pattern. by the minute for a long-distance call. With technology advances, telephone has ended up being a flat fee commodity, and Internet service more or less went the same way: you paid a fee for unlimited use, rather than being very careful to disconnect your modem after an online session as we did in the 90s. It’s also true, of course, that once a phone call was a phone call was a phone call, a single person who spent very little time on the phone was underwriting the actual time spent on the phone by a family of 5 with three teenagers in terms of the money the phone company needed to collect to make their enterprise work. And with flat-fee Internet, this is also true for a family (or individual) who is running a server out of their home, or using a lot of bandwidth every day on movies and games, versus the person who checks emails a few times a week. So, from the standpoint of fees, there is an argument to be made that those who use the most —either
Net neutrality says you cannot, or should not, inhibit content based upon whether you agree or disagree with it on principle. sending or receiving— should pay the most. That’s not neutrality. But the other part of the equation is what is being sent and received. Net neutrality says that a byte is a byte, and the ISP and all other steps along the chain of send-receive should be unconcerned about the content. Yes, a particular platform can reject content (so, Facebook can refuse an ad it finds offensive, or prohibit a group it finds beneath its standards) – though now we step into territory that’s rather like the baker and the cake: if you offer cake (a platform for users to share ideas) can you refuse to bake it (can you refuse to allow it to be seen) just because you don’t agree with its message? Net neutrality says you cannot, or should not, inhibit content based upon whether you agree or disagree with it on principle. It also says that you can’t throttle down speed for certain content (so, your movie just won’t play right!) for either dis-favored content, or content providers who didn’t ante up for preferred status. This, among other problems, would create a barrier to entry, which the free market (at least in the US) doesn’t like. While various countries have taken a variety of stances on this subject (and some do, indeed, filter content they feel their citizens should not be getting), perhaps the best “solution” was posed by policy experts Bauer and Obar: “ … safeguarding multiple goals requires a combination of instruments that will likely involve government and non-government measures. Furthermore, promoting such goals as the freedom of speech, political participating, investment, and innovation calls for complementary policies.”

