KWAZULU-NATAL GOVERNMENT
OFFICE OF THE PREMIER The Office of the Premier is offering bursaries to students who are residents of KwaZulu-Natal and interested in pursuing a tertiary qualification in all fields of study. They must be already admitted/ registered at any institution in the Province, but not private institutions. Students must be from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and from vulnerable groups e.g. child headed households, orphaned, disabled, grandparents headed households and must be earning R60 000 per annum or below for single parent/guardian or R120 000.00 per annum for both parents combined. ALL APPLICANTS ARE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS: • Application letter clearly indicating a proposed field of study and motivate as to why you should be offered financial assistance with contact details i.e. cell phone number • Certified copies of Identity Document (ID) – including your parents ID and or your Guardian • Certified copy of your Matric Certificate and other qualifications (where applicable) • Proof of income of your parents/guardian • Certified copy of death certificate, if parents are deceased • Proof of registration/acceptance letter from the institution of your choice or CAO • Academic record from the tertiary institution • Signed copy of an affidavit by both parents if they are unemployed • Affidavit indicating that the applicant is unemployed. It is the responsibility of the student to seek admission with tertiary institutions and accommodation within University residences. Successful applicants will enter into a contract with the number of years equivalent to the duration of their period of study. The bursary is for full time study only and covers tuition fees, accommodation, meals where necessary, and prescribed textbooks. KZN PROVINCIAL TREASURY The purpose of granting bursaries or financial assistance by the Department of KZN Provincial Treasury is to afford the students from disadvantaged background who are currently in Grade 12 and those who are in possession of a Matriculation Certificate (2011) the opportunity to further their studies in recognized tertiary institutions for the following qualifications: • Bachelors Degree majoring with Economics/Accounting • National Certificate in Financial Management (FET’s) • ND: in Cost and Management Accounting or in Accounting It is the intention of the Department to issue bursaries to Municipal Districts that are more imporverished and rural within the Province. The targeted Municipal District is Zululand Municipal District (eDumbe, uPhongolo, Abaqulusi, Nongoma, Ulundi and Zululand local Municipalities). Application forms are obtainable from the relevant Municipal District Offices, The Department invites applications from students who wish to commence studies in the forthcoming academic year (2013). The following criteria will apply for awarding bursaries: • Excellent academic achievements/results • Verifiable proof that an applicant cannot afford the cost of the studies due to limited financial resources • Previously disadvantaged person in line with the Department Employment Equity (EE) targets and students with disabilities • Must reside within the targeted Districts. Responsibilities of successful applicants: Successful applicants will be required to bind themselves contractually to serve the Department after completion of studies for a period of years the bursary was granted.
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH The Department of Health is the following fields of study: • Medicine • Dentistry • Speech Therapy • Dietetics • Dental Therapy • Orthotics & Prosthetics

Directions to applicants: Applicants must be from KwaZulu-Natal and apply to the residential specific district. Meet the training needs of the District where they reside. List of district needs are available in the departmental application form. All successful candidates will be required to sign a year for work back agreement to serve district. Please Note: Bursary application forms can be collected from the Human Resource Office at all Government Hospitals, Clinics or CHC’s. DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS AND RECREATION The Purpose of the Bursary Scheme is retention and development of sporting talent in the Province • Recognition and further development of individuals who have contributed towards the upliftment of sport in communities • Youth empowerment through formal capacity building programmes • Addressing the scarce skills in the Province • Improving the diversity and employment equity workforce profile of the Province • Alleviate poverty through capacity building to facilitate employment. Application criteria: Learners, in Grade 10 and above, involved in a priority sporting code with representation at provincial level as a minimum, Youth (age 18-35) who have achieved at provincial and national representation, Youth with two years involvement in community structures and upliftment of organized sport and recreation. Reference to be obtained from the local councilor, municipal sports officers or local sport federation.
