"HE PLAYS WITH remarkable intelli gence," the coach continued. "He's one of the most objective players I've ever had. He puts things in logical sequence. He has eve rything mapped out. "He knows what his goals are, and I'm confident he can achieve them." One of his goals is to be the Huskies' lead guard next season. "He has a chance of playing that position," Harshman said. "He might not have some of the physical skills required, but he has the mental capacity to compen sate for some of the things he lacks physical ly. "I know he will work at it this summer," Harshman continued. "He feels he can do it." q . Matzen, in addition to being an All-Stater )I in basketball at Lincoln, was also some 1! shakes last spring as a baseball player. But l he is bypassing baseball to work on his . > basketball. "He made that decision about a month ago," Harshman said. "He made it on his r own. We didn't ask him not to play baseball. p It surprised me when he told me what he was going to do."

THE 6-4 MATZEN played basically as a forward in high school, and he had a period 9f adjustment as a guard at Washington. He made the transition. · Matzen did not play as much as he would have liked. Nobody ever does unless he's in each game for 40 minutes, but the former :Abe was No. 6 on the team in minutes played. : He did start on occasion and had a game high production of 21 points in 19 minutes l>f action during the Huskies' 76-66 victory 'over Utah State. He was also the team's free throw percentage leader among those who kot in more than a minimum amount of J>laying time with an .899 mark on 32 of 36. Matzen did make some important contri butions to the Huskies, and it is nice he was appreciated. '