Tales from the Vine
by KATHERINE CHASE
A Day in the Life … “I bet you get to drink wine all day every day!” is something I hear almost weekly regarding my job with the Wine Trail. No, I don’t get to drink wine all day, but I do get to experience some pretty neat stuff when I’m not diligently working at my office. And admittedly, I do drink wine on the clock … occasionally. One of my favorite things so far was getting to help a winery write their wine descriptions. It was a ‘right place at the right time’ moment that I don’t think I’ll ever forget. I stood at the tasting counter with the wine maker, the owner, the tasting room manager, myself and a fellow coworker with three or four different bottles of freshly bottled vintages in front of us. We were all poured the same type of wine and asked to sniff and taste away! We jotted down our different findings and chatted amongst ourselves on what we discovered. Oftentimes, you need to hear someone else’s opinion before you’re able to detect that particular scent or taste yourself. Sometimes we were deep on conversation trying to pinpoint exactly what it was that we were all tasting. I’m more of a dry red drinker now than I was when I did this a few years ago, but I found that I excelled in describing the dry reds. The theory was that it was because I wasn’t too busy enjoying it! But also, since I didn’t drink it all the time, I was able to recognize new tastes. Not all the fun things I get to do involve wine. As a member of our local chamber of commerce, we also sometimes get a sneak peek into new businesses. I was recently invited to go on one of the Seneca White Deer tours in the old Army Depot here in Romulus, NY. I’ll confess, I’ve seen white deer a million times driving by the depot, but was curious to see how the tours would run, and have always had some curiosity about the depot itself. The tour did not disappoint! Dennis Money, the President of Seneca White Deer, Inc. was our tour guide. He’s been working to preserve the white deer for close to 20 years, and with the help of Earl Martin, a local man who recently purchased the Depot, his hard work is paying off. Deer Haven Park is a sanctuary-like area of the Depot that the non-profit group has cordoned off to help with the preservation. As we traveled through the park, we were shown fields of corn and other edibles that have been planted for the deer to nibble on. We were warned that we may not see any deer, since they’re on their own agenda, but
SENECA WHITE DEER ON ARMY DEPOT GROUNDS we did spot a handful. The most interesting part of this tour was seeing the old remnants of the Depot itself. I left this tour feeling great pride in this organization for trying to preserve our local history, and honored that I was invited to experience it. The tours had only been opened for 10 days prior to that, and we were told they already had 1,000 paying customers! I urge you to check out their website and consider going on a tour. (www.senecawhitedeer.org) As you can tell, I really enjoyed myself there, but back to wine! Participating in our Vintner Vacation program is at the top of the list for job perks. Although I haven’t done the overnight portion, I’m still there for the personal vineyard tours and lessons, which are unique to each vineyard. The highlight of this program is the all-day boat tour with Water to Wine Tours. We board the boat on what has always been a beautiful early summer morning, and cruise across the lake to the other side. There we get to do a vertical tasting of Cabernet Sauvignon from Long Point. Four or five different vintages of the same wine are lined up, and we sample newest to oldest. Tasting and smelling the difference the years make in the barrel really help you appreciate the wine you’re drinking. I even took home a bottle of the oldest vintage! This is just a small look into the awesome non-office things I get to do on the job. I’ve been given private tours of winery production centers, had wine lunches with heads of many organizations and learned so much about wine that I can’t even put it into words! It certainly makes up for the days I’m stuck at my desk. Katherine Chase is the events coordinator for the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail, America’s First. Taste a bit of history. Wedding Planning: Be Prepared by Ronald Williams
7. Budget Check
After talking to vendors and looking at ceremony locations, brides should recheck the budget to make sure it’s working. Half of the budget should go straight to the reception, and the remaining money should be split between flowers, attire, entertainmentFeature Articles, and photos with a little left over for the random expenses that come up.
Wedding planning is risky business. Most people who are planning for that beautiful big day are doing it for the first time, and there are some tips every bride needs to know before plunging into the planning process. Certain decisions belong to the bride: the color scheme of the wedding, the cut of the bridesmaid’s dresses, the main course of the meal. Some decisions, however, are not as easy, and tips from experienced wedding planners can only help.
Wedding Planning Strategy
1. Take It Easy
The first step in planning a wedding is to take it one step at a time. Brides should sit down and make a schedule of everything that needs to be done to prepare for the wedding. The schedule should go in a logical order; the date comes before the vendors, the flowers come before the cake, and the place comes before the band. This schedule may have some adjustments along the way, but having a starting schedule can make all the difference when it comes to stress levels.
2. Think About Guests
Right after the schedule is written out, brides need to decide on the number of guests to invite to the wedding. The number of people invited should include any vendors that will be staying on the grounds, such as servers and the disk jockey. And remember, the guests are the most expensive part of the wedding. If a meal is $50 a person, a table of ten seats $500 worth of guests. When expenses are a problem, the guest list may need to be cut.
3. The Wedding Date
The date is the most important part of wedding planning, of course. It’s the day when everything comes together and the bride and groom have their moment. The day needs to be picked right off, and when choosing a day, brides need to look to the weather. A wedding in the heat of July with ten million mosquitoes around does not make for the perfect day. Knowing the weather and conditions beforehand can make all the difference.
BE ORGANIZED! Having everythiing all in one place makes magazine pictures for the florist and that other photographers number equally easy to find.

4. A Strong Budget
Weddings can become very costly very fast, and without a solid budget, brides can get a little carried away. Brides may also want to use a credit card with a good rewards program behind it for big purchases. The reward points can build up and be used for flight miles or shopping sprees on the honeymoon.
5. Vendor Hop
When looking for photographers, florists, bands, and caterers, people in the business know other people in the business. A photographer may now a great catering business with good deals, and the receptionist may know a good band for weddings. Letting one vendor lead you to another can end up in a well put together entourage.
6. Be Organized
Brides can grab a binder and pen and keep up with vendors, notes, and photos without any hassle. Having everything all in one place makes magazine pictures for the florist and that other photographer’s number equally easy to find.

Choosing a Photographer by Suzi Sanders
Your wedding day is going to be one of the most important days of your life. That is why it is important for you to give it the thought that it needs so that there are very few problems that occur during the day. It is not only important for you to decide some of the bigger items that will surround your wedding, it is also important for you to give a lot of attention to the details. That is why you should include choosing wedding photographers as one of the key elements for planning for a wedding. After all, they are going to be the one that preserves the wedding for many years to come, and if they are able to do so effectively, it will bring you quite a bit of enjoyment. You are going to have many different options available when it comes to the San Francisco wedding photography that you choose. That is why it is important for you to understand how to choose one wisely that will take care of your needs. Perhaps one of the most important things for you to consider are the type of wedding photos that they take. Each photographer is going to have their own style, and it is likely that you will be able to see that style by looking through their portfolio. In most cases, they will

have those photos posted online on their website so that you can browse them at your convenience. It is also important for you to interview the photographer to see if they are going to be a good fit for your wedding party. There are going to be issues as far as personalities are concerned which need to be considered. You should also check to see if they have done weddings in the past and what their philosophy is for staying out of the way, while at the same time making sure that they are in the forefront. Your photographer should be almost invisible, but they should always be on hand to be taking the pictures during the event. Are you also going to be hiring somebody to capture the wedding on video? If you are, it would be a good idea for you to discuss the possibilities with the photographer in advance of making your choice. It is more than likely that they have worked with a videographer at some time in the past and are happy with the work that they did. It is also a good idea if you can pair these two individuals if they are comfortable working with each other. Finally, make sure that you are looking into any references that are available from the photographer. It is not simply enough to ask for references, you must make sure that you follow through and call those individuals to see what type of insight was available. Most people are going to be willing to discuss their experience with the photographer with you. This can help you to see the type of experience that you can expectScience Articles, regardless of whether it is good or bad.

Business of Interest
by JANET LA FRANCE
New York Bride In North Syracuse, there’s a small bridal shop called New York Bride. It’s a brick building with lovely arched windows and ample parking in the back. I thought, “It’s quaint.” However, I was truly impressed the minute I entered the shop. In side the main entrance, you immediately see a majestic display with the featured gown. While it changes frequently, this gown looked like it just came off Audrey Hepburn. An elegant gown with three quarter length sleeves, chiffon skirt and a lace beaded top with a gentle scoop neckline. I walked through the store and was amazed at the large collection of bridal and attendant dresses. After taking care of some urgent business, owner Valerie Walczak greeted me with a big smile. While NY Bride has been in business for 20 years, Valerie has owned it for only two and a half years. When I asked how she came to buy the business, she told me that she used be one of the Saturday staff. “I had a fulltime job, but wanted to get out of the house during the winter. So, when the opportunity to buy the business came up, I just closed my eyes and jumped.” Her leap of faith paid off big time! Because many people become engaged over the Christmas holiday, the bridal business kicks into high gear right after New Year’s. Valerie considers herself very lucky, “The shop was already well-established, and it had a good reputation so I wasn’t going to change anything right away. It was a relatively smooth transition, and I was fortunate that the entire staff decided to
stay with me.” There are 17 employees and what proves it’s a great place to work is exemplified by the multiple generations working there. “We have a mother/ daughter team and then we have a mother/daughter/granddaughter team.” Valerie considers her staff to be her family and the unity is very evident. The décor is stunning and the only thing better is the vast and diverse collection of dresses. When I asked what some of the new trends are, Valerie told me about the array of colors that brides are selecting, “Brides are taking more chances with color. Ivory, blush and champagne are still the front runners, but gold and pink are gaining in popularity. The other trend that’s coming is long sleeves, and illusion necklines and backs.” The knowledge required to be good in this business is huge! Everyone who works there needs to know the attributes of each designer they carry (and there are six), to body types, and keeping the bride on track. The no pressure approach to selling a gown keeps the bride and her party relaxed. “One thing The Featured gown that greets customers as we try to ask them is if soon as they enter they’re willing to try on something other than

5 Important Wedding Preparation Matters You Need To Discuss With Your Partner Preparing for your wedding is the hardest part after your fancy engagement. All you need is to confer with your spouse to be on some important details.
The Venue Must be large enough for your guest list if you have gone with invitees first. In the heart of the city, the vital factor for your guests would be room for parking. Lodging and food facilities also need to be reserved if you have decided on a destination wedding.

One Landmark Place Syracuse NY
The Guest List Inviting the family is obvious enough and you must invite all your close friends. Conduct this discussion with your partner in earnest, and the common limiting factors can be budget or location if you finalize those first. Relationship matters so invite close people only. Destination weddings are a little expensive with a large guest list but if you can plan it right, it can turn out to be a beautiful wedding on a small budget. Remember not to disregard your partner’s decisions either as you’ll be happy happily married at the end of this.

The Luxuries Dresses and bridal shopping is technically the most exciting part of the planning stages and you can discuss with your spouse to be on price caps, décor services, the photographer, and the band. You don’t really have to discuss it but might as well since you want things to be perfect. Small intimate weddings can save plenty on this category.
Honeymoon
Be sure the venue has plenty of parking for the invitees and guests.

How To Manage Wedding Stress Keep Calm and Marry On!
When you are knee-deep in wedding planning stress, it’s easy to resort to unhealthy behaviors, like emotional overeating or guzzling a bottle of wine. The trouble is, these things will leave you feeling lousy and probably more stressed than before you started! At BestWeddingNJ.com, we offer up healthy tips for Managing Wedding Stress below:
Tips For Managing Wedding Stress Change Your Toxic Thought Patterns
Attitudes such as, “I must be competent in every situation,” are unrealistic. Sometimes brides & grooms do not have conscious thoughts like this, but upon examination of stressful behavior and attitude, find they are holding themselves to a standard of absolute perfection. If these standards are not met, they set themselves for failure and they can often feel like failures.
Practice Self-Care Techniques
While wedding planning, accept and meet your physical and emotional needs for exercise, rest, good nutrition and recreation. Nurture and nourish your body as well as your mind. Know your own physical limits and requirements and make them a priority. Be realistic on how to accomplish your wedding planning goals. ThePierCNY.com
THE PIER
Develop a Sense of Self-Worth
There are two elements of our self-worth: an unconditional “no matter what” element, and a conditional “I must prove my self-worth by my accomplishments and approval of others or your own high ideals for your wedding. Wanting others to approve of you is not unhealthy however; often too much emphasis is placed on this. Develop a sense of self-worth that is not primarily dependent upon the success of your wedding achievements, or the opinions of others.
Balance Your Inner Critics’ Voices
A healthy sense of self-worth helps balance inner critical voices. When their is an internal balance between self-worth and criticism, one often regards outside disapproval as a learning opportunity and a healthy challenge, despite unpleasantness. One does not need to take a defensive posture, which is characterized by denying and attacking. Reduce your wedding stress and try on accepting imperfection, those so-called “failures,” and mistakes in yourself and others without excessive anxiety.
Welcome Your Feelings - Good Bad and Otherwise
Sometimes, the best couples can do with unpleasant feelings is to acknowledge them and accept them. Many times people deny their feelings, criticize themselves for feeling a certain way, and become defensive. This also makes it difficult to accept and knowledge the feelings of others. Unpleasant feelings are normal and unavoidable, and are exacerbated when not allowed to be exposed. Try on coping better with wedding stress by taking a deep breath, and then coping with the so-called, “bad” feelings.

What to Know Before Hiring a Wedding Photographer
•
TABLE HOPPING
Smile! You are about to choose a professional wedding photographer to capture your special wedding day moments. This is exactly why you will want to establish the right relationship with a professional photographer. Couples are wise to take an active role in planning their wedding pictures. Here are some strategies to assist you in creating the wedding photos of your dreams!
Get to Know Your Wedding Photographer It is important to have a good rapport with your wedding photographer. This way you can feel totally comfortable when posing for your wedding pictures. Many larger wedding photography studios employ a number of photographers on their staff. If you choose a large company, you may not get to meet your photographer until your actual wedding day. To avoid this from happening, you may want to consider a smaller company or make it a point to meet and interview the photographer that will be handling your wedding. Ask if the photographer if he or she is the only photographer in their company. Make sure that you get in writing that the NJ photographer you choose guarantees that he or she will be the one showing up to shoot your wedding pictures. Another important factor is to view wedding photos taken by the photographer that will be assigned to your wedding. A NJ wedding photography studio may show you their best work; however it might not be the photos of the NJ wedding photographer assigned to your wedding! Get to know your photographer and be sure to discuss what special types of wedding pictures you can have for your big day.
Create a Wedding Photo Wish List
To make sure your wedding photographer captures all of your ultimate wedding moments, create a wedding photo wish list. Although the first dance and the cutting of the cake are standard wedding photos, you may have special shots that you wish to have your wedding photographer take during your wedding. continued on pg 31

Creating An Effective Wedding Planning Checklist by Morgan Hamilton
Are you planning to get married soon? If you are, then you are probably making initial plans to make your wedding special and memorable. If you want to make sure that you will get everything right, using a wedding planning checklist will help ensure that nothing will go wrong in your wedding. What do you need to write on a wedding planning checklist? Well, there are a lot of things that you need to cover. Primarily you start with the date of your wedding. This should be written on the top of the wedding planning checklist. The next thing you need to think about is the location and the time of your marriage. Discuss these issues with your partner until you can agree on an ideal date and setting. This way you can take care of the food, lodging and location all in one go. With weddings, its always better to have everything planned out in advance. Careful and

advance planning is the key to having a wonderful wedding that runs smoothly. When my wife and I planned our wedding, we booked the hotel room over a year in advance. Our special date was a private ceremony and we agreed to have the wedding and honeymoon all in one whack. The detailed wedding planning checklist we used made our wedding run smoothly. Other things that you should write on your wedding planning checklist should include your partners name, the exact location of the ceremony, the marriage license, possible blood testing, the wedding cake, the bouquet, and of course the rings. These are all vital elements of a memorable wedding ceremony. On the wholeHealth Fitness Articles, a wedding checklist should include a lot of wedding essentials. It only takes one overlooked detail to ruin your wedding. Using a detailed wedding planning checklist to plan in advance is a sensible method that can ensure that your special date will be unforgettable.

What to Know Before Hiring a Wedding Photographer continued from pg 29 Make a list of what you want and share your creative ideas with your photographer. In this way, your photographer can plan in advance to include these shots. Your wedding is unique so think outside the box. Look through magazines for ideas. You may want to take wedding pictures of you wedding gown on the hanger and the groom’s tuxedo next to his shoes. Include in your list the wedding photo poses you desire before and during your ceremony, after the ceremony, and during the reception. Find out about the unique photo touches and special effects that can be done. Consider some black and white wedding pictures, too. In addition, make sure to request great candid shots that will remind you of the energy of the day!
Let Your Photographer Snap the Memories
After months of careful planning, your wedding is over in a snap! That is why you want to be free to create memories and trust your experienced photographer to capture them. Once you feel confident in hiring a
professional wedding photographer, allow him or her to do their job. Schedule enough time before and after the ceremony so that your photographer can do his or her magic. You do not want to end up taking rushed photos that might produce undesirable finished wedding pictures. Also, encourage your guests to take their own photos. Guests take those candid shots of fun and wacky moments that your wedding photographer may be too busy to take. Just make sure that your guests stay out of the photographer’s way. Give your photographer the space to take fabulous wedding pictures. Create the wedding experience you deserve! Remember, your job is to relax, have fun and enjoy your wedding day. Then your photos will reflect your joy! Diane Cuesta Owner of BestWeddingNJ.com

A wedding is a beautiful public declaration of love and commitment between two people that is meant to be shared with the friends and family closest to the couple. It’s a day of joy, special moments, and memories to last a lifetime. Many times, the planning and execution of the day is just as important as the day itself. It’s important to many couples to have a wedding that is as unique as they are with special touches that guests will remember and talk about for many years to come. The vows, the church, the dress, the food, the photos, the reception venue, the entertainment, the speeches, the celebration – all important, and so are the beverage choices you serve to your guests, whether it be a cash bar, open bar, the drink for the toast, or a combination of all of the above. Spoken from a true “always a bridesmaid, never a bride” perspective, beer and wine are seemingly always the most prevalent alcoholic beverages served at weddings far and wide, with champagne being the celebratory toast choice. –And while cost is always a factor, (and an important one at that), the beverages you choose at your wedding reception can highlight yourselves as a couple, be chosen to complement the dishes and dessert served at your wedding, and make for a unique and pleasant surprise for your guests to enjoy … In addition to your college roommate making a complete

THE PUNISHER continued from pg 12
The constant conflict raging inside of Frank makes him a fascinating, and often times frustrating, character.

Unsettlingly realistic and shockingly savage, it is the type of violence that is typically found in war movies and Tarantino flicks. These moments are relentless in their depravity, but they are not the focal point of the production. There will certainly be those who won’t be able to look past it, but ultimately, THE PUNISHER is about Castle’s story, not his rising body count. The constant conflict raging inside of Frank makes him a fascinating, and often times frustrating, character. In the comic books, he is a beloved, quintessential anti-hero, one that audiences failed to identify with in three previous cinematic attempts. Now that Bernthal has taken the reins, this is no longer the case. The actor, who was excellent in his short stint on THE WALKING DEAD, and has provided attention-grabbing supporting turns in FURY, THE WOLF OF WALL
With a spectacular 13 episode season currently streaming on Netflix, this brutal drama consistently finds a way to excite and entertain. STREET, and BABY DRIVER, was the perfect choice to play Castle. Fatally flawed, and endlessly tortured, he is a character that is difficult to love, yet impossible to hate. His rage-fueled resiliency is wholly believable, and despite the depravity he unleashes on a regular basis, he is somehow enduring. This makes him one of the more interesting protagonists in the Marvel canon, which is a credit to the writers of the series as much as it is to Bernthal. This group includes talented CNY native Angela LaManna, who not only served as the story editor for the entire 13 episode run, but also penned one of the most engaging and important installments of the series, FRONT TOWARD ENEMY. It’s wonderful to see any Central New Yorker thrive in the world of entertainment, but particularly rewarding when one of our own is directly involved in the creation of such a high profile project. With the recent announcement that THE PUNISHER has been renewed for a second season, there is every hope that Ms. LaManna, and this newfound franchise, will continue to thrive. DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, CORPORATE TAX RATE: 90%
WHY? IT’S NOT COMMUNISM, IT’S RESPONSIBLE ECONOMICS.
The Great Undoing continued from pg 11
unchecked power. Their decisions cemented Campaign Finance law with Citizens United and then further cemented these American obscenities by striking down limits on Campaign Contributions. As three separate issues they have to be struck down separately. Each would leave the others, and each is written in ways to accomplish the same thing for the 1%. Yes, the wealthy are very smart. Which is why we have so little hope. The Supreme Court does not answer to the people. They agreed that America’s 1% should have the ability to manipulate government as they please. The people’s voice is drowned. Nothing has done more to harm the American way than the thinking of 5 of these nine politically chosen and appointed arbiter’s. (I might add that a study of both Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt would reveal the severe dangers of power sucking trusts and monopolies that resulted in today’s insidious wealth and “too big to fail” and their devastating corollary to the intent of a great land) “Constitutional interpretation” as a mission orientation for the Supreme Court is a great misnomer in American Government. The Constitution is irrelevant. Decisions are politically biased by appointment and that bias is applied to interpretations. Like the Bible, the Constitution is interpreted the way it is seen by the individual. It is not defined to adhere intent and is obsolete. Leaving an unregulated land defined by the rich. The intention of each Court appointment is to insure interpretation in keeping with the party of the appointing President. When a new President comes into play the people are stuck with this enormous ideological power they left behind. Power is so corrupted that even remedy would be severely biased and tarnished. Yet an effort is all we have. “The answers lie in massive Campaign Finance reform —which causes the finest that humans can be as bribery and threat are infinitely diminished— (key words “followed by” in an effort toward integrity) a Constitutional Convention for the 21st Century, and a move toward Patriotic leadership where sacrifice in keeping with the needs of the people is viewed as an honor.” With unimpeachable sadness, in truth, the foregoing 51 words are viewed more as rhetorical blather than words of substance, even though the future and fate of mankind is so simply and clearly embraced and defined. 51 words that alter the course from doom.

and is considered to be enjoyable across the spectrum is Blue Moon Brewing Company’s Belgian White (5.9%ABV), out of Denver, CO. It is light, smooth, medium-bodied and in from multiple wedding websites concludes that one drink per adult, per reception hour true fashion, has notes of both orange and coriander. Some prefer it with an additional should be sufficient and that if you’re having a full bar at said wedding reception, the slice of orange added as well. perfect booze ratio is 1/3 beer, 1/3 wine, and 1/3 liquor – along with champagne for your Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, NY, which is arguably King of the American speeches and toasts. If we’re talking about beer, (and we should be, since this is, after Belgian-style beers, offers a variety of Belgian-style wheat beers that include Game of all, a column called “Brew Time”), there’s always the option of cans, bottles, or kegs from Thrones —Seven Kingdoms (6.9% ABV Belgian IPA), Game of Thrones— Winter is Here which to serve your guests. A traditional Half Barrel Keg (what you see in the bars) holds (8.3% ABV Witbier), and Witte (5.2% ABV Witbier), among many others. Bonus, if you’re approximately 165, 12oz beers and is usually the most cost-efficient choice. If your guest into a Game of Thrones theme for your wedding, Ommegang has ALL the beers to list doesn’t include many beer drinkers, there are 4 other keg options available. The Slim accompany it. (& p.s. I totally want an Quarter Keg and Quarter Barrel Keg both pour approximately 82, 12oz beers, the Sixth invite to THAT wedding! … unless of Barrel Keg holds approximately 55, 12oz beers, and the Cornelius Keg is the smallest at course, it’s going to be a rendition of the approximately 53, 12oz beers. The smaller kegs might also be a good option if you elect Red Wedding, then nevermind.) to serve up a few different craft brews since palates of your guests will vary. Cans and A rather enjoyable German/Bavarian bottles can be purchased by the case, and if you’re unsure about a how much beer might Hefeweizen that I have had the pleasure be leftover, this might be a better option. You can always stow away cans and bottles, of sampling, was at Yazoo Brewing use the extra at a different event, or give it away at the end of the night. Not as easy with Company in Nashville, TN. At 5% ABV, a keg or two. it has fruity, banana notes, and was completely and totally refreshing with a slightly tart finish. And, lastly, just outside of Burlington, VT, Fiddlehead Brewing Company, known for their IPAs, has brewed a wheat IPA —Sorry for Wheat? (8.2% ABV)— a hazy, soft, very floral brew with a dry finish. It’s kind of a combination between a traditional wheat beer and a traditional New England-style BLUE MOON: One of the most IPA, and very, VERY, tasty. You’ll have to popular American Wheat Beer/Hetravel to obtain both these brews, or have feweizen that is readily available a destination-style wedding! India Pale Ale (IPA) – IPAs have a vast

CHOICES: It helps to know who your audience is and what they like..
The Choices: It helps to know who your audience is and what they like; i.e. Your guests. There will always be that uncle who insists that Bud Light is the best beer EVER and that’s the only thing he’ll drink. You’ll also have your stereotypical female guest (who’s also probably your brother’s new girlfriend) who insists upon a Michelob Ultra. And hey, that’s okay, it’s a wedding, you’re going to be hosting all types of folks with all kinds of tastes —poor or not— and many times, a few different choices are going to be what you include on the menu. But if you’re looking for something different, or you’re a craft beer aficionado, or maybe you’re not, but you enjoy craft beer and sharing it with others, there are many different options to choose from that are perfect for a wedding setting. Wheat Beer – This selection of beer is refreshing, light-bodied and meant for warm weather and quenching your thirst. Perfect when you consider the season of summer/ spring/early fall, and all the booty-shaking, Electric Sliding, and YMCA-ing your guests will be doing. In addition, you might even be able to get that Bud Light swigging uncle to try something that isn’t going to shock his taste buds into retreat-mode. Belgian-style Witbier wheat beers in particular are light with notes of citrus and coriander. Germanstyle wheat beers, known as Weissbeirs or Hefeweizens, are light, sweet, with hints of spice or fruit. The American version is known as a Hefeweizen (still a German term) or simply a wheat beer, and these are usually golden in color, unfiltered (cloudy-appearing), light, and lemony. Likely the most popular American Wheat Beer/Hefeweizen that is readily available

array of different notes, bitterness, and finishes. They range from grassy and earthy to floral and juicy to piney and nutty. What one connoisseur of craft beer savors in an IPA, another connoisseur might not. For purposes of pleasing a crowd, these popular and enjoyable (by most all, even your snobby craft-beer friends) IPAs are mild to moderate in bitterness and hops. Sierra Nevada Brewing Company’s Pale Ale (5.6% ABV) out of Chico, CA, is simple in name, and simply a well-rounded IPA that is a solid choice for a wedding reception. A brew that you can find nearly anywhere and everywhere, it pairs well with everything from cheese during cocktail hour, to pulled-pork for an outdoor summer wedding in the country, to prime rib at your black-tie evening reception. Smooth with a balanced bitterness, this is brewed primarily with Cascade hops that give it the slightly spicy and citrus/floral notes that are present throughout. Slo Mo’ IPA (6.5% ABV) by Empire Brewing Company in Syracuse, NY, is another good choice for a crowd pleaser. Brewed with Falconer’s Flight and Mosaic hops, it is juicy, juicy, juicy – which is another way of saying it’s fantastically citrusy with notes of grapefruit and so very refreshing. As the name implies, this is a perfect brew for a warm spring or summer day while “slo”ing down and enjoying the bliss and excitement surrounding your wedding day. It also happens to be a good choice if you’re into “keeping it local.” Lambic – This is a unique choice that can, in fact, be an alternative to using champagne for your toasts! It is a beer that is very close to its champagne counterpart with characteristics of being carbonated, tart, and dry on the finish. The brews are made with a mash of unmalted wheat and aged hops that ferment spontaneously in wooden barrels. Many are also made with fruit or fruit juice, which adds a whole second level of complexity and subtle sweetness. Popular and easy to obtain, Lindemans Framboise Lambic Beer (2.5% ABV) from Belgium, is a small microbrewery that has been specifically making Lambic beer for 6 generations, beginning in 1822. This brew is dark pink in color, bubbly, much in the same way as champagne, and has a rich raspberry flavor with bit of tartness. A total treat, which your wedding guests will no doubt find to be a fun little unexpected twist on the traditional champagne wedding toast. Or this will make a lovely accompaniment to your wedding cake and desserts – especially pairing with anything chocolate! The Finishing Touches: The beer theme doesn’t just have to be relegated to your open bar. With everything that Pinterest, Etsy, and Instagram has to offer and scroll through these days, your entire wedding can have craft beer involvement! From having your wedding reception at a brewery, to incorporating hops blossoms into your bouquets and boutonnieres, to having your caterers cook with beer in the courses served, to giving personalized beer koozies (or “stubbies” as they call them in Australia – oh the things you find when you do research for your Brew Time articles) as wedding favors, there’s all this and so much more! Of course, these ideas and offerings are only a few options when it comes to what beer to serve at your wedding. I have really only scratched the surface of all of the different types of craft brews available to you and your big day. There are always choices to go with themed weddings or something specific to the couple being married. – Fall weddings can offer a pumpkin beer of choice, or if the happy couple are coffee-lovers, a coffee stout or porter might be a one-of-a-kind addition to your bar offering. Or perhaps there was a special vacation or you share a unique bond or perhaps you visited a specific brewery along the dating and engagement road to marriage. And there’s the opportunity to serve a beer or include something beer-related that highlights that special time in your lives The beverages you choose at your that you both wish to share with everyone wedding can highlight yourselves at the wedding. The possibilities are as a couple endless! Cheers to that!

Do You Have a Food Addiction continued from pg 17
of dealing with your emotions. Try doing something that offers comfort in a non-food way such as taking a bath, going to the gym, reading a book, or meeting a friend for coffee.
5. Seek Professional Advice
Beating a food addiction isn’t something that happens overnight. It often involves a registered dietitian or licensed therapist that specializes in the area of disordered eating. These professionals will help a person break the cycle of compulsive overeating by implementing appropriate strategies, providing accountability, and giving sound advice. Another tip to get away from seeking comfort in food is to “clean up your life.” Resolve issues. Get rid of friendships that are toxic. Get rid of clothes that you don’t like. Apologize to someone. Quit your job and find something that makes you happy. End a relationship if it’s not serving your highest good. Stop wasting so much time _______ (fill in the blank). The happier you become the more gratitude you practice, the more true comfort you engage in, and the less you will rely on food to make yourself feel good.
In Conclusion:
When you change your relationship with food you change the way you look at it. Interestingly, you will find that when you surround yourself with things that give you true satisfaction and comfort you will not seek comfort in food. Good luck to you!

New York Bride continued from pg 25
dresses are prominently displayed to make any size customer happy with their purchase and experience. “We take our time because if a bride buys a gown she doesn’t love just to expedite the process, then we haven’t done our job. We don’t care how much they spend, we only want them to be confident and happy with the dress they purchase,” stated Valerie. One of the biggest challenges for the bridal industry is those who wait until the last minute to buy their dress. New York Bride staff recommend that you start looking for your dress when you get engaged. Some dresses take six months to obtain from the manufacturer especially if it’s a custom order. You should then allow 6-8 weeks for alterations. This time is necessary because these dresses will probably be the most expensive piece of clothing you’ll ever buy. Dresses range from $ 650 to $4,000, and the average price is $1,500. Then, you add the cost of the accessories: veils, head pieces, jewelry and undergarments. Unlike the big box stores, New York Bride does not carry shoes or purses. They also do not carry mother-of-the-bride dresses. “We focus strictly on the bride and her attendants. This way, there’s less confusion and there are plenty of places who carry that kind of apparel,” said Valerie. The personal attention given to the bride and her party is the primary focus of every employee. I asked if they had come across any Bridezillas. Valerie just smiled and said, “No. That’s just for TV. Most brides are excited and have a lot of fun trying on all the different styles.” However, some of the people who come with the bride can be difficult because they want to tell her what she “should” choose. To help the bride make the decision, Valerie and the staff recommend they take pictures of all the dresses they try on. This way, they can review them when then have time alone and it removes the pressure of other opinions. This time of year is quiet so they prepare for the rush that occurs in January. They organize the stock area because they also offer free storage until your wedding day. It’s these personal services that keep the business going. Most of their new customers are referrals from former customers. “It’s a relationship we build carefully, and it lasts,” said Valerie. Proof of their success is shown by the green wall – here they display the thank you cards and wedding pictures that happy customers send after the big day. If you are a bride to be, then you need to visit New York Bride and get the personal attention that will make your wedding day perfect because you will have a dress that’s perfectly you!

This Month’s RECIPE
LAMB CHOPS BRAISED IN POMEGRANATE Recipe from allrecipes.com
INGREDIENTS
3 pounds lamb shoulder blade chops salt and freshly ground pepper to taste 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 onion, sliced 1 pinch salt 4 cloves garlic, sliced 2 cups pomegranate juice 1/3 cup aged balsamic vinegar 1/4 teaspoon dried rosemary 8 fresh mint leaves 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes 1 tablespoon honey, or more to taste salt and ground black pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
New York Bride caters to the plus size customer and has the biggest onsite selection.
•
2 tablespoons pomegranate seeds 1 tablespoon sliced fresh mint leaves 1 tablespoon pumpkin seeds
1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Generously season lamb chops with salt and black pepper. 2. Heat vegetable oil in a Dutch oven over high heat. Place lamb chops in Dutch oven and cook until browned on all sides, about 8 minutes. Transfer lamb to a plate and reduce heat to medium. 3. Stir onion and a pinch of salt into the Dutch oven; cook until onions are slightly golden, about 3 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds. 4. Pour pomegranate juice into the Dutch oven and scrape any browned bits off of the bottom of the pot. Pour in balsamic vinegar, increase heat to high, and bring to a boil. 5. Stir rosemary, mint leaves, and red pepper flakes into pomegranate juice mixture. Continue to boil until liquid is reduced by half, about 10 minutes. Return lamb and any accumulated juices to Dutch oven, spoon pomegranate mixture over lamb, and cover. 6. Cook in the preheated oven until meat is fork tender, about 2 hours. Transfer lamb to a plate and set Dutch oven on the stovetop over high heat. Bring pomegranate mixture to a boil; cook, skimming any fat that accumulates, until liquid is reduced by 1/3, about 5 minutes. 7. Stir in honey and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Return lamb to the Dutch oven; stir to combine. Garnish with pomegranate seeds, sliced mint leaves, and pumpkin seeds.
